Yup. I like to compare it to that movie Commando, with Arnold S. We know who Arnie is. We've all seen what he does in his movies. Commando is one of the MOST Arnie movies you can watch. It knows what it is, and it goes all in on it. Eminence in Shadow is very much the same. It knows what it is, and it goes all in on it.

Something I love about Minoru's (the protagonist before being isekai'd) introduction is that, before we learn about his training, you can see the weighs on his wrist when he was puuting his shoes in the locker. Also, those shoes are not normal, based on the sound they make as he puts them in in the locker.

A thing I like a lot about eminence is that even with cid's character being one heck of nutshell, in emotional or dramatic moments, the other characters can pull the weight all by themselves and make the scene still be impactful and not very goofy with cid's monologue and other shenanigans he does.

You confused the VA's for Alexia and Iris, its Alexia's VA who did Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer, Iris' VA did Freya from Danmachi and Rias Gremory from Highschool DxD. Also Win 159 is even more impressive if you consider that the device is made from slime so he's training his magic at the same time as physical training, and since its made from slime he can make it much stiffer than it would be from a real one.

This anime was great. I had already read the mange AND am reading the LN. While the show did something things oddly in my opinion, the stuff it did focus on was just crisp. The way the cities all feel so real and lived in. I knew it was gonna get so many scenery shot wins because there are so many damn good scenery shots too. You definitely missed a few of the obscure things said/alluded to based on some of the wins you mentioned, but with a story as purposefully convoluted and just plain stupid as this one can be, its not a surprise. Now, between 86 Part 2 and this one's part 2 I am gonna be on the edge of my seat waiting for you now you sadistic bastard!

Every anime season, there are one or two shows that catch my eye and I look farward to watching after work. Then there is Shadow in Immenance. It wasn't just the highlight of two seasons of anime, it was my weekly high point when life was rough. It felt like my life revolved around the show. It felt like when I first watched Code Gueas, which changed my opinion of what anime was. Or when I first watched Fate Stay Night, and marveled at how great anime could look. Or when Attack on Titan started, and that convinced me that anime had evolved yet again and reached a new level. Violet Evergarden had a similar effect on me. Is Eminance in Shadow on the same level as those greats? No. But it was way more fun than any of them. Many reviewers just use visuals, plot, and audio as a means of reviewing anime, but some remember the fourth, fun factor. And this show has perhaps more fun factor than any anime in recent memory. So, maybe it can stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the greats. Can't wait for season 2.

42:44 you gave it a win for the cat, but that was the scene when i fell in love with this anime: Very important stuff happening and important stuff is being said, but it just becomes background noise for other things like the maid playing with the cat (happens again later during that arena fight when the guy loses all his money and is dragged away screaming while "important conversation" happens in the background. Brilliant :D Also why does noone ever mention the fact that Cid that at 24:07 removes half a city, potentioinally killing thousands, just because he wanted to be Extra. Okay, to be fair his bullshit power of prediction probably made it so the whole area was clear, but still. x)

I really liked Eminence in Shadow but I missed about half the wins you pointed out, as I missed lots of the animation details like him moving in the background of the falling locket scene or just the sheer beauty, scale, and number of scenery shots done well. Like I need to rewatch this as a whole anime again so I can try to appreciate it in it's entirety instead of apparently appreciating maybe half of the anime.

These bad guy reveals dont work most of the time for me, just because they tend to use the same VA and just lightly distort it as done here. I am fooled by the reveals where the Bad Guy actually uses a different VA and you cannto trace it by the sound of the voice itself.

I am atomic. This show is so fun, really love beeing "inside" Cid's mind with what he's doing and thinking. And I love how much he managed to build up with the Shadow Garden and he don't even realise it himself

The Eminence in Shadow is the fullfillment of everyones powerfantasy dream, thats why it's so good. They don't show us only the edgy cool epic things, but also show us the comedy and the ''behind the scenes'' stuff, basically encapsulating everyones though process as if they where in his shoes.

There's a saying in table-top RPGs that a good dungeon master borrows ideas from books, movies, or even songs, but a great DM steals ideas from the players. Cid makes up the whole Cult of Diablos, but the DM, god, or whatever, says, "That's a great idea! Think I'll steal it."

What's ironic as hell is a LOT of people complain how isekais don't always let us see a bit of the main hero's daily life, thus not really helping to highlight yes this is a person not from this other world and that there is a point they got isekai beyond "teehee we gods fucked up here's UNLIMITED POWAAAAA and a harem." EiS even highlights that BECAUSE of the protagonist's craziness and devotion to this weird dream of he he sorta earns the right to be the true hero but rejects it. Wanting to be Racer X instead of Speed Racer, if you will.

PS I'm about a minute further in the vid now (typing these as I watch), and I must confess that I legit didn't make the connection between the kidnapper asking about Cid and the rumors he healed Claire's possession, and what was later revealed about just why he was with the Cult of Diablos in the first place. Which is embarrassing considering the scenes happen almost back to back. That was honestly a brilliant piece of character and world building.

the light novel is also hilarious espacially the part he was in the forest pre reincarnatin xD here is the light novel version of what he did there: "When I’m in the thick of it, I rip off every single article of clothing and get buck naked in the forest. It makes me one with the universe. I bash my skull into the trunk of a giant tree to physically force out my worldly thoughts. Plus, it stimulates my brain and urges my latent powers to awaken. You didn't give a win to the cool voice effect moments. 0/10 I think it'd be cool if that scene of Barnetts POV of his final moments meant that he realized that Shadow was Cid just before he died, and that Sherry's vague "I swear, I swear" thing is actually that she swears she'll resurrect her dad, instead of swearing to kill Shadow which is what I think the show wants us to think. Then he can cause interesting problems.

Something else I find funny is I noticed this if you watch the show, people read magic are usually using artefacts or something to boost their power peoples blue magic used nothing it’s just they’re basic magic and then he has purple magic. I could be wrong, but that’s what it looks like to me.
