This is sick.... These children are getting booed, they're kids, they don't know any better. The teens have obviously experienced trauma and they're getting heckled by the audience when they need professional help. And these domestic abuse victims are being humiliated while the audience is cheering. Seems like all these clips can be used in a court of law. Gross! Phobias are irrational fears, it doesn't make sense. They need therapy, not exposure to their fears on live TV. TRASH!

YES EXACTLY, no 7 year old is going to be saying things like the 7 year olds in this video unless they’ve been abused or exposed to sexual activity, not to mention how the teen girls blatantly expose how they’ve had sex with GROWN ASS MEN and the first thing Maury does is blame the girls. I don’t know, kinda makes me wonder what he does in his spare time.

I feel like those kids were COACHED. No kids are that vulgar or have that big of a grasp of vocabulary to even know what half the words they were saying meant. We know how kids are, they see older people laughing/enjoying what they are doing and enjoy the attention so they do it more and end up taking it too far. But it's really not their fault it's the people that were/are around them, allowing for that behavior to continue. Also how would they get the "sexy" clothes if the PARENTS WERENT BUYING THEM? I know when i was a kid my mother bought all my clothes up until middle school and even then if i wanted something "risky" i wouldn't have know how to get it bc my mother would shop with me until junior year. Like how are these kids getting the clothes? especially since they fit them normally, so it couldn't be older sibling etc. It's such a gross thought that the directors might have made them dress that way on top of coaching them, and traumatizing them. I wonder what they think ab it now bc they would be adults now, maybe a Danielle Bregoli situation?.

I don’t understand how the industry gets away with it. There’s no power for anyone to do anything but lots of us already agree with your points and want to speak. Like Dr. Phil, these places aren’t safe and manipulate the people they have to look like characters and exaggerate their faults. I believe the young girl who says she feels like 17 was probably conditioned, or scripted behind the scenes. I cannot imagine the coercion these kids must go through to end up in front of a live audience and millions of viewers to be publicly embarrassed in a way that doesn’t go away over time, and it’s not setting a good example or helping the audience. The domestic abuse segment was glorified on television instead of being redirected to the police or real councillors that could help them separate. I used to watch these shows as a kid but I didn’t realize that they were being deprived of resources that would actually help on a show that profits off of the pain. Again, it was never helping anyone.

It's the way he said "you won't let go of my hand" shortly before "bring out the olives" that really makes it hard not to laugh imo He knew she'd let go and the hilarity comes from the absurdity of him using olives to get her to. But she was clearly traumatized from her grandfather's death at a young age, that drives home how wrong that is. Her image of what happened not being real doesn't change it- this is a traumatic response from childhood and he's saying to bring out the olives like she's about to do a trick with em something. I wonder how he sleeps at night. Probably fine cuz he's clearly still making money this way but I winder if he ever fully say what he was doing and seriously considered stopping. And the fact that like at least 95% of those cases went home without a solution to their problems is crazy. Granted, all those people signed up for the show, and gave the show rights to use their content however they saw it benefited them the best; but wow dude, some people REALLY went there as a last attempt to fix their situations and it most likely made a lot of shit worse for those victims who were actually going through it… seeing those cases especially like the guy yelling at the lady to sit on the floor like a dog-makes me feel so aggressive and angry, that it makes me want to react with anger????? Like the way he treats his lady so poorly, makes me want to hunt him down and make him bleed so badly he never takes another breath???? And I don’t like that BECAUSE I DONT EVEN KNOW THESE PEOPLE??? I grew up watching Maury, mostly the DNA testing. Didn't care for the children or the cheating. I liked the talent show, and when they would bring the animals to show the kids. They also use to have a show when you have to guess if it was a man or woman. That's the first time I seen Sydney Starr, I thought she was a natural woman. I never knew they had kids that young on there.

I understand an initial reaction to some of these phobias is laughing, because they seem so outrageous to the vast majority of us. But it’s truly heartbreaking and further traumatizing, as you said. Just because we don’t ‘get it’, doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to ‘get’. I don’t get cream or sugar with my coffee, but that doesn’t mean someone else can’t. Love your videos, girl. Always so well thought out and presented, but never impersonal. 💜

Those Reddit descriptions are true! My cousin went on Maury with her best friend & her child's father. She just said they cooked up a story to tell & the show accepted them. The 500 bucks, redbull, producers hyping them, & free everything for the day that you're there is exactly what she said. Made me start thinking of something to go on with tbh 🤣🤣🤣🤣 *now you got me thinking about it again! 😂😂💀

Holy shit I remember my mom watching shows like this when I was a kid but never paying it much mind. The exploitation of children & victims of abuse is simply heartbreaking! I was a low income kid who "acted out" in ways that weren't age appropriate and instead of examining how/why I was in these situations, I was punished and publicly humiliated-- the trauma of that is honestly on par with some of the other things I was punished for. I can also add that as someone with an irrational fear that people frequently laugh at and minimize (driving), someone forcing me to drive (even if it's as small as putting my hand on the wheel or gear shift while they are driving) sends me into serious panic attacks

Let's talk about the fact that grown adults were mocking and booing a MISCARRIAGE. All because it was a supposed "wild teenager" who had it. Because trauma apparently isn't valid if the person who experienced it is of a certain demographic. I literally can't get over that.

Shaming a teenager for having had an std and two MISCARRIAGES instead of educating them and getting them the help they need, or shaming young girls for being raped is deplorable.

Completely deplorable. Looking back on former tv shows is one heck of a rabbit hole. At the time, it might have felt off, but still normal somewhat. With a nowadays perspective, absolutely nah.

I feel like these girls are acting out because they feel like they don’t get enough emotional support. I know when I was acting out it was because I wanted my family to care. I felt like the only way they ever cared was when I was acting out and even then they didn’t do much to help me. A lot of actions these girls are taking looks like extreme cries for help. I hope those girls grew up into wonderful women with the love they deserve. Not just random men who really don’t have those girls best interest at heart.

The clips with the little girls are so disgusting and disturbing. If a child is exhibiting very sexualized behavior at such a young age, nine times out of ten they were sexually abused (which includes being repeatedly exposed to pornographic material). These girls, and so many of the other “bad” kids on this show, needed a therapist rather than being shamed on TV.

Honestly, you can tell what the guests financial situation is like on these “talk shows”. Receiving any sort of medical help has always been costly for the average American. Most of these guests have been so damaged by their situations, they jump at the first opportunity to get help. And that opportunity could be “free therapy” with hosts like Maury and Dr. Phil. They don’t see that these hosts aren’t there to actually help them. They also don’t recognize these hosts aren’t specialized to care for them like a professional should.

I was on the Jenny Jones show back in 2001 and while I was standing behind the stage waiting to go out on the stage, her people were telling me to go out there screaming “ Y’all don’t know me”!!! and to act extra. I told her I couldn’t do that.. lol.. I literally walked out as fast as I could and sat down. I wasn’t having no part of looking like a damn fool. I was on the episode “ Cheating Husbands “. Where my husband and a few others took a lie detector test. Yep.. he was cheating. They paid for our hotel stay for 3 days, our flights and gave us a $350 stipend at the hotel to eat. They also gave us $100 each for missing work.

It’s blantly obvious that the people on this show are actors. No abuser will admit openly and brag that they are abusive, especially on national TV. However, I think this still problematic because people may develop the misconception that all abusers are like that. This is exactly why accurate protrayals of abusive relationships are important. Over the top, almost comical protrayals of abusive situations, like the ones on Maury, are not helping anyone and are disrespectful to people who are actually in abusive situations.

One thing I always hated about Maury and Steve after i learned about these lie detector tests.. they don't measure lies but change with normal behavior or reaction (internal and external) .. if the person is nervous they can fail even if innocent.. if the person is stoic (both internally and externally) they have the ability to pass. And what pissed me off is when the host yells" then why is the test saying this?" You know why.. it's possibly inaccurate and I'm sure it split apart many families or at least casted some trust issues.
