I actually want to point something out. While "Us" has the style of a horror movie, this movie is actually meant to be a thriller, due to the amount of tense moments within it, also evidenced by the fact that young Adelaide gets a Thriller t-shirt at the beginning to symbolize the aspect of the movie.
@DaftnPunk Жыл бұрын
I think another thing that annoyed me with his “Us” sin is the fact that he failed to realize that the tethered would most likely be stronger and probably have a stronger pain tolerance after years of being tethered.

Just wanted to thank you for finally explaining something about movies that for decades would drive me crazy (I'm on the autism spectrum) - I never understood in non-fantasy movies like Us how things could be an allegory instead of literal. I didn't have an issue with the spinning amusement park ride scene, and I don't think I nit-picked details like CS did because I just loved the movie, but other movies really just would drive me crazy. Now that you've explained that, I think I'm going to go back and rewatch some of those and see if I feel differently about them. I really appreciate what you do here Birdman, and I was so excited to watch this Jordan Peele comp. Great video!

Has Jeremy never had the battery or alternator go out in his car? Headlights don’t flicker when power is slowly being lost, they just get dimmer until they (and the rest of the car) dies.

24:41 I’d never thought about these lines like that before, but…yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Just because “Adelaide” would want to be intimate, doesn’t mean the real Adelaide would’ve wanted to be intimate at the exact same time below the surface. She was trapped below the surface for like 2 decades of her life, waiting for the chance to reclaim her freedom. That would’ve come with 2 decades of being surrounded by nobody you could talk to-quite literally since none of the tethers can talk, except for “Adelaide”, who learned to from substituting in her life. Addy couldn’t have told any of the tethers (in this case, Abraham) to stop doing something she didn’t like or want to do, because they’re all mirroring what their surface counterparts are doing…that’s horrific and sickening 😨🤢 And again, since none of the tethers could talk, it would’ve ironically silenced Addy from being able to reach out for help, avenues like making a report to a police department, a hospital, working with a social worker, etc. She assumed the role of her tether for 20 years, in a world of silence…Honestly, forgive me for being a bit crass, but it makes the underworld sound like a sex-dungeon of an offender in a true crime case or something similar. Well done, Jordan Peele! I’ve a newfound appreciation from coming to understand another perspective of his work!

27:41 I just wanna say I rewatched this movie for October (and I’ve watched it at least 4 or 5 times) and it still absolutely is scary even when you know the twist. Seen all 3, and seen Nope twice. His films are AMAZING. You can tell Peele has put so much care in to making these films and genuinely enjoys them. There are things that you notice watching the second time that you’ll never notice the first time. A few examples: 1. In Get Out, the whole gardener thing being the runner. Rose being very fake. How she tried to not leave a paper trail! 2. In Us, there are hints that Red and Adelaide are switched. Like how Red is the only one who can talk (not just ‘she’s the leader so she talks’), Adelaide is slightly out of tune, how Adelaide knows IMMEDIATELY where the tethered tunnels are, and exactly how they work 3. In Nope, the cloud actually stays in place the whole time! And the whole Gordy’s Home thing, once you have the whole context you understand *everything*. TLDR You should watch Peele’s movies twice over. Watching the film for the horror first then for the excellent story is my favorite way to watch his movies. So much care in these movies

Us is the first movie in a long time that's terrified me. I only saw it for the first time a few months ago (largely because the trailer scared me so much), but I spent the next couple of weeks terrified that either Red or my own doppelganger was gonna come out of the shadows. The last time I felt that sort of fear was probably during a scary moment during a Disney film when I was a kid, as when I got into horror I usually wasn't that scared, mainly due to knowledge of the movie from pop culture, oftentimes from CinemaSins. Nope, while I've only seen it once, is my favorite of Peele's movies so far. The sibling dynamic between O.J. and Em reminded me so much of my sister and me, down to the styles of clothing they were wearing. Also, that Akira bike slide at the end was perfect. Get Out is also awesome. Figured I'd mention it since I talked about the other two so much.

14:51 It's almost as if Jeremy doesn't understand supply and demand... imagine that! 😅 When people who are expensive art dealers or antique collectors are looking for a specific piece. They let the curators know what they are looking for, and the curator finds the item. The curator would still put the piece up for auction and make the collector have to bid on it so they could get the highest price possible.

Nope is genuinely just. Such a good movie. Like… I’m white, so I absolutely went in knowing I wouldn’t get the nuance of a lot of it, and went in wanting to understand as much of it as I could anyways. I went with my best friend, who is black, and we were like the only ones in the theater so we talked about it as we watched, shared our thoughts on it. So like, not only is it a good freaking movie, it’s also one that I experienced with one of the people I enjoy being around most. And like… I don’t watch cinemasins anymore. I used to, because I wanted to know what horror movies were about without watching them because I was younger and squeamish. But this? The way he so clearly missed the point of nope, is… it’s impressive in a sad way

An interesting fact I recently learned. The original ending to get out was going to have the main character getting arrested at the end because he had no way of proving anything that happened. However, The george floyd incident and BLM started getting very public and Peele decided to redo the ending to give it a happier ending
@tamurmur Жыл бұрын
