Super Mario Kart, a prime example of first game syndrome. There are a couple good courses, but there's a LOT of jank that later games would fix. That said, I can't hate it due to how influential it is, and I can occasionally laugh with the game's jank instead of at it. Also, shout-outs to Mario Circut 2 and Rainbow for actually holding up pretty well for 30 year old tracks.

Words can’t describe hopping over part of the track in the 90s. You hit the nail on the head with that. This was the first game I remember playing. I didn’t really race at first I just drove around and “explored” each track. It may not look like much now but I still have fun going back to it. I gotta say, I fully understand why Schaff ranks this Mario Kart so low but I have the time of my life whenever I play Super Mario Kart, and I played it for the first time when I was 24 so there's no nostalgia for it or anything. I just find the gameplay very tight and fun, I love that it was a racing game made before so many conventions of racing games existed so they just ran away with the concept, I love how jumping is such an important mechanic and that the feather is so fun, I love that you need to remember which item boxes you've taken on previous laps and how that incentivises you to take different routes each lap, I love the lack of a blue shell, I love the asymmetric gameplay between you and the CPUs, I just think the whole thing is an absolute romp, and Bowser's Castle 3 is the peak. Fun video though, looking forward to the conclusion of this series! :D
