Great video. Love the cutaways! Now, not to be nit picky - and I know 2 cycle and 4 cycle have become part of the vernacular - but… they are both cycle engines (intake, compression, combustion and exhaust is the cycle.) One does it in 2 strokes of the piston, or one revolution. The other does it in 4 strokes of the piston, or two revolutions. So in a technical discussion, the terms 2 stroke and 4 stroke would have been more appropriate. Just a pet peeve of mine. I’m sure most people don’t care what you call them :)

@@TitoTellsTheTruth they have become synonymous in the vernacular, as have so many things through advertising, but they are both simply “cycle engines.” This cycle consists of intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. The engine completes that cycle over and over to deliver power. One way to think about it is that you can have a 2 stroke cycle engine or a 4 stroke cycle engine.

Iv’e used both 2 stroke stihl trimmet and the 4 mix engine and i have to say that i really like the 4 mix engine and all it’s plus sides but no one can argue that the 2 stroke is lighter and more powerfull

Hi mate, thank you for your video! I just bought a honda single shaft UMK425 4 stroke. What i realized is when i turned it upside down to do edging, the engine didn't like it and it stopped. I assume most gardeners use a 2-stroke whipper snipper to do their edging instead? I bought that honda thinking it will be able to perform the edging feature rather than swapping to an edger tool. Or am i missing something?

Hey I was worried about the same thing and have read similar things in reviews regarding the UMK, although I had a bloke from Honda call be back today regarding the use of the snip upside down and he said that the GX25 (engine in yours) and GX35 were designed to be used in any orientation. Their site also has the same claims. So if you bought it new see if they can tell you why it's happening or refund you.

Hey I had the same issue with the UMS425 (bent shaft) for me it was the choke switch was loose and closed off when I went to use it upside down. The plastic surrounding the choke switch/lever on mine is cracked and it appears that it relies on that to hold its position.

@@SnifterRoux I spoke with a rep for honda, the new hondas are all designed to be used in any orientation. But the extra weight definitely does have fatigue on you.

You said it use gasoline. Is there a version that use kerosene? Also isn't the 2 stroke ones vibrates more... so problem if you work it long hours? Any sensorybto prevent it running n hit stones?

Yes can use kerosene. Yes 2 stroke vibrates more. No it's designed to run same hours as 4 stroke

The best thing I have ever done was to switch the pre mix fuel all of my equipment starts and runs better .

Help please. I want to purchase a new line trimmer. I currently have the Ryobi two-stroke 25cc. I am considering the Stihl FS56 RCE and the Echo SRM225. Also, is there a big difference between a 21.1cc engine and a 25.4cc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi Craig, We'll always go with Stihl over Echo because of Stihl's performance and durability. It will pay for itself again and again over the years, so choose Stihl.

@@Carlsmower I have had a sthil 131r and it had clutch spring issues and the plastic cam failed on it. I replaced it with a Echo 3020t and it came with a 5 year warranty and it has a ton more cutting power. It also is a traditional 2 stroke vs a 4 mix engine. That means no valve adjustment or hardly any maintenance. I researched for about two weeks before I bought mine and the Echo seemed like the right choice for me. I'll never go back to stihl weedeaters again.

A 4 stroke will have more torque if and only if the 4 stroke has more displacement. 2 strokes have more specific torque.

my question is, does using a 2 cycle engine make you age faster. essentially you are sucking in and consuming 2 cycle oil a little bit at a time as you are using it. You probably drink a quart over a lifetime. can't be good for your health. what are your thoughts?

I came here on a quest to find the horse power difference between 2 cycle vs 4 cycle engine of the same cubic centimeters.. And if there is an equasion for discovery. This is what I need to know. You claimed "Everything you need to know" and this is probably the most fundamental information one needs to know. I did not hear where you explained the difference, except your generalized difference stating the 2 cycle gives more power. You also said the 2 cycle engines gives more RPM. For my current position a horse power difference or an equasion is crucial.

4 cycle you can expect to be 2-3 times less powerfull but also consumes 2 times less gasoline ( at lower rpm).

The 4 cycle has more torque. So on a blower or trimmer the difference in performance is big. It’s like comparing diesel horsepower to gasoline horsepower.
