tbh, its semi realistic buts its still a fairly Arcady game idk how it is with tanks but at least with planes i often find myself wanting for a better sim and just end up switching over to dcs instead. i would take flying the f16c in dcs over warthunder any day, and the only reason i play warthunder is when im to tired to boot up dcs and want something less realistic but nothing will ever compare to mastering a jet in dcs compared to warthunder.

@@tunaritoope2059 The problem is that they often have a bias on how far you have to go in certain aspects to prove something is done. EG you can prove that a plane could carry X weapon, that it was designed with that in mind, wired for it, but because Y country chose not to arm it as such, they refuse to give it that weapon system. Meanwhile, a different (a country they do like) made a prototype plane that they never armed, never put protection systems on and gaijin will give it all the bells and whistles, or will completely ignore its real life inabilities such as say, inability to carry a full combat load in reality due to the engines inefficiency. People wouldnt mind if they were consistant on this front, but they simply are not, IIRC spookston even had the creator of a vehicle back up his documents and gaijin still refused to implement changes, while other vehicles had corrections made because a couple 2nd hand sources were enough proof. When you market on "accuracy" and "balance", "their game" is a poor argument.

Fun fact about the F-16 leak. Back then, the MiG-29 and F-16 were released in the game simultaniously and there were bets on which one would have classified documents leaked first. Some people were surprised it took so long because both of these aircrafts are very popular since they are still widely used to this day by many nations.

They aren't as bad as it's made out to be, a lot of these documents are already just a google search away (The Eurofighter DA7 document can be found in 30 seconds from a post from 2018). Also some of the "leaks" are actually just declassified hard to find documents, or in the case of the Su-57 they are actually publically published design patents.

So hard that only really pasionate players stick around. 2 you need quite a lot of background info about your tanks to use it in its most optimal way 3 you need to read every tank and plane otherwise you are dead within 0.002 sec

War thunder uses an interesting system in that tanks don't just have a health bar, if you shot a tank in the engine the engine stops. Each component can be independently destroyed. So while the internals don't matter for external models, it does matter in gameplay.

Funny story, a friend of mine came to me a couple years back and asked me to translate something into English for him (for context I am Chinese and we both played War thunder). I'm actually on the content creator program for this game, and it creates massive headaches for Gaijin staff 😅. I'm currently trying to go through the FOIA process for some 1986 manuals of the F-15A/B/C/D to get them declassified, and I've been told in no uncertain terms that I cannot under any circumstances post the documents to the forums until I have paper documentation showing they're fine, even though I've been told verbally and by email that I'm fine to download and use them. It's a total mess😂. I don't blame them at all though.

honestly as a war thunder player one of the big reasons i see for players being very passionate about the tanks in game is how LONG nad GRUELING the grind in the game is, it took me around 500 hours to get to the first m1 abrams variant and now i have 2000 hours and still haven't fully completed the american tech tree

Yeah, I'd almost be convinced this was a very elaborate intelligence operation if it wasn't so universal in its harm. Really the only entities I could see benefiting at this point are the Taliban, certain rebel groups in the Congo and Yemen, or *maybe* the DPRK (but even that's iffy, they use Chinese gear and need to keep China happy to continue existing). And of those, who could realistically pull this off? Probably none of them, even the DPRK's cyberintelligence operations don't have the resources to put a full AA game together.

For US military acronyms, many can be treated as their own words, like the AIM-120 AMRAAM or WSO, which can be worded out as wizzo. Or ITAR, which can just be worded as "eye tar." So, while the acronym is long, treating them as words can greatly speed things up. Case in point, AMRAAM can be shortened to "Am-Ram."

One mistake i have to say. Challenger 2 cannot fire standard NATO amunition. It has rifled barrel as opposed to NATO smoothbore

There is an upgrade package that replaces the gun. It isn't installed at the moment, but there are guns in storage to do so if the need arises.

@@DERP_Squad there is only prototype of smoothbore gun but it was never accepted as modernisation of Challenger 2. Challenger 2s in service will simply never have one. Primarly because British army has already signed contract on Challenger 3 which will use NATO standard smoothbore Rh120 in L55A1 variant. They have no need to change a gun on tank the will put out of service within the end of this decade.

As a war thunder veteran its funny seeing a video like this soo late after its a shame cuz the old forums got closed down and a lot of info is no longer available however there is more information about it in the debts of WT community. If i remember right the guy ended up being a mechanic on the tank and was punished. There also were changes to the challengers much later.

In regards to the Tiger thing, the guy was trying to argue about its toughness in comparison to the Ka-50 and Ka-52. His ah... source was as you gleaned about the armor layout ,and more specifically the thicknesses around certain areas that in game are very fragile against proximity detonated munitions when the Ka-50 and Ka-52 would survive the same hit. He was very unhappy about being constantly taken out by Iglas in the helicopter vs helicopter mode.

The LeClerc turret speed leak has always been my favorite. Becayse it was for the absolutely *stupidest* little slap fight to release some *understandably* classified data (uh, rotation speed is *super* useful for planning ambushes of said tanks...)

It's completely irrelevant man... there's eyes everywhere, there's ears everywhere, a NATO country doesn't get it's tanks ambushed. Even so, a few degrees a second is utterly irrelevant... tank fights are not like in warthunder at all. They're a completely different thing. 20 or 30 or 40 degrees a second doesn't matter. a 20 vs 40 deg/s rotation in an oh so critical "ambush" would literally mean 1-2 seconds extra... nothing happens in 1-2 seconds in the army. Plus you can find leclerc videos on youtube and it's very easy to deduce the rotation speed so oh noooooo what a critical leak :O

The main issue is that Gaijin refuses to use anything but "official" documents to change their game, for the most part. Not only that, but they usually require at least two or three different sources before they make a change. So, when they don't accept things like actual video of a tank reversing a lot faster than it does in the game, or well regarded publications, people start digging for classified documents out of pure desperation.

@@Blorb137 that might be because Gaijin doesn't want to have an extremely awkward conversation with a foreign intelligence service as to why a vehicle is performing suspiciously close to what a classified manual that they shouldn't have access to says it should. This is with one of the best documented tnakammunition foire form one of the best documented tank guns(because theys were not only published by their makers, but examined to death by the US, the UK and soviets) in the world *cue Top Gear jingle*

Challenger 2 has a Smoothbore variant. Called: Challenger CLIP. (Challenger Lethality Improvement Program, why the fuck is this name redundant? No idea) which replaces it's barrel for a German one, the ones used by Leopard 2. So that it can fire Standard NATO rounds. And this shit has been common knowledge that doesn't need declassification. This shit is also outdated as well so brits are back with using Rifled barrels.

It's worth mentioning that all these leaks are merely on the official War Thunder sites. If you wander on off to any of the Discord communities, you can find a person that'll hold all of these and more documents within minutes of asking around and God knows it's also probably going to be a DCS enjoyer. Also, the funny thing about a couple of the leaks is that the F-15, Eurofighter Typhoon or even the Su-57 are not in the game yet. And the 57 is a genuinely tragic aircraft, from the woodscrews used to hold the wings together, to the missile bay that can't hold any missiles, it's a sad bird.

The only tragic thing here is your uttur cluelessness. 1st if you can see rivets on most stealth aircraft even on the overrated f35. 2nd the missile bay works, there is no report of that not working. I play Warthunder from time to time, and i remember this thing about the Challenger leaks. I remember seeing posts on the forum that had pictures of the actual guy, he was a young person in his early 20s but the posts were removed within minutes most of the times fortunately. What happened to him? Well, the rumors was that he was indeed persecuted, but my memory about this whole ordeal is hazy at best and i can't remember the details... During the time i wasn't really active in the Warthunder community and i simply jumped in and read what i could once the news reached me from the subreddit.
