EVERYONE HATES FLY FISHERMEN.

When did the fly fisherman become the butt of all other anglers jokes and why is it not considered to be one of, if not the most effective way to target a multitude of fish species. Why is it that amongst anglers that fish fly this technique is socially acceptable and to call yourself a fly fisherman is a badge of honour yet you go on social media and the fly fishermen memes and jokes are endless. To be fair fly fisherman do covet certain species and believe that they can and should only be targeted with the long wand. They'll also deck themselves out in expensive attire, spend countless hours alone tying flies, possibly going a little cuckoo and believe that their form of fishing is the purist of all. Meanwhile here in Australia I've got a cheap arse combo chasing a species that isn't coveted and is quite frankly despised by all. But for those in the know it is possibly one of the most challenging and rewarding target species with a fly rod we have to offer locally.

i Remember as a kid they held the carp busters over the Easter Long weekend at the Beaudesert Racecourse Good times. Silly they stopped it. They used to get skip bins full of carp.

It evolved into the LAFMA Pest Fish Eradication Comp held yesterday at Wyaralong Dam. We filled two fish bins with carp and tilapia, biggest carp went 4.4kg and biggest tilapia was 2.43kg. Total fish removed from the dam was just shy of 1500 mate.

Good one mate enjoyed that one👍👍👍👍👍👍 me and young bloke went out there one afternoon a few months ago and got 30 odd tilapia and about half a dozen bass and run out of worms in a hour went the following weekend with him and the Mrs and they got 20 odd tilapia and about 10 bass and a few spangled perch. @@LiamFitzpatrick oh right... yeah, guilty of spending days tying fancy flies. The expensive gear thing, I never understood - functional fly gear is really all most people need. I've lost count of the number of milkfish I caught on a $33 fiberglass flyrod and a $35 click-pawl reel. There's so much technique in it all, that I rarely feel spending over $1000 on a rod is justified beyond someone just wanting one. Still, a lot of people will spend almost $1000 on combos for bream, so people will be people...

Hey fun vid I think they should allow bow fishing for noxious pests when you see carp and tilapia schooled up in creeks and bays I reckon it would be like shooting fish in a barrel plus I think it would put a greater dent in population than line fishing especially if comps were organised for them

Mate we put forward a proposal to Fisheries over a year ago when they made it legal to do so in NSW fresh water. We suggested following suit but got nowhere with it. That was through LAFMA and we suggested using Wyaralong as a trial location.
