It's my personal belief that Nintendo didn't plan on doing a 2nd dlc, but things happened to change that. In this scenario, Steve was supposed to be the final DLC character but the team couldn't figure out how to do the building thing in time. Once they decided to push Steve back they needed an easy to design character or two (enter Byleth and Min Min). By that point, they were able to get the rights to Sora, so Steve shocked everyone as the second character of the second DLC. That's why there are so many more first party characters in wave 2 rather than wave 1.

I totally agree with this. It’s why Byleth’s reveal and inclusion felt odd and rushed. Though my opinions have changed since I wander how long it really took for Nintendo to really collaborate with Disney since they knew from the beginning that Sora was the most request character.

pretty sure the fighters pass must have included at least one first party so then the discount you get for buying the whole pass doesn't go to any third party and they get nothing for licensing their property. Buy fighter pass 1, get 4 third party characters, Byleth is free - Nintendo takes the hit for the hype DLC Buy fighter pass 2, get 4 third party characters + 1 first party, 2nd first party is free, take your pick - Nintendo still takes the hit for hype DLC. Plant, Byleth, Min Min, and Pythra we're all most likely decided to be relegated to DLC to subsidize licensing costs. nothing to license when it's your own property.

While it is true that brand new characters often get picked, being outdated doesn't kill off a characters chances. They added Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B., Pit, Duck Hunt Duo, King K. Rool, Dark Samus, Chrom, Wolf, Ness, Lucas, Simon, Richter and Banjo & Kazooie, when they hadn't been in any games for a while at the time

Because his impression on people was strong enough, plain and simple. The best example I can provide is Neku from The World Ends With You. It only had one game (not counting the re-releases on the iOS and Switch) for years, but the joy people experienced from playing it gave rise to people wanting him in, enough to the point of having a Discord and subreddit (which has changed over time, but the desire is still there.) While TWEWY eventually got a sequel and as such not only is a franchise now, but also has a recent entry, seemingly increasing his odds of getting into Smash, it didn't happen, but the fans will continue to want to see one of their favorite characters/franchises represented in what is arguably the biggest celebration of gaming and just another overall fun game.

You know what made me really sad? Despite having a good relationship with Nintendo, Ace Attorney has absolutely nothing in smash. No assist trophies, no spirits, no music, no mii costumes. I was hoping that Phoenix Wright will at least get a mii costume during the final DLC reveal.

Actually for MH there is a reason MVCI. The creator was upset with the hunter being the protagonist they wanted the monsters to be repped. They did not want to do any collabs with any other fighting games if the hunter is the main fighter. So that's actually what happened

Recently I've felt the only reason that sparked the whole Waluigi for Smash movement was to solely complete the plumber set of having Mairo, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi in the same game together, not an actual desire for the character himself. There's actually more to the Monster Hunter. The person in charge of the series doesn't like putting the Hunters themselves into cross overs, to the point he initially declined them for MvC3 and almost didn't allow them in Infinite later. Post MVCI they stated they weren't happy with the Hunters protrayal in the game as it doesn't capture the idea of hunting, gathering and becoming stronger. I firmly believe it was Nintendo who didn't think they weren't a good fit, but CapCom themselves, based off the given information. If the Hunter was given a spot in Smash in the future, I imagine them being a hybrid a Byleth and Steve's mechanics, but with the addition of getting more power after each time they KO an opponent.

@@peterduprey7286 leveling up Steve's weopons doesn't make him OP. They can even put in weopon durability just like with Steve, since having to sharpen your weopon is a thing in MH. Putting a non random item select is a far more OP concept, since it gives the character more options than the rest of the cast.

I’m not sure why you guys thought it was gonna be a Pokémon especially since there hasn’t been a new Pokémon generation in two years. I’m aware there’s new games coming out in November but that’s a gen 4 remake and smash already has a gen 4 representative. Also, adding cinderace rn would make no sense because of the new game coming out. Honestly tho as huge of a Pokémon fan I am I would’ve hated smash to end off on a Pokémon advertisement.

15:34 it was the same thing with Krystal. A Star Fox character (though truthfully it was supposed to be her own game called Dinosaur Planet. (Which a actually near complete game is available online to play). Which was then converted into Star Fox Adventure for the gamecube). Her last appearance was Star Fox command on the DS back in 2006. (Which pretty much destroyed Star Fox in general and really damaged her character). She was originally planned to be in Brawl back on the wii but was sadly pulled due to time development and replace with Wolf. Some people were really pleased to see her back in a actually game for the first time since over a decade. I was abit disappointed that when she was in as a assist trophy.

A character that I'm strangely holding out hope for them being in the next Smash is Klonoa. While nowhere as popular as Crash and Spyro, Klonoa has had a pretty loyal fanbase. In addition, considering there was a Klonoa movie in the works, the soundtracks for Door to Phantomile and Lunatea's Veil recently getting vinyl releases, and Klonoa Encore looking to be being worked on, Namco likely has plans for the series. And while he hasn't had any recent games, Tekken hadn't had a major game in 6 years when Kazuya got announced as DLC.

I think personally it's not just Monster Hunter not getting in, but we didn't have any Capcom fighter representation in Smash Ultimate except for an echo. Although there are rumors and "gripes" with the developers about having a hunter in any fighter. We didn't get Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Pheonix Wright, Okami, etc. none of these highly requested characters didn't get in , but were acknowledged at most.

So in terms of SMT reps it's obvious they would need to have a Demon summoning mechanic (as a down-b) where maybe it cycles through small but iconic demons as obstacles. I feel like any game from a Nintendo series with a changing cast that wasn't added to Smash now has missed their chance entirely Pokemon Gens 3, 5 & 8 Fire Emblem 2/15, 4, 5, 7 & 8 Xenoblade X Mother 1 They most likely weren't added because either their games weren't the most recent by the time the next Smash released, or they were but didn't get added for some reason (Xenoblade X in Smash 4's DLC & Pokemon Gen 8 in Ultimate's Vol 2). They're probably gonna prioritize future games from these franchises in future Smash installments rather than going back to these older games that are no longer the newest (And Mother is dead so I doubt they'd even add a new Mother rep at all)

Thats the sad part with these type of franchises. I guess that also explains why some Nintendo IPs like Metroid, Kirby & Zelda didnt have too many fighters is because theyre not a priority. Samus, Kirby & Link always comes back so probably in Nintendo's eyes, its not worth it to add one since they can just update the current ones in the roster with new moves or new stages

I feel like Rex's exclusion needs more elaboration. He didn't simply get passed up for the girls, they couldn't get him working with a moveset that would have been faithful to his game so the girls on their own was the best compromise as Rex fighting alongside them would have been too demanding for the possibility of having 8 of him/them on the screen all at once. Now if they decide to only have 1-4 player smash in a future game, i can totally see them taking Pyra/Mythra and reincorperating Rex back in like originally envisioned to be.

As sad as it is, I honestly believe Smash will never have Tales of Representation, for multiple reasons. First there's Sakurai stating that if any Tales protagonist was considered it would be Lloyd Irving. So as popular and unique as other protags like Yuri, Velvet and Alphen are, there is really only one who ever had a chance. Lloyd. Unfortunately there are a few problems that will always exist against Lloyd's chances. For one, Nintendo doesn't seem to care about the Series as a whole. Whereas Tales is a multiplatform series the last few titles have been understandably passed over most likely due to hardware limitations/lack of sales. And the worst kicker? *sigh* Lloyd is the perfect Mii. Alot of his iconic moves I believe were inspiration for the Mii Swordfighter back in 4. There's also the Fire Emblem factor. If Smash fans continually clamor over "bland and repetative" Sword fighters, What motivation would Nintendo ever have to add Lloyd when this argument can be applied?

The "Fire Emblem factor" is entirely caused by bad decisions in who was added to Smash. Fire Emblem has the worst representation per slot of any series in Smash, even when considering characters like Captain Falcon who's moveset has nothing to do with their home series. The best way to explain it is imagine if every Pokemon in Smash was a Pikachu derivative (so Pikachu, Pichu, Plusle/Minon, and so on); even if the characters had different movesets with different properties like the Fire Emblem cast does, people would still hate Pokemon for having so little variation. If Fire Emblem had been properly represented, with focus on things like the Weapon Triangle rather than just the main character of the most recent game, the complaints about "another anime swordsman" wouldn't be pervasive because you wouldn't have 7 characters that visually similar to each other from the same series.

Sadly Elma was pretty much doom as soon as the full base roster was finalized. I don’t see them taking her over a XC2 reps which was way more recent/popular/known, the current best selling Xenoblade game and on the switch for the DLC. (The only timeframe I would’ve considered her likely, would’ve been during smash4 DLC) But it’s a necessary evil for me (Pyra&mythra without Rex specifically was my most wanted and elma my second. But I knew we wouldn’t get both and I much rather had a XC2 than a XCX rep personally)

X is going to get a remake on the next Switch and a sequel. Elma will come to Smash guaranteed. Noah will come to the base roster because of the massive popularity that Xenoblade 3 will have and then Elma will come to Smash as dlc when Xenoblade X2 is announced.

Shadow would have made for an easily echo fighter (or even semi clone or an echo hybrid fighter (which is what I consider Chrom when you look at his moveset)). It's frustrating when people say making shadow a clone of sonic is a disrespect to his character after many years. To that I say NO it's not. In 2001's sonic adventure 2 shadow was introduced as a sonic clone, just like how ken is a clone of ryu (to which nobody has issue with and nobody liked how ken was in street fighter 5). Shadow has been using most of sonic's techniques since 2001 to right now. THIS IS GOING TO GET A BIT RANTY SO I APOLOGY FOR HOW LONG THIS WILL BE BUT I'M TRYING TO MAKE A POINT. Since SA2: shadow could do spin dash, homing attack, summersault, and light speed dash (like sonic). In sonic heroes: he could homing attack, light speed dash, rocket accel, triangle jump and that wind tornado attack (in the exact same manner as sonic.). In the shadow the hedgehog game played just like sonic with the homing attack, spin dash, and triangle jump which turned into a parkour wall run. In sonic 06: shadow was bit different in play style but the homing attack he had still had some of the same properties despite having a combat heavy focus. But in chaosX's 06 shadow got the spin dash back. And finally we come to sonic generations and sonic forces; In generations shadow was seen using the boost, just like how sonic could since sonic rush and unleashed and 6 years later with the shadow DLC to forces shadow had sonic's boost formula style, homing attack (but now shadow could homing attack into a long stream of enemies), boosting, slide, and ground stomp. With all of these things mentioned they're just as much natural things shadow can do in game as they are for sonic. Yes the chaos powers are unique to shadow, focusing on that in the same way sonic battle, shadow the hedgehog, and sonic 06 did it, it would make him different and even the combat style from sonic 06 would work BUT those two things aren't enough for shadow to work with he would need staple moves like homing attack and spin dash. Plus the combat gameplay from sonic 06 wasn't liked that much because of the official state 06 was released in and don't get me started on the gun gameplay, that was only a thing because Takeshi Iizuka wanted the game to pander to Americans and their love for dark and edgy stuff at the time. The point is the things I listed are techniques that shadow can do just as naturally as sonic could. To say that shadow having the homing attack and spin dash would be a disrespect to his character is really stupid to say because HE'S BEEN DOING THAT SINCE 2001. That's like saying ken going the hydoken and shoryuken is a disrespect to HIS character when we all know that isn't true. I understand that people want a second sonic character that isn't a clone but who says you can't make shadow unique while letting him keep the homing attack and spin dash?

There is a really weird and particular reason why the monster hunter character was a mii rather than a stand alone fighter. If the series producer was approached for that, he likely would have declined or even outright expressed preference in a mii costume. MH devs had gone on record expressing regret that the monster hunter was a playable character in MVCi because they felt the representation wouldn't be faithful if there was no way for the players to customize them as the hunter is supposed to represent the players themselves and not any one specific character.

The one thing i am satisfied is finding out that sora did end up being the number 1 pick. It showed that fans really wanted him in but during smash 4 they couldn't use him so they went with bayonetta who also was popular and they could use. Regardless i think the smash ballot basically confirms that all the newcomers who joined ultimate are the ones fans heavily requested worldwide. Even the dlc makes sense since all those characthers are popular and were probably mention during ballot (with the exception of byleth who didnt exist but his game did really well)

Daisy is there because the Echo treatment fits with her whole existence. She was merely an expy for Peach when they had to make Mario platform on GameBoy and task was assigned to a different team with Miyamoto leaving the spot to non other than Gunpei Yokoi, so it probably seemed natural to give a dramatic twist to the series. The wish of experimenting made happened that even the sequel take a totally new course, and Daisy was lost along the process. The Mario platform series evolved without her, leaving Daisy as roster material for spin off games. I can imagine Sakurai choosing Daisy as a Peach clone to give fair tribute to Mario Land.

You know, ever since the N64 games for the Switch online came out. I kind of thought that Saki from Sin and Punishment would get in in order to promote the Switch Online Expansion since it comes with Sin and Punishment. However, that's not to be the case. I also speculated that Sophie from the Atelier series since her new game is coming out and Smash love JRPG characters. I wanted Chun-Li because usually, she appears in every crossover Ryu has ever appeared in. However, I really wanted a Custom Robo character for a long time, but never happened. Sakurai could have added him in Melee or Brawl when it was somewhat relevant, but I'm annoyed/bummed that he didn't take the chance when it was just sitting right there.

I think alot of these characters not making it in are because they're not Ultimate enough, I mean that as like a suprise. We can see that most of the time they were going for characters like: "OMG, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS CHARACTER MADE IT IN" like Ridey and Steve, it seems to fit in the Ultimate theme due to be a shock/suprise because more surprising equals more hype. @@INFERNO95 well he was mentioned in a couple votes for melee (they were manly voting for Wario but still) when Wario got in brawl people were happy Waluigi got an assist trophy at least. by smash 4 people were asking for his inclusion for him because they liked him. also it isn't just a smash meme Waluigi was heavily rumoured to be in Mario 64 ds in 2004. when Mario kart 7 released and he wasn't included people were mad because he had become a staple of the series at that point. You don't see people asking for plant to be playable in any game.

Yet consider this about Daisy; She was in Super Mario Land, a mainline SMB game. As for my lost wish of a character, I really wanted Phoenix Wright. Marvel vs Capcom 3 did him good, and there have been plenty of fighters with no fighting background. I actually would've been fine if he was just a Mii Fighter, but we only got 3, and he wasn't one of them.

I feel like this entire video really underestimate fan requests because of a franchise not being that relevant. Pretty much every smash game has characters from franchises that are either dormant or dead, or forgotten characters in general. K Rool, The Belmonts, and Banjo are examples of that. So unless smash is going to be just newer characters, these older ones will definitely still be possible

KRool isn't a feasible example since Mario and Donkey Kong series are still producing. If Nintendo want KRool that much, they should just throw in into games like newest Mario Party.

I play smash brothers a lot and I love and adore the game on nintendo switchBut my favorite part about the game is seeing everyone happy of returning and upcoming character I We'll never be disappointed about a character ever getting into smash because I'm always glad to see some people happy about that characterAnd if it's a game I've never played before it introduces me to the franchise in a wonderful way IAnd having that in one game is so magical to me and so special and I can't wait for the future of the franchise

Me being a Doom fan realizing that Doom Slayer coming to Smash all depends on how Microsoft and Nintendo relationship will be in the future. And then Astral Chain just needs a sequel and I think it's a lock for the next Smash game

What about this? Sega doesn't allow anyone but Sonic or a variation of him (like Classic) to be playable on Modern games. His friends have pretty much become useless stools for Sonic's ego. We will NEVER get another Sonic rep in Smash, and we'll defiitely won't get a new Smash.

Imagine in a future smash game, we have a showcase of assist trophies where waluigi comes out as an assist trophy, to then just transistion into cgi footage where he smacked the guy/girl/thing that summoned him and reveal himself as a fighter

Another character I see dipping in chances is Shovel Knight, don't get me wrong the series is still popular but it still hasn't had any new games since the first in terms of mainline. So far only 1 game with expansion. I still remember 4-5 years ago when they said they were planning a 16-bit and 64-bit style sequels yet we still don't have that.

I mean look at little mac, dark samus, and isabelle. They were assist trophies once before, probably he has a better chance if smash 6 comes around!

Hey it's been a while, WHEN IS FALL GUYS COMING TO THE SWITCH, it feels like nintendo just quit on putting that on their console
