That awkward moment when you're the child of a British father and a Filipino mother 😂😭 Having spent my time between both the UK and the Philippines (I now currently reside in the UK), I can definitely confirm that there are soooo many white men who exploit Filipino women in this way. Just because she learned 3 sentences doesn't necessarily mean she learned the language. (But maybe she did learn it and it was made explicit in the episode.) And with Sean/Shuntaro there might be a chance that his English isn't good enough to explain more complex things, situations etc. 90DF has a tendency to not hire interpreters or people that can speak the foreigner's language so the foreigners are often forced to use a language they're not perfect in. (Doesn't make him less shady for lying about his age etc., though.)

As someone who's Filipino but grew up abroad, I've seen plenty of Pinoys who went through dehumanizing relationships with their Western partners (even within my family). Especially women. Is it standard practice to date an Asian woman, to use them for one's benefit? Because it seems to run in the blood. It's disgusting. I used to work at a fast food restaurant and the number of men who told me that Filipino women are "exotic" and "great at housework" when I told them about my ethnicity - as if it would turn me on. I'm an Irish guy in a long term relationship with a Filipina woman. We met in school and were best friends for a time before we started dating. Seeing this Richard guy boils my blood. I've been to the Philippines and gotten the death stare from a few local dudes who must have assumed I was like him. It sucks knowing dudes like this are the reason why.
