Okay, so, I think I’ve deciphered the timeline: Trapp attempted to kill Pat, and in fact believed that he had. He buried Pat, not knowing that he was still alive. Pat escaped his earthen prison, and began making his way back towards the CH office to get his revenge on Trapp. He stopped by Zach’s desk to gather supplies. He was then *actually* murdered on his quest by a woman who stole his identity.

Then, we wouldn't know that he went to jail for killing Pat. There's no evidence, but I think it could be "revealed".
