This is from a Toyota owner that owned a Tundra limited and runs tacomas for my business, but now runs Ford f150's on the larger trucks. And the minivan engine did not sell me either. It was a dog! However, I did like the overall size and shape of the truck. Fast forward a few years, and I have a 2020 Ranger sitting in my driveway! The 2.3L EcoBoost's 310 ft-lbs gives it some punch, and the 10R80 transmission seems to take full advantage of it. The Ranger will not outlast the Tacoma the Tacoma V6 is tried and true and easily able to put 300,000 miles on those motors on a consistent basis. The Ranger on the other hand is using a four-cylinder turbo which in the long run will not last as V6. When you add a turbo and ask a four-cylinder to do the work of six cylinders the rule of thumb is a star that burns twice as bright burns out twice as fast that motor will be garbage at 100,000 miles

Ah yes, the same debate as always for a person seeing other trucks in a spec sheet a lot of trucks look way better than a Tacoma, with better mileage more towing and even interior because essentially Tacoma's are the same trucks for a extended time of year. But that's what makes Toyota trucks great and with loyal customers. if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality... with reliability over features. so while you make your new purchase Toyota owners don't mind the older interior, the higher gas mileage because that taco is ruining over 200 thousand miles if serviced properly, and having that peace of mind your trucks isn't giving up on you is everything....little ramble from a happy FJ cruiser owner 👍

I bought my ranger a few weeks back, a 2020 XLT Fx4 and I could not be happier. Smooth on pavement and strong off it. Comfier cabin than the Tacoma I test drove, more spacious with very similar features. Tough and reliable so far.

You are wrong. I traded my 2016 Tacoma SR5 double cab for a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT crew cab. The back seat area in the Ranger is a bit smaller than the Tacoma.

So, I own a '09 Taco, 4 cyl. SR5. Great 4X4 for what it is. Tacoma's are hard to beat - best in class value holding even though some are pricey. My work took possession of a new Ranger a year ago. We have about 6K on it with no problems so far. I will say, the Ranger is punchy. That Turbo wants to go all the time but you don't have to engage it unless you need to step on it. I agree with most comments here about value, durability, etc. Although, once you research the Ranger you'll find it's not a totally new truck that's not proven itself durable. Look at how they use this model in Australia and actually prefer it over the venerable Hilux. So, will it hold it's value like a Taco? I doubt it. If a person isn't a die-hard Toyo driver, it's a good option so long as you get a better deal. The Ranger is a solid truck and I've been impressed with my few thousand miles I've driven it.

Because it tows a little more? Who buys a mid sized if you're actually towing anything heavy? Has mileage is negligible especially if you drive both hard the the turbo is going to burn more gas.. fact. The Tacoma is PROVEN more reliable and better off road (trd models) with a much higher resale value and has an aftermarket that's much larger then the Ford. There's reviews that say the ranger ranks last behind all the mids so I'd take this whole review with a grain of salt..

I guess it depends on what you want to use the truck for... only urban driving/hauling/off road. My opinion is that if hauling is what you need, buy a full sized truck. If urban driving and fuel economy are your most important things, maybe don't buy a truck. If you like off roading, the Tacoma is the way to go. Also, how to the resell values compare between the 2 trucks?
