10:34 the part with him holding out his hand is a direct reference to Ocarina of Time, both to the vision Link has of Ganondorf at the start of the game and to the scene it's predicting where Zelda flees from Ganondorf on horseback with Impa, in both, Link is approached by Ganondorf, who holds out his palm in the same fashion as the victory animation.
@jstar33823 жыл бұрын
yeah the animation where he absolutely obliterates yl
@the_bookworm82813 жыл бұрын
There are two things that I want to point out that I don't see in the comments. 1) Ganondorf's victory animation where he laughs is more based on a scene in Twilight Princess (after the horseback Ganondorf fight), where Ganondorf laughs out loud then strikes a more serious face. The reference is more loose in Ultimate since we are now working with Ocarina of Time Ganondorf, but in Brawl (the game where the victory pose originated from) the reference is much more clear as he laughs in pretty much exactly the same way (not just the voice, but the way he laughs). 2) The other is Game & Watch's victory theme. While it is indeed, well... a remix of beeps and boops, it is actually based on the Flat Zone 2 theme composed in Brawl. This can be more seen when compared to his victory theme in Melee, where in that game, the victory theme has very similar vibes to the Flat Zone theme made in that game.

- Peach's first victory pose may have drawn some inspiration from official artwork, where she was sometimes depicted with her parasol, often in a similar pose. - likewise, her third victory pose here draws inspiration from thanking Mario and co in all his adventures (usually giving Mario a kiss on the cheek or nose), using hearts as it is also her motif in pretty much the entire series by now. Funnily enough, the first one to do the thank with a heart is actually Daisy in Super Mario Land, lol. - the stance Sheik takes in her second victory pose in this vid bears some ressemblance to her Sm4sh render, notably in the hand position. This would, by proxy, also make it a reference to Sheik's identity reveal in OoT, where she did the same hand pose. It's not 1-to-1 to the pose itself, but the similarities are there and worth noting. - Ganondorf's second victory pose's hand positioning could also be seen as a reference to how he casts magic in OoT, that being with his open palm. I doubt this is "just to make him EEEEVIIIL", rather it's because he IS evil, so the source material already does that for him. - I would say Mewtwo's first victory pose is actually more reminiscient of his Sm4sh render (just flipped) rather than his Ultimate one. - The end pose of Roy's second victory pose also looks quite similar to hise idle with the Binding Blade equipped in Fire Emblem The Binding Blade, though with slight tweaks to make it work with the camera and as more of a victory pose than an idle.

3:55 As someone who was a yellow belt in kenpo as a kid I was never taught this block and sure as hell wouldn't recommend it. All of the blocks I was taught have the hand as a fist and the palm _never_ facing the opponent. A fist can take a hit _a lot better_ than a bare palm. Maybe the trick is to grab before the hit lands?
@godowskygodowsky11552 жыл бұрын
As someone with black belts in various martial arts and some experience in MMA, I can tell you that open palm has its uses in fighting. Defensively, you can deflect punches, though this technique has to be trained. In Wing Chun, you are trained to use an open palm to flick an incoming punch into your elbow. Offensively, a palm strike can be as strong as a punch without risking damage to your knuckles. In boxing, you wear gloves, so there's no reason to use the heel or blade of the hand. Lastly, some older styles look weird because they had different applications from what is remembered today. One particular Shaolin form is actually a quarterstaff form, but today, it's practiced without a staff, so you end up in weird stances that make little sense. Other styles might have come from building weaponless techniques from lance vocabulary or slowing down a fighting technique for the purpose of core training.
@mattwo72 жыл бұрын
@@godowskygodowsky1155 I've never heard of a boxing style that doesn't involve fist-based combat before, do any exist or is that just a general note?
@godowskygodowsky11552 жыл бұрын
@@mattwo7 I said that boxing isn't concerned with knuckle injuries because the hands are protected by gloves. As a result, they would not need to use open palm techniques. Contrast this with other fighting systems that don't use gloves, many (though not all) of which do use e.g. palm and knife strikes.

Regarding G&W's right victory screen, it is specifically Game B. The Game and Watch games often had 2 different difficulty options when using the game function of the device. Game A is often much easier, where Game B is noticeably harder, but often have more opportunities to gain points. In the case of Ball, Game A uses only 2 balls to juggle, where as Game B uses 3 balls. Since a point is gained whenever a ball is caught, you get more points faster in Game B. Though bear in mind that since the game speeds up the more points you have, Game B has larger difficulty scaling as well. Since the right victory screen uses 3 balls, it is specifically a reference to Game B.
