I'm mad you guys didn't realize that Anakin basically taught Ahsoka for years how to defeat CLONE TROOPERS. She aged throughout this short. So when you get to Clone Wars Season 7 and Order 66 starts, she finds herself in the exact same training situation, but this time it's 'life and death' like Anakin told her years ago. Her training against Clone Troopers is why and how she survived Order 66.

The lesson: If she can survive against tougher opponents then it would be easier to handle the droid army. It also explains why she was the only Jedi that was actually prepared for order 66

Regardless of him not teaching her a lesson, his training does ensure she survives order 66. Her moves at the end show the way and the reason why she survives (compare those two scenes :) )

U guys actually missed the whole point of this episode..... the fact that anakin forced her to train this way to protect herself, came back to help her during order 66 when he turned to the darkside. if he didn't do that, she would be like almost all of the jedi's that died during the purge simply because nobody trained against soldiers...only against droids.

I freaking LOVED episode 5! Sometimes the lesson isn't about correction, it's about repetition. The exercise was to hone her instincts and reaction time. The lesson comes through the doing. It reminded me of old kung fu stories ("Why do we punch the sand?"), particularly the homage to them in Kill Bill with Pai-Mei teaching Beatrix the one inch punch by having her do it over and over. Obviously Sky Guy has more affection for Snips as a student and friend, as evidenced by his speech to her about teaching her to protect herself. But the structure is much the same. We see her struggle, we see her improve, we see she continues to willingly test herself as time progresses (down time between missions? Let's get in some reps trying not to get stunned!), and then we see what it was all for. The impossible test preparing her for the impossible battle. The moment I realized where/when they were in the final scene, the entire episode took on an air of doomed inevitability (my heart was NOT prepared for the sudden feels punch of having to relive that scene!). I absolutely loved it! Episode 6 was fantastic as well. "She was my friend" broke my damn heart. Then leaning into the old samurai/western trope of the fighter in hiding, trying to run from who they are, but the past is never too far behind (the past this time taking the form of Inquisitor Clancy Brown, who continues to give Phil LaMarr a run for his money as VO MVP in this galaxy!). I'm beginning to think the concept of "canon" in books and comics is a little loose, between the differences we see in episode 6 compared to the Ahsoka novel and the opening of Bad Batch compared to what we see in the Kanan comic (and loved seeing Lil Caleb Dume in episode 5!). Like, the shows and movies are sort of historical recordings of events as they occurred, but the books and comics are more like a version being told from memory or handed down through oral tradition or something where the details get a little skewed but the events still occurred in broad strokes. Until eventually every tale in the galaxy is just Rashomoned away. ;)

I think you missed the point of episode 5. It’s literally called practice makes perfect. The clones are much harder to predict than any training droid because they’re organic beings so you need to be stronger in the force for your reflexes to defeat them. Like obi wan tells Luke in A New Hope, it’s like you can see something before it happens. Also you’ll notice during her practice she perfects moves (like the spin she does) that she eventually uses in order 66 to survive when she’s surrounded in the EXACT same situation. The point of the episode is, on the surface, practice makes perfect. But deeper it shows us how anakin saved ahsoka from order 66, he trained her specifically for an order 66 like event without even realising it. This is how she survived

I do wanna say, in defense of episode 5. Ashoka survived that episode due TO anakin. If she never got that training, she would have died like many of the jedi. None were prepared for the clones turning. They were only trained against droids. Droids are predictable, you can figure out their moves pretty easily. They don't know HOW to be random. Anakin knew this was nothing for her (especially since she was part of a war. Droids were literally NOTHING to her). Yet, she got her ass kicked again and again from the clones. So that last episode? Order 66? The jedi died because of Anakin Skywalker, but Ashoka also lived because of him. Anakin was harsh, cause he wanted her to be prepared for anything. Edit: Forgot to mention Ignore if you haven't seen the Dooku Episode But Dooku mentions that the jedi can't sense something coming if its around someone they trust. Through this training, Ashoka learns to keep her awareness of the clones as well! She was able to sense their turn, unlike many of the jedi who realized way to late.

Ahsoka is a Jedi Knight and Master in deeds and experience, if not in name. She has been trained since almost before she could walk. She was brought in as a youngling by Jedi Master Plo Koon and assigned by Grand Master Yoda as a Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker. Her training and experience were forged during the Clone Wars, and she fought in its most significant battles. In addition to being taught and mentored by the greatest Knights and Masters of the Jedi, she was a commander in the Grand Army of the Republic and served with Clone Captain Rex of the 501st Legion. She fought in, out, and behind enemy lines throughout the war. By the time of her match with this puny Inquisitor, she had already fought in the Siege of Mandalore against Darth Maul, who uses a double-bladed lightsaber. She is one of the last surviving Jedi Knights at this time. She could have force-choked him out and crushed him instantly if she wanted. It was not a contest, nor should it have been.

The start of the episode 5 is early in the clone wars as the clones are in generation 1 armour. It does a time jump when they're on the ship as the clones are in different armour and Ashoka has solidified what form she primarily uses. What the 5th episode hammered home is that the other jedi weren't prepared for order 66. Anakin through his harsh lessons made it possible to survive.

Episode 5 and a Akakins trial taught Ahsoka about hard work and the dangers of complacency. The episode starts with a test that doesn’t actually challenge her and she says “it’s what every Jedi does” in the original test. The same Jedi whose complacency got them wiped out. Yes anakin did constantly tell her how to improve but failure is sometimes the best teacher. Trial and error forced her to learn how to adapt and teach herself. After lots of failure and improvements we get the time skip and Rex compliments her improvement but she knew she could do better and did. You don’t get better by doing what you can but by doing what you can’t right now. Was Anakin hard on her? Yes. But it equipped her with the tools to become one of the greatest force users of her time and go on to help save many more people than the average Jedi.

hi guys. I grew up on a ranch and we also grew our own hay on some of our back pastures. A "small" square bale of hay is a 50 pound bale. If she had a whole wagon fall on her, that would have been enough to kill her (or hurt her very badly). Now, this is Star Wars, and who's to say that their bales of hay are like ours. But...at least you can get an idea of where the animators/story writers were coming from and their thought processes.

“Practice makes perfect” which is each & every one of us does. How can you be good at anything without practice? That’s like saying I know how to fire a gun but lack the knowledge & skills to make yourself good at it. Breathing control, recoil control, positioning stance, weapon maintenance, etc. There’s more to it than just simply pulling the trigger. It can be simple as how do you know which buttons on a controller will allow to do what action? Simple, keep practicing by playing the game & you’ll learn them to the point where you don’t look at your controller anymore to which button does what. Imagine you as a civilian fighting a soldier in hand to hand combat. You’ll lose in matter of seconds cuz you don’t have the mind of a soldier. They know where your weak points are & know how to fight than just simply punching. Lastly, how can you do better if you don’t challenge yourself? The main is point is to adapt in order to survive. Life is never easy & not everything in life will go accordingly as planned. Especially if it’s a life & death situation. You only have 1 life. If you care about not dying then you need to challenge yourself rather than simply do what everyone does is easy.

It is so frustrating to watch the depth of the meaning behind episode 5 go directly over their heads... All of the other Jedi, including masters on the high council, fell to their clones within a matter of seconds. None of them thought they would need to battle anyone or anything as good as their clones. It's just another way in which the Jedi became complacent and weak. This whole 6 episode arc covers two former Jedi who become disillusioned with the order. That's the overall theme here. Anakin sees that these droid tests as complacency and strives to make his apprentice better than what he sees as a low bar. In the end, she can walk out against hundreds of clones knowing she can pretect Rex and herself because of all these training sessions. Anakin literally saved her from Order 66 by making her better than all the other Jedi.

That’s the driest reaction to episode 5 I’ve ever seen. Pls rewatch the whole of clone wars again… looks like you need it👍

Filoni created Ahsoka Tano. I like the book but his stories are canon.

Meh. Episode 5 is basically every king fu movie with the theme of relentless, repetitive training. Even Daredevil was trained by Stick like that. Big deal 😛

You are trashing this episode and you haven’t even finished clone wars. You both are frustrating

I’ve seen all of it and she hasn’t, but I’m not sure why that should matter. Some people are going to watch this first and it’s a valid point of view.

Ahsoka would be dead were it not for this lesson. Your response seems odd for an avowed Ahsoka fan.

Extremely awkward you two. Talks too much without knowing the real intention of the training lol

We live in a soft culture but harsh discipline creates champions like in the Ahsoka episode--Champions are not made by softness but by repetitive practice and even pain tolerance and discipline not being nice to your student.

First I was pissed that you making fun of Anakin’s training for Ahsoka but in the end of episode 5 I understand why you don’t get it
