The rocks pirates likely had one job planned after god valley but needed the firepower to pull it off. Rocks fought garp and Roger and then ate the darkness fruit because he thought it would give him the power needed but didn't know about the pain amplification quality. This results in him begging for mercy as he dies from a gunshot to the back a cowards blow from a celestial dragon with a gun which is why kaido looks at his defeat the way he does and puts such emphasis on dying right and why white beard had similar beliefs about cowards wounds and being a man in death. This would also explain why garp hates celestial dragons so much as he was going to show mercy and arrest rocks but the dragon just murdered him in cold blood as he begged for his life.

The only issue I have with the while "Blackbeard being Rocks" thing is the fact that he was on Whitebeard's crew for years. I think you are right about this, especially with the recent release of the One Piece Live Action. Coby was surprsingly kept in the story, despite his time in the marine's being a coverstory in the manga. That combined with Garp being present for Rodger's execution (he was not in the manga), really adds to the Coby/Garp, Luffy/Rodger parallel. It makes me wonder what Rodger's and Garp's first interaction ever was like. It would be interesting if it paralleled Luffy and Coby's first meeting, Rodger inspiring Garp to follow his dream.

Rocks D Xebec’s DF must have been the Yami Yami no Mi I bet. The power to nullify other devil fruits was beaten by the two strongest known non DF users Garp and Roger who allied unwillingly with no choice probably because they were the only two people in the world that were capable of stopping Xebec and the celestial dragons somehow got involved which is another missing piece to the puzzle Also Blackbeard is probably his son or related to him somehow and made it his early life mission to get the Yami Yami no Mi by whatever means necessary. He’s the same age as 2 years after God Valley, so would make sense that he was orphaned at 2 years old after Xebec died and Newgate picked him up shortly after perhaps because he wanted to raise Blackbeard to be pirate king as he had the will of D to destroy the world government but not king of the world on top of the WG like Imu is which is like his father Xebec wanted. His ship also is called the saber of Xebec so that is obviously a huge foreshadow of some link between the two

Theory: Blackbeard as you may know is 40 years old while shanks is 39 and they were on roger and whitebeards crews. So on god valley we know that shanks was found by roger as a baby of probably 1-2 years. I believe that Blackbeard was also a baby of 2-3 years at godvalley. I believe that shanks and Blackbeard are both children of xebec, shanks being so young would have zero memory of what happened at god valley and would be completely out of the picture to do anything, but Blackbeard who would be the first born would be slightly older and still likely incompetent but still older. I think that somehow xebec may have sent some sort of message or something that told Blackbeard to get the dark fruit, or he could have just given it too him before dying. So In the chaos Blackbeard stumbled across a leaving white beard and white beard took pity and let him go with them, Roger did the same for shanks in finding him.

I’m glad that you mentioned how Blackbeard recruited the prisoners of Impel Down by having them try to kill each other. Because I think that’s what Rocks D. Xebec was aiming for when he formed his own crew, considering how he was an obvious inspiration for Teach. You see, what Blackbeard did in Impel Down was actually based on the kodoku, a form of Japanese dark magic where a bunch of poisonous insects are kept in a jar until only one remained. The poison of that insect would then be used to cast a hex on someone. This was done under the belief that this one insect survived because its poison was the most potent of all, similar to how Blackbeard selected the surviving inmates. In addition to explaining why Rocks Pirates were such a toxic crew (no pun intended), it would go well with how their captain was said to partake in taboo practices. Not only did he study a subject that was forbidden by the World Government, but he was inspired by something that could be considered a crime against nature.

It's why I really doubt that Rocks D. Xerbec was ever an antagonist, I think he created the Davy Back Fight and that's how he got his crew, the reason why Big Mom back then didn't trust him was because he was too unpredictable and knowledgeable, and the last thing is some of the crew that we know of have parallels to the Straw Hat Crew, Kaido to Zoro, Whitebeard to Jimbei, Big Mom to Nami, Shiki to Sanji (ironic being that Shiki lost his legs) & Miss Buckin to Usopp.

Also I would like to add that I stick to the theory that Rocks D. Xerbec is Luffy's grunkle (great-uncle), and I'd picture Xerbec with Monkey D. Dragon's hair, the face of a 4th gear snakeman Luffy, a red shirt like Luffy's only with longer sleeves, a black coat draped over his shoulders, rolled up jeans and like Luffy sandals, that's how I picture Xerbec, he's a master of all 3 forms of Haki, and he does have the human human fruit model Nika what he barely uses until that fateful God valley incident, and like Luffy he's a hand-to-hand combatant, that's how I picture him.

I still believe the possibility of Rocks having the same missions as Dragon, or that Dragon inherit Rocks will. The only difference is that rocks is doing his mission using brute force, it is a fact that he went to god valley for one reason. I gotta be honest, from what we have gathered so far. I can only assume that Rocks was the equivalent of Captain Buggy in Roger's Days. He had strong crewmembers to get his status up. His crewmates are ashamed to even share the story (said by Sengoku). Why would they be ashamed after being part of the strongest villain's crew? You could say '' Oh he wanted to murder a bunch of celestial dragons '' Get out of here. XD Most likely yes but also might be because he was a weak joke who had great luck.
