According to Rebecca Sugar, in the original idea the Gems had secret identities and they had a whole thing with the government, but after getting some advice from cool people in the industry, she decided to simplify and trim the fat.

i think it would've been so interesting if they ended up including that, it rlly bugs me that they have whole ass alien invasions that cause serious collateral effects and the government doesnt even question it. i mean, at least nasa or an alternative version of that would notice the multiple alien ships invading earth. dont even get me started on the moon base that is easily observable by anyone with a telescope. of course technically nanefua (and formerly dewy) are part of the local government, but i mean more on like a federal level

@@glitteryvomittthis would be more realistic if it weren’t for the fact that gems have been on earth for literally thousands of years. Humans have been living with gems since the dawn of their civilization. There would be no need for government action or intervention, it would be a basic part of life. Like I could understand if the gems arrived in the 40s or something but no.

Sadie and Lars are actually really old OCs of Rebecca Sugar's which long pre-date Steven Universe's creation. It's actually really cool to me how she reused them for this project and really developed them through the series because of that

I love going back and rewatching the debut of it at the con, it's a recording from the audience and the roar after Yellow Diamond looks back is still magical.

46:10 y'all should watch the ComicCon reaction to the premiere of the extended intro (I believe it happened before Season 2's premiere? Iirc) - it was the first ever glimpse we got of Yellow Diamond. I'm amazed the building survived the ERUPTION from the crowd when she turned her head to glare.

Not only is Steven eating chips instead of chaaaaaps in the pilot, it's a specific brand of chips thats instantly recognizable to anyone from the mid-Atlantic region (which is where the Delmarva Peninsula is IRL): Utz. The little girl's face on the bag is a dead giveaway. (They make the best cheese popcorn, and the best bbq chips.)

I can just imagine Rebecca pitching the show with the pilot and nervously watching the people watch the pilot and hoping that it will get highlighted. It must have been so awesome to hear that they would be able to proceed

No one really see the shorts!!! I'm so excited!!! Edit: I get that the point is inspire and make people feel better about themselves, but Stevonnie does have a power that Steven doesn't (besides growing a beard), Steven is never shown to be able to actually propel himself in the air as Stevonnie does when training, Steven just jumps high, Stevonnie can second jump! Also this will be movie and future spoiler free so that's all I'm gonna say

So, the funny thing about Rebecca is that she's petty with her geography. My personal favorite is that in their universe, Russia has a GIANT hole in the middle of it 😂 But y'all asked about the state they're in. They live in what is called Delmarva, which is a real life term that refers to Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Which makes sense, because there are only 39 states in SU's America, which is mentioned in Future. (Also, there were 11 Confederate States 👀) But Beach City is specifically based on a place from Rebecca's childhood in Delaware, and is a combination of the real life places Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, and Dewey Beach. Also, the state Greg, Garnet, and Steven traveled to in Keystone Motel is called Keystone, which is based on Pennsylvania. If you want to observe more of their world's geography, you should look up the moon base map from "It Could Have Been Great" and see what changes were made to the world.

The thing they're fighting in the unboxing video is the slinker, the thing corrupted gem that kept poofing amethyst in the ep "reformed"

great vid as always. i would think it would be awesome for you guys to check out SUs sister show OKKO after you guys are done with SU furure. that show was made by Ian Jones-Quartey (my personal hero) who is a person that is pretty important to this shows production and history and i think you guys would like it a lot honestly. much love!

they live in a made up state called “delmarva” i think, basically a mix of Delaware and a few other states in New England :)

Delmarva is a real place! It's a peninsula that's split amongst three real-world states: DELaware, MARyland, and VirginiA. They just made it into a real state, the way they have "Keystone" instead of Pennsylvania and Empire City instead of New York City.

I actually think Steven in the pilot is the most dissimilar to the actual show version. Steven in the actual show had a very one sided friendship with Lars for the first few seasons, where as in the pilot, it seems like they’re both actively antagonistic towards each other. I don’t think I could see show Steven trying to dig into someone like his pilot counterpart.
