But Brazil is not the only one South American who does not speak Spanish. Suriname (Dutch) and Guyana (French) also share this title.

@@xmaverickhunterkx : I think you should check on your Portuguese history. Portugal was by no means “ignored”. It had become a British protectorate of sorts by 1808, and HMG was a decisive factor in convincing Dom João VI in leaving Lisbon for Rio de Janeiro. The Brits were a powerful factor in trying to preserve an open market for their exporters in all of Portuguese America and strived to prevent a truly effective national government from impinging on their “rights” from 1821 on. So I guess you had better choose another argument.

Ecuador is not named after a geological feature, but a geographical one. The Equator isn't a geological formation of phenomenon, rather it is defined geographically as the line marking the middle point between the poles. The geological feature you do mention is the equatorial bulge, which is also named after the equator and not vice-versa. Ecuador was named before the existance of the equatorial bulge was known.

I would rephrase this, Paraguay is the only truly totally bilingual country in South America because of education system, not simply because Guaraní is an official language. Bolivia has 36 official languages (including Guaraní) but the education system doesn't take advantage of them, thus the amount of bilingual people is limited. Either way it is a very special thing about Paraguay!

here's one info you didn't cover about Suriname. The country has the largest percentage of Muslims per population in the Americas (disclaimer: I'm not Surinamese, but I do love geography). Most of these Muslims are ethnically Javanese, who are descendants of indentured labourers brought over by the Dutch from the Dutch East Indies (now-Indonesia, which is where I'm actually from).

I reckon Panama and Trinidad and Tobago should be classified as South American countries. Panama is historically related to South America (as a part of Gran Colombia), not Central America. Purely by geography, Trinidad and Tobago can be considered a part of South America. The gap between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela is so small that if you are a marathon swimmer, you can actually swim over it.

AMERICA is the continent which is correct for history and geography. Amerigo Vespucci the Italian navigator at the service of Spain, (the first to recognize the existence of a new world). I NEVER explore North America. And Brazil was the first region of planet Earth to legitimately receive the name of AMERICA, in 1507 by European cartographers officially. (The documents are official). Therefore a country called the United States has nothing to do with the name AMERICA. Taking / Misappropriating the name of the continent cannot change history as they (the North Americans) did in 1776. The real story is: America has been the continent (just the continent) and the region of Brazil since 1507, is the first AMERICA.

@@Luck77332 wait is that the reason why. I’m always the most educated person in social studies class because people think they speak Mexican in Mexico and I correct them by saying they speak Spanish. I’m the only person in every class who’s knows history about countries and there language. Same for Canada they think they speak Canadian when they speak English and French.
