I'd second and personally add that if you can wait, Falcom games go on sale quite often and all 3 Sky games are on Steam and ready to be played whenever Yes you could start here at Zero, but the experience and overall Trails feel I'd say would be better if you go through all of Sky!

After Seeing Arios in Cold Steel 3 it’s great to know he has a big role in Trails from Zero. I’m really excited for Reverie because Arios will be in there too.

SOOOO happy and thankful to geofront for ultimately being responsible for this being localised for the west. I like cold steel series but I adore sky and crossbell games. Having both zero and azure on switch is a frickin dream and the best versions to boot! Now if only we could get sky trilogy on switch at some point :P

I would love if XSEED just decided to Re-release the Sky sereis on PC and Switch and even PS4 eventually, all of them with glowups like the Evolution versions, with enhanced UI and all that, but I doubt they would do it. And I dunno, I think Zero and Azure would be localized with or without the Geofront translations, the only difference is the timing: By having the fan translation and addapting it you cut the time for localization in more than 75% and the only thing that's left is revision and enhancements. I believe we would all have the game in a few years without the enhancements because they woulkd spend more time just translating the game.

I have the majority of my Trails games, The sky Trilogy & CS 1&2, on PC (Steam), so I'll probably buy it on there, though I would love to have a physical copy on Switch at some point as well to go with my copies of CS 3&4. Probably buy it used if I get the opportunity, though it would be amazing if Xceed were to release a version of the Sky games on the Switch. Probably not going to happen, but it would be awesome.

Played the Geofront version. Fantastic game. I plan on double dipping for both Zero and Azure when they go on sale, but since I already bought the Japanese version of Zero ane Chinese version of Azure, I'm not in a rush to pay full price for both games that I've already played and bought but If you haven't played them before, 40$ is a more than fair price for these games imo.

I've watched some Zero reviews by now and I can say that yours is my favourite so far. I especially found the Q&A section very interesting. Do you know if they added the Evo intro in some way of bonus? It would be a shame if it got lost.

Glad you enjoyed and as for the Evo intro, I’ve completed the game so I have the extras menu and all of that unlocked and it is not there, so I suspect it’s not in the game files

Hmph. I'm currently playing the Evo version on my Vita, with the "fan english patch". The translation quality is night and day different than the Evo version of FC, SC, and 3rd, which also used "fan english translation" patch but taken from the XSEED works for the PC version from 2006, instead of from the Chinese version like that of Zero and Azure.

How optimized is the port? Does it run similarly to Sky? I have a few friends whom have low end PCs that I convinced to play Trails. so if it's not too much harder to run that's good. Both of them had to play on lowest settings and one of them can't even play fmvs full speed so too much slower and the gameplay too will be a slog. (I know they'll need to to upgrade for CS but we'll get there when we get there) This part I doubt you can answer but how well will this run on Linux?

It is a really well optimized port, my PC is 5 years old at this point and is able to run it perfectly fine. I do think it takes a little more than Sky to run since this is the PS4 version ported over but since that one was based in the PSP it's not super intense for a computer to run. Hopefully your friends can still do it on lowest settings. And you are correct I have no idea how it runs on Linux, hopefully someone else can find out for you at some point.

It is about 20% more hardware demanding on max settings. Still it should be potatoeproof

​@@BlackyRay_Patrick I mean I did say one of them already were running Sky below 30 fps (hence cutscene audio desync) so this would have to be more optimized than Sky. But yeah hopefully it's still playable they might be on a new PC when they get to this game anyway one of them has very little free time the other is going to go full on with the playthrough later.

It's not a lie that you can play it in any order. You can totally start with Cold Steel. Yes it's preferable to start with Sky but you know it's not on PlayStation or Xbox which is many people's only systems

Cold steel 1 is a better entry point then zero since cold steel isn't so heavy referencing on characters and events of previous games. I would say until cold steel 2 you will barely miss anything except the big event of azure.... So I would definitely recommend to play sky before zero while it didn't matter much at cold steel 2.... Still yes you can play any first game and you can always go back afterwards and maybe even replay the game with that new background information.

While the 2 games DO have saves used for Hajimari no kiseki the rewards FROM beating BOTH Zero/Ao No Kiseki to transfer to Hajimari are pretty much useless anyways.

I don’t know how familiar you are with the Trails series, but if you are not familiar it is sometimes difficult to talk about the story in the games because this is an interconnected universe. Us Trails fans also will be quite biased about it but here goes. The story is good each main character has great moments over the course of the game that help develop them while also revealing details about the world that enhance the world building. The worldbuilding in general is the hallmark of the series and only continues to get better in Zero. Not all the plot lines are wrapped up since the sequel of Trails to Azure will tackle those but the plot lines that are wrapped up are satisfying and the remaining ones are intriguing. The story of Crossbell as a hole spans through the second half of Cold Steel (Erebonia arc) games and onto Reverie all I can say is without a doubt Crossbell is by far the best arc in the series.

As a fan of the series, I found it inconceivable that someone, anyone at all who pledge their love for this series, to decide NOT to buy the official release because of Price, because of a lack of a meh kind of English dub or because they already played the Geofront version. First of all, I can guarantee it to you that 90% of the people who played the Geofront version didn't buy the Joyland version from the Japanese website. Period. Second, as much as I know you're allowed to have your own opinions, I find it stupid NOT supporting the official western Release. You guys DO know it cost money to localize, and publish those games and that, for better or for worse, if we don't pay for the official release especially during the release window, which is the time (around the three first months or so) the money they spend with the localization comes back and generates the extra incoming they need to make sure it's worth to invest in those games. Yeah, yeah, Nis shut down fan ttranslations. But remember: For every single person who is complaining they won;t get a game already in Englsih, because there's no dub and because they already played the Geofront patch, while the Geofront Patch had no dub at all, if the lack of dub is enough to them not to buy the game, as much as I don't want to believe it, it's not as far fetched to imagine that anyone who buys the Japanese game and apply the patch to play it in English somehow, will see any reason to buy the English release later on. Nis only makes money from the games you buy directly from them. You can fucking Buy Kuro no Kiseki on Steam, the ones who will get the money is not Nisa. It's the Clouded Leopard. So it makes total sense for them to shut down translations that could mess with theri release in a few years or so. So, you guys really, really think it's worth sacrificing official translations, being able to buy the game on Steam and just play it without installing tons of mods to make the game playable, just because you don't want to support Nis? So, in the end, if you like this series, give them the support. The series ALMOST never came to us because the PC launch from Sky was likewarm at best. These games are massive in text, frankly you should be happy they decided to buy the Geofront translation and base theirs on that, instead of do their own translations from the get go, that would make these games take AT LEAST two years to be here or more and we would probably never get any of these enhancements at that. And for those who are mad that for nisa, fan translations are only worth if they are complete: Yeah I understand your argument, but reemmeber that the Geofront patch was mostly done anyway, and differenlty than the Kuro no Kiseki series which ARE on Steam to buy, Zero and AO no kiseki are not. So it's harder for you to buy and give money to someone else anyways. We can also think that Falcom themselves asked Nis to stop these translations because they don't like people injecting stuff into their code. There's that too. And one more thing: Ys Origin, published by XSEED uses the Fan translations that took three massive years of fans doing it, only for them to buy that translation and apply it to their game and sell it. So yes: XSEED did it too. So please. Go. Support the project. I don't care if you hate nis, or if you think it's unfair this game costs 40$ or if you don't like you can't understand other languages, because you can't READ without your dub. If you don't support the series, they will only stop publishing it and I really want to play Kuro no Kiseki by 2025. XD
