Christians-especially evangelicals-tend to forget that Revelation is not a book, but a letter.A letter that was sent to specific people at a specific time and place(s).Someone read the letter and decided to elevate it to "inerrant" status-probably because of the promise of the afterlife and resurrection that it offers and the unrighteous getting their "just deserts." It's a bit like your neighbor stealing your letter to a significant other and pretending that it was meant for you to read and apply it to your life as though it was sent to you.Besides all this, there are many discrepancies ,inconsistencies, and contradictions in the letter, and it barely made it into the canon.

A good portion of the New Testament is comprised of Paul's supposed letters to people - he was not a contemporary to Jesus and his writings are filled with visions as well. The whole Bible is filled with discrepancies inconsistencies, and contradictions because it's a load of shit.

Yep, I remember back in the day in public school what with saying the loyalty oath to God and Government. We also did the "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer before nap time. "If I should die before I wake"??? That scared the crap out of me and I assure you I made sure I did not fall asleep in school. Sorry to hear about the cancer. Hopefully your doctors will be able to get a handle on it. I just lost a dear friend to cancer at age 60. Then again I have a couple of friends that had cancer and have now been cancer free for a number of years.

I'm about at 10 min The thing that is making me laugh.... So he opened the 7th seal, and they sat around waiting in heaven for a half hour. Then there was the nuclear tests, and weeks later the bombs on Hiroshima and Nakasaki, then 40 years later there is Chernobyl, and then 6 years later it's Saddam Hussain. But the big thing to point out is that they waited 1/2 hour before blowing the first trumpet. The 4th trumpet was 46 years later, but that first half hour of silence really was important.

Revelation simply reflects the biblical worldview in which the Sun is a small local sun and the Moon gave off its own light. So the biblical definitely thought that the Earth was flat. As for destroying just a third of something, how much time passed between each trumpet. Did god happen to let recover after each trumpet? All life would be destroyed after the forth trumpet so what are the other trumpets for? Is it just their god having tantrums? How big was this mountain and how did it only affect a third of the ships and a third of the rivers?

Of course the whole thing is about something local, long ago, described allegorically, like the (certainly terrible) events Josephus wrote about, when a million Jews were killed during the siege of Jerusalem in 66-70AD. Lots of damage and destruction. It must have been something back in that time. The book begins and ends with saying these events must happen soon. I like history, don't care about the religion. Maybe the writer saw it coming, or he wanted to let his readers believe that this was written before the events, just to show off... I don't know.

This is going to sound silly, but if you're even a little like me, this may be an.. eh... Godsend for you as well. Angels have long tails, and Angles have piggy tails. Angels end with the letter "l" and Angles have an "e", the piggy tail with the curls, unlike having an "l" at the end, the "l" is just a tail that angels have. The "L" and "E" confuses more often than I would like to admit. I hope this helps someone as much as it has helped me!

Focus more on the ways people who see this as literal prophecy interpret it and make jokes about that. For example,Wormwood. One must remember the people back then thought stars and meteors were the same thing,hence the term shooting star. The verse is saying a meteor is falling from space, shattering into just the right amount of pieces to land ONLY on a third of the freshwater on the planet and hitting nothing else. There is far more comedy potential in dissecting that. On a seperate note: Please don't forget to mention only a certain branch of Christians believe this is prophecy. Not all of them take their shit to this extreme. I feel we can have merit in comparison of that interpretation with the more interesting one of it being political commentary about Nero.
