Haven't played osu! for a while, but just wanna say thank you to ppy, the dev team, and all other support/moderation stuff currently working on the game. It's rare to find devs that are so active and have such an easy, direct line of communication with the community, especially when some members of the community have treated them like shit for years. I really wish osu had a practice mode. As someone coming from clone hero where all you need to do is pause, hit practice and then you can go to any section of the song and easily speed up or slow down that practice section as you want, Osu practicing seems really annoying in comparison. From what little research I did, you need to literally create a whole new map with a specific speed if you want to practice a specific section. In clone hero, what I often did on sections I found hard was practice it at 50% speed till I could FC it a few times in a row, then I bump up the speed to 55% and keep increasing it until I aced the section at full speed or even higher speeds. I really want this practice because in osumania, I really want to practice a few chord changes that my fingers are having trouble with, but it is such a pain to do.

@@Kuzamori lazer is already ready, its just getting better and furnished by the day, so you can switch anytime(or use both clients). also when you install lazer, it gives you the option to import your "things" from stable(i assume you mean stuff like beatmaps and skins), so you won't lose them

@@Coppertine_ And just to clarify for people who may be confused: The filenames in lazer are based on the contents of those files, so if two files have the exact same contents they'll have the same name. This is how lazer removes duplicate files and ends up saving space.

fun fact: ducking the volume based on another input is called sidechaining, it's used in many many tracks (electronic especially) to duck the instruments when the kick plays to make room for it (especially important with a fat kick mixed with a fat bass).

I really like the built in skin editor, but my one request is for the mania playfield (the thing with the notes, I don't really know what it's actually called) to be customizable. i.e. scaling (especially the "special" a.k.a the spacebar key) , adding, removing, and moving components of the playfield (not necessary, but the ability to move each key for 1k 2k 3k 4k etc.. would be nice).

tournament players would like to argue otherwise. the editor still doesnt feel great (even though its getting there), so mappers aint having the best time with it atm. Skinning is a nightmare, especially since they are reworking everything all the time in terms of UI + UI skinning isnt even possible afaik. Hitsounding is kind of in the mud. But they're fixing that. I'm not a storyboarder, cant speak for them. For just regular carefree playing? It probably works just fine.

@@Lunethia Even for regular carefree playing, Lazer does not yet have feature parity to stable... And having to play Classic mod to not gain less pp than stable is also annoying to a lot of people. Together with not being able to reduce the UI in song select or hide the leaderboard during multiplayer, this creates a mix where Lazer inconveniences every stable player at least to some degree... Not to mention that major tools like Rewind and Collection manager do just not support lazer at all. For my part i like Lazer. But everyone i want to convince to also hop on Lazer has something that they are not liking.

i will switch to lazer when plays set with the classic mod show on my osu profile without enabling lazer mode, and without displaying the classic mod (so basically setting a score on lazer as if you did it on stable)

a practice mode similar to guitar hero could be useful, for older maps it would split the sections by an algorithm that checks where the transition from the verse and chorus is. Mappers can set there own sections with names and stuff

On clone hero, the sections are mod set, but it is really easy to set your own "A" and "B" which basically makes your own section to practice.

I think peppy described it pretty well why its a burden. They want to redesign most of the UI and a button that rises the footer section just introduces issues. So they try to make it as solid as possible, by moving the Customizations to its own Dropdown in the top right. I would have moved each Customization as a dropdown inside the Mod in the selection, but the devs prob alr thought about that and its weaknesses compared to the current implementation

im not a mapper but these are somegood changes. the only thing i would really want to see is when you speed up a song with dt and mod modifications and dont have it on 1.5 speed, it would still be ranked. a good start to do so if you cant do all at once would be ranking every 0.1 speed increase.

Something I miss is a game mode that would mark the transition to lazer. Talking about innovation, I know (for lazer) the community can create their own game modes, but the official modes have been the same for over a decade. With the introduction of fun modes (3D Depth, Transform, Approach Different, etc.), I miss a more radical change in gameplay that would be interesting without giving up ranking to be able to have fun with a different way of playing.

Im already considering fully migrating to lazer. It feels so much better than stable. Annoying thing is importing beat maps from stable everytime, since i dont want to lose them if i dont want to fully move. why does lazer force you to import EVERY map and not just scan for ones they dont have?

Because stable doesn't have a song database like lazer's and there's no way to know what you already have in lazer without looking in all files from stable. Scanning for maps you don't have in lazer requires to read all files in stable (including audio, video, images and any other stuff, because of possible changes), and that's what lazer is already doing by importing all maps.

I was wondering if something like custom player beatmap packs and a browser for that would be possible. Like how steam has curators for games, we can have players that curate specific beatmaps! I feel like that would be a nice little subcommunity. However I can see a large developmental effort needed for that so I'd understand why no one wants to do it (I'd do it but I don't feel like learning C# lol)
