I love how J.K Rowling wrote Ron’s character as she made him the purest out of all of them and I heard she based Ron off one of her longtime best friends. But I was really disappointed when Steve Kloves completely degraded his character. They took away all of Ron’s great qualities and gave them to Hermione and took all of Hermione’s bad qualities and gave them to Ron

I liked how Ron defended Hermione against Snape even when he was angry with her over crookshanks. Also, Ron stood ON A BROKEN LEG to tell a apparent murderer that he wouldn’t let him near his best friend. Both of these moments highlight his character and shows his loyalty and bravery. this is why Hermione slapping (not punching btw) Malfoy feels that much better in the book. it's so much more out of character for Book Hermione to physically assault a student than Movie Hermione, who for some reason got painted out to be much more than she actually was. *EDIT* : also book Hermione is supposed to have buck teeth (which i believe Morgan covered in his PS video), and that only goes away when in GoF Malfoy (or was it Goyle?) jinxes her & makes them grow even longer, and then she tells Madam Pomfrey to shrink them to even shorter than what it was previously! it's only after this that Hermione's "beauty" is ever mentioned, and this is when Ron started noticing her as a potential dating partner (which ironically started with their awkward moment at the Yule Ball).

Technically Sirius actually had Crookshanks buy the Firebolt for Harry because he couldn't be seen at the Owl Office placing the order, though Crookshanks bought it with Sirius' money in Harry's name. The movie completely fails to portray how ridiculously smart that cat actually was in the books.
@hiddendesire3076
@hiddendesire3076 Жыл бұрын
Crookshanks wasn’t even a regular cat. I can’t recall the name, but essentially the species that Crookshanks owed part of his lineage to were essentially a species of feline familiars, possessing vastly higher intellects. Additionally, Sirius had informed Crookshanks of who Scabbers truly was and the danger he posed to the trio, thus why he continued to pursue them in the hopes of bringing them back to Sirius in his dog form.

Aging up the Marauders, Lily, and Snape actually annoys me. Part of the tragedy is how young Lily and James were when they died. They had barely left school or had time to start their lives, and yet they were prepared to die fighting. I've always felt this is part of the reason why Harry accepted the need to fight so young, because that is what his parents did. Snape's character also makes so much more sense if he is 30, rather than nearing 50. Snape's life basically freezes or ends when Lily dies. When Lily died he was only out of school for about two years. That is mostly why he is still so angry at his high school bullies, and still so deeply in love with his childhood best friend. That is why he was stupid enough go to Voldemort to save Lily and why he was immature enough to not care if James lived or died. Snape was still a kid when he was a death eater.

Still hate how the screenwriter gave Hermione Ron’s line of “if you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us, too.” It was one of Ron’s amazing brave moment. It was the moment where he showed how much he cared about Harry that he was even willing to _die_ with him. Right there, he bravely stood up to Sirius, who he thought was a freaking murderer. And declaring that, if he (Sirius) is going to kill Harry, then he should kill him, too. And he did that ON A BROKEN LEG. but of course, the screenwriter just _had_ to give his moment to Hermione. Just like he did with plenty of other Ron moments. Is giving Ron his own lines and moments a torture or something?

The way the movies portrayed Harry and Ron’s friendship made people misunderstand their relationship. Harry and Ron were CLOSE, like inseparable. They immediatly became friends on the train and Ron was already very loyal offering to be Harry’s wingman in the midnight duel and even sacrificing himself in the game of chess. The movies did fine in the first two, but then it slowly got toned down and they didn’t seem nearly as close as they were in the books.

This may just be my hot take here, but I actually really like Lupin’s werewolf form in the movie. The scrawniness, hunched back, and crackling bones (while he’s transforming) makes it seem like an ungodly affliction. Something that you wouldn’t even wish on your worst enemy. (Edit): Also, the wolfsbane potion didn’t completely stop Lupin from turning into a wolf. It just allowed him to “keep his mind” while he was one. “I was a very small boy when I received the bite. My parents tried everything, but in those days there was no cure. The Potion that Professor Snape has been making for me is a very recent discovery. It makes me safe, you see. As long as I take it in the week preceding the full moon, I keep my mind when I transform... I am able to curl up in my office, a harmless wolf, and wait for the moon to wane again. Before the Wolfsbane Potion was discovered, however, I became a fully fledged monster once a month. It seemed impossible that I would be able to come to Hogwarts. Other parents weren't likely to want their children exposed to me.”

The bond of the Marauders and how that plays as a character motivation for Harry is one of the most important parts of the series and it really saddens me that they cut nearly all of that background information in POA. Harry's "Prongs" line is so emotional and not only is it not in the movie, but it wouldn't make sense if it was there. I still see POA as the best movie though, I think Alfonso was the best director of the 4 and he did a great job adapting the book to a movie. The way he shows the time-turner and the interactions between future and past Harry and Hermione here is more comprehensible than it is in the book, and more interesting.

Unfortunately, it is a contest between Sirius and Severus on who’s moar immature. Just look at Sirius’s choice to bang Snape’s head on the tunnel ceiling, when, with Snape all tied up, Sirius could wake him up and force him to look at Wormtail. For justice reasons, and for “Rub it in Snivellus’s face” reasons.

Great clip as usual ☺️. One correction, though: the potion Snape gives Lupin does not stop him from turning (if it did, he wouldn't have to stay away at all), but it lets him keep his own sense of mind like a "harmless wolf".

Nah a lot of the things in this film were done really well, they did Ron dirty and left out the marauders but other than that it was a great adaptation, condensing weeks into a night is just good writing if you kept it all it would be 4 hours long at least and it would be quite boring.

The fact that they made Ron agree with Snape will forever haunt me lol The fact that he took her defense even when he was mad with her because of her cat says a lot about their relationship. I didn’t like the movie very much. I get how much had to be cut because of time restraints, but they cut out the best parts. Like Harry learning about his father’s stag form. Plus they cut out the Quidditch final and the Griffindors winning the title. They also cut out the what the prophecy was and Dumbledore learning about it. And Ron’s shocking but funny quote to Peter, “I let you sleep in my bed!”

They really took out a lot 9f scenes showing the camaraderie between the trio (ron, Harry, Hermione)like the scene where the 3 of them worked together to disarm Sirius, or when they all disarmed Snape at the same time, this shows just how in sync and close these 3 are, and how they all work together to do what one of them wouldn't be able to do on theor own. It really highlights how well they work together and just how close they are . It's a real shame they didn't add scene likes that in the movie more, and in some cases, they just took out of the film all together

I tend to be a purist when comparing book to movie conversions. Though I do understand that there are things that don't convert well, like inner monologues. With that in mind, I can give a pass for depicting frost when dementors are around in the movie as a way of showing the intense cold that is felt in the book.

Great work as usual. I’ve read the books several times over, most recently in audiobook format, so I know all about the various differences between the 2 mediums. Still enjoy watching these for how they’re presented tho. Yet saying that the fact that Lupin’s werewolf form is more like that of a regular wolf in the book has always escaped me for some reason. Probably ‘cause I have a habit of picturing the characters as they appear in the films ever since watching those. Interesting choice by the filmmakers given what JK was obviously going for.

I think the actors being older works because all three characters are super stressed and prematurely aged. Harry even says that Lupin and greying hair. Being left in Azkaban I think that Sirius would also look stressed out and much older than he really was.
