If you follow the entire lyrics to the end, you will discover that the song is her recovery from the depths of her dreadful dream to finding love and support. It is very uplifting.

I'm glad you noticed the harmonies. They were talking out it in a Howard Stern interview. Finneas said Billie is some sort of genius at creating and singing harmonies. She just does it naturally and didn't realise it was a gift until other people started pointing it out to her. She thought everyone could do it lol. The backing vocals are incredibly creative on her album too.

It is true, if they knew that all their words and actions would scar me deeply, would they say something else? "I tried to scream, but my head was underwater" When you have an emotional breakdown and you cry nonstop, and you feel like you are physically drowing, I feel like that, so that line really hit me. "Nobody cried, nobody even noticed." I went through horrible anxiety and a bit of depresion when I was in the 6th to 7th grade. People would see me be nervous, sweating, and even tearing, I would go to the bathrooms and cry, but nobody noticed how fake my damn smiles were.

the song basically is about her having a bad dream about her killing herself by jumping off the golden gate bridge, in the dream no one cared. when she woke up finneas was there for her like always, so the song is also about the relationship with her brother. at the time when her mental health was very bad that dream was “everything she wanted” but recently she talks a lot about finally being genuinely happy with herself and her life and her mental health so that is good!

It's a beautiful song and the lyrics are wonderful, but yeah I def. am conflicted. It's equal parts heart-breaking, since she says she wrote this about an actual nightmare she had of jumping from the Golden Gate and finding out the public didn't care as much as they let on, but also it's heart-fixing because the supportive person she's talking about in the song is her brother Finneas, who's been working with Billie and writing with her since the beginning. (He's also the sole songwriter behind "Ocean Eyes," "watch", "When the Party's Over", and "my strange addiction"). I think we can all agree we just want Billie to be happy, and I'm glad she has Finneas by her side to keep her grounded over the course of her journey.

This song broke my heart but it’s also so beautiful idk. I hope everything is okay with her and she’s taking care of her mental health 💙
