NES baseball is an awesome game. I've had TONS of fun playing that with friends.
@CGQuarterly8 жыл бұрын
+Enchurito You certainly have the right to your opinion, but back in the day it was universally reviled. Have you tried any other Baseball games on the NES? Baseball Stars, Baseball Stars II, RBI Baseball 2, Bases Loaded, Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball, Baseball Simulator 1.000, Bad News Baseball, Tecmo Baseball. All better than the original "Baseball". Heck, I still think that Baseball Stars II is one of the best baseball games ever made.

@SubieLeerdam8 ай бұрын
That’s the only right way IF you can open up a cart. I do the same, but also using isopropyl after the eraser. Just to make sure nu eraser residue is left. I had it even done twice on several carts, if they were extremely dirty. But I ALWAYS got my carts to work with that combined method of cleaning. The outcome is an extremely shiny 72 pin pcb😎👍🏻

Heheh, no need to blow in it yet, but it's still brand new. Much like a cast iron skillet, the contacts have to slowly build up some seasoning before they'll need to be blown on. If you ever get tired of blowing into your games, I actually wrote an article a few years ago explaining how to clean your carts, thus eliminating the need to blow into them. I can't post links in comments because KZbin won't let me, but it's in the "features" section of the CGQ website.

"This is just using another vehicle to translate the game data to your Nintendo" That's not exactly true. NES cartridges used different mappers which is a chip that, roughly speaking, helps NES use more data in a single level that can be stored in its limited RAM. Every game , aside from the most primitive ones, used this technology to help load more sprites, level details etc into the scene. And different game developers used different mappers. The cartridge that is playing the ROM actually *emulates* this mapper for each ROM. And there's a lot of trickery in that regard, especially if you want to play exotic games that weren't licensed by Nintendo from this cartridge. Trickery for the cartridge creator, of course, who has to support every mapper ever created (which is very tough). If you are interested, there's this other guy who creates Famicom cartridges that are supposed to work not only on the original Famicom but also on all the clones, the old and the new, and he tries to support all the mappers he can (but he says it's very hard). His cartridges are based on 256 Mb internal memory that is filled with the games of your choosing from his site. What's awesome about that though is that it supports saves for every game if you wish so, and it doesn't require battery in the cartridge to be functional!

Blowing into carts is not a good idea as the air you breath actually corrodes the metal contacts over time.. better and more efficient way is to use Q-tips and some alcohol based cleaner. Use the Q-tip in upward motion and clean the contacts 1 by 1. Mind you that the moisture that occurs when you blow into a cartridge has some type of immediate effect on the electrical connection that occurs. But it's temporary and is bound to rust the contacts over time!

@CGQuarterly8 жыл бұрын
+voits81 Hey thanks! Unfortunately, ROMs are a shady business so pretty much any website that you go to is going to reflect that. My advice would be to just download a complete ROM set from a torrent site (like the one with the pirate ship for a logo).
@videogameobsession7 жыл бұрын
Hey bud. Great job with this video. I've watched it a couple of times before deciding to buy one of these during the past Black Friday sale on his site I just started messing around with the cart. I downloaded a torrent which was out together specifically for the N8, with some nice organization and patches. It seemed much more complete than the collection of roms I've been collecting since around 1992. The only thing I wish this had was a remote reset. I have a back injury which makes it hard to get around so that, along with my 8Bitdo wireless controllers would be great. I don't think Krikzz has ruled it out, but it's probably not likely. It seems like he should because that's the only reason someone might pickup a PowerPAK over the N8... At least IMO. The one weird issue I am having with mine is when trying to play some of the VS. Arcade games. I have the games which are patched for it, which I believe patches the palette and adds dip switches, and a way to press start, but when I try them on the N8 the colors are so purple, green, and blue, and on many, I am unable to start the game. Have you tried any of have any incite on this? Thanks!
@CGQuarterly7 жыл бұрын
I agree, remote reset would be nice. The Mega Everdrive has it in the form of an in-game menu that you can call up with a button combo, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a future update of the N8. I have not tried any of the vs. games, but most of them had unique PPUs with slightly different color palettes, so I'm not too surprised that some of the colors are a bit off. I remember when I originally modded my NES for RGB video back before there was a kit for it, I got a vs. PPU, and I had to be careful which one I got because the color palette of my NES would be messed up if I used the wrong ones(s). As far as some of the games not loading, I can't be of any help because as I said, I've never tried any of them. BTW, if anyone else happens to read this post, this guy (videogameobsession) has an awesome website. Many of the game box and magazine cover scans that I use on my show come from him. He also has an amazing game collection. Check him out at videogameobsession.com.
@videogameobsession7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that... I really appreciate it! I'm just glad you found my scans and photos to be up to you level of quality. You definitely have some of the best videos to be found on our awesome hobby. Very high production values here! You really deserve more subscribers. I always spread the news of your new videos on my Facebook Page as well as on some other similar FB Groups and forums. Hopefully it won't be long before you get one of those shiny metal KZbin Play buttons to hang on your wall. Oh, and I think I finally have working patched VS games now. The ones I originally had were patched long ago before Krikzz added more working mappers. So I think it may have been screwing something up. The roms I have now are supposed to be fully corrected for both palette and the button remapping. If you ever want the link to them just let me know.

I need to figure out hardware to add ever drivers for Turbo graphx16, NES, SNES, 64, Sega, intelivision (using XBOX 360 ATM), and anyother great systems out there. +Eric Goempel If you have no interest in using original hardware or original game cartridges, why not either just build or buy a small form-factor emulation PC, or just soft-mod a Wii or OG Xbox? I never use them, but I have both and they work great. You can pick up a Wii for less than $100 and soft-modding it takes 2 minutes, and the "Classic Controller" works great.

@CGQuarterly10 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the best way to play NES games at the correct speed in a PAL region would be to buy an RGB-modded NTSC NES. You can then either play it with an RGB-capable display (which I understand is pretty common over there), or use an RGB to PAL video encoder. You can't just overclock or speed-adjust a PAL NES to get the games to run at the proper speed.

Mr.PenguinPants No, you absolutely do not need the USB port. that's awesome I was hoping thats what you meant. I'm for sure going to get all of these everdrives eventually because i feel like it would still be as fun as playing the original games but it would save me the hassle of digging up all my games and getting every game to work. I've for sure noticed over the years that once you do get an NES cartridge working it works every time so i think leaving this one cartridge in would make getting the system going easier too since it would always be the same cartridge not being readjusted and stuff.

Is there a nes flash cart that will play Gameboy roms? Or could you put an emulator on it to run gb ROMs?

I made this video about 3 years ago, so I honestly can't remember, but if I said I did then I probably did.

Nathan Hassall It's cool. I didn't take your comment in a negative way or anything. I just honestly can't remember if I kept playing Castlevania. I think I probably did, though. I really love that game.

Yeah right. You "owned" Championship Pool and Championship Bowling and "copied" them to your computer.

Classic Gaming Quarterly You're right. You said "you", instead of I. Just highlighting the absurdity of owning roms.
@SuperClavera8 жыл бұрын
What's absurd about it? You can't buy new NES/SNES/etc games directly from the producers anyway so the producers won't get any money. The only way you can get old games is buying them from other people which isn't a benefit to anyone in the game development business.
@peterripson8 жыл бұрын
Until laws change to make old games like old book or other media it's still "against the law" to download roms that one doesn't own. I didn't state my own opinion on the matter but merely stated the "absurdity" of "claiming" the one owns the roms one uses. Super Duper Hyper Ultra Mega Double Extra Triple Extreme Infinity

+Peter Ripson but yet you can, I physically own all the Roms I've ever downloaded so you can in fact legally own one.
