Here's what I've learned about growing and hardening off my seedlings in an unheated greenhouse. I'm sharing how I beat the cold and how to keep everything from dying, as well as the items I use to make things easier.
I garden in a cold climate with a short growing season--zone 3 near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I ordered a greenhouse from Costco. A Palram 8 x 12 that we have to build. I'm zone 4 in central Alberta not too far away from Red Deer. So I'm trying to learn everything I can about growing plants in a greenhouse. I want to put it on the ground and build beds inside along the interior walls. For hot summer plants like peppers/tomatoes. But still be able to do the seedling growing on removable shelving in the early spring, like what you're doing. I have lots to learn.

I’m from Alaska , so you’re the nearest climate I have. I’m glad to have found your channel. I was wondering when do you plant your zinnias outside?

I planted them in mid May this year because the forecast was pretty warm, but normally I plant after my frost date.

I’m wondering what types of seedlings I can move out to my greenhouse at this time of year. I’m in Edmonton. I have pansies, strawflower, sunflowers, asters, dahlias, lisianthus, and then all the various vegetables. I’m hesitant to put out my cruciferous vegetables as I have had challenges with root maggots in the past.

Why do some baby plants bottom leaves turn purple in an unheated greenhouse? This year Persian Cress, Asters and Rudbeckia did that on me. I live in Ca. Zone 9b.

Do you have any suggestions for thermometer placement in the greenhouse.

Do one spot where it’s the sunniest, and other that gets some shade (if you have a situation like mine.

What do you do with your greenhouse throughout the summer? I’m in the US outside of Chicago and I’m thinking of keeping my peppers and eggplants in grow bags in there since it gets SO hot during the day (101 the other day!)

I've read that Temps that high can actually reduce yield on tomatoes and peppers due to stress. If you can get enough air flow to keep Temps under 90 during the day you would probably be quite successful!

I just use it to store items I use to make bouquets (not the actual flowers). It’s too hot! I use it for arranging if it’s raining.

Hello, i might have missed it but do you direct seed your Zinnias or grow them inside?
@ShiftingRoots

I have to grow them all inside, I really struggle with direct sowing anything.
