Matt, do you change your meal macros depending upon where you are in training/season? Is there something different you would do say, if you needed to recover from a soft tissue injury, or were in a phase where you were targeted putting on muscle versus just recovery and endurance work? I am recovery from a hamstring injury and wondering if there is something I should or should not be eating/doing to promote healing and recovery.

A little bit, but generally I eat pretty similarly no matter regardless of the time of year or situation. I just focus on getting a ton of calories in... and specifcally I focus on getting a ton of high quality protein, a decent amount of carbs, and decent amount of healthy fats. In offseason I cheat a bit more and allow myself to eat a lot more unhealthy carbs/fats especially during the holidays, but I still always try to keep the protein very high. The only time I really change is on game days... that's when I'll shift to a bit less protein, less fat, and a lot more simply carbohydrates. Honestly, I just weigh myself every single morning and try to make sure that I'm within my goal weight range of 165-170 lbs while in season and between 170-175 while in offseason. If I'm not in that range then I'll adjust my total calories accordingly.

Those calorie trackers half been known to be about half off. No way you think you've burned 400 calories. An hour of dog walking is about 200 calories give or take. A walk at the zoo is similar. So yup. Calorie trackers are always off. For my daily morning jogs i burn 400 calories per hour. For my own soccer training i run/jog a bare minimum of at least 50 miles per week. And do intense explosive drills on a separate time. Cross country athletes train close to 100 miles per week and burn 500 calories per hour. Just to put into more perspective... 400 zoo walking calories per hour 😂 this guy

Hey 👋 I played today and I'm sore on my knees and ankles we have a game tomorrow too so I'm wondering how do you recover after matches? I think I'm going to start doing atg stuff so I can stabilize my weak joints! Also how do you balance playing soccer and working out for us after we have 2 team sessions a week with day in between now i want to train those days but I feel i need to rest on those days so I don't overexert myself for the next team session. How do you manage getting multiple sessions in what does your scheduling look like?

@-notmeddy1167 In most cases, typical soreness comes from the body not being used to the physical demand from not having basic conditioning for the activity. Think about your first time at the gym working out. Everyone comes out sore their first time. But as you do the same physical demand regularly and with rest you don't get sore. The reason you're most likely sore from a game is because you don't do cardio and conditioning outside of matches. Incorporate some daily easy jogs for half hour or so and then slowly increase time at a comforts pace. It builds lung capacity and leg strength. Also helps with bone dexterity so your joint get better adapted. And only do explosive cardio sparingly. I actually would advise to stay away from it if you don't have the fitness built from doing daily easy runs. As far as your training session goes. Twice a week is very light. Most of your sessions are just going to be working with the ball anyways. You'll rarely ever be physically tested during training sessions. So you can do the gym outside and work on cardio on every given day practically. My person training session goes like this. And I only have 1 team training session. And 1 match every week. First. Morning run 7 miles everyday. School. Gym 30min or so every other day. Evening run 3 miles every day. Evening ball training 30min to 1hr. Ball training every other day about 1hr Total miles ran per week: +70 miles. Total time at the gym per week: about 2hrs. Total time ball training per week: about 4hrs Total miles run on match day: about 15km. More than Barclays Premier league players. Yes sir, my fitness is top 1% of top professional footballers. Run, run, run. The thinnest soccer players in the world were the best GOAT players starting. Messi, ronaldo, neymar, ronaldinho all thin! NO MUSCLE

@-notmeddy1167 I eat 3-5 times a day. And I try my best to make sure I get enough protein in each meal per pound of my body weight. My typical protein choices are eggs, chicken, fish, and ground beef or steak. In that order of preference My diet isn't perfect though. Nor must you have it perfect. A balanced diet is more than fine. Those protein servings per each meal help a lot with muscle growth. And I just try to take advantage of it as much as I can. I don't believe in strict diets also. Maybe having 10% of junk food or even 20% of it can be fine. It's whatever works best for you! As long it's balanced with clean healthy foods. In order of importance, I'd say it's eating mostly healthy. Second, eating enough rather than under eating. And always make sure you're staying hydrated with plenty of water
