If you are going to do some autocross and are going to run in a street tire class, the best tires for it are either Bridgestone Re-71R, or BfGoodrich Rival S 1.5. Those are the most sticky street tires that are still above the 200 treadwear limits that most autocross clubs require. It was a night and day difference when I switched my car to one of those after running a year of autocross on standard sport tires.

Apprentice Mechanic here. The 4G63 is a great motor. Even the best owners often forget the balance belt when doing the cambelt and it grenades the motor. Do the timing and balance kit when you're doing the maintenance, for the love of god.

Right now before you send it north to the salt loaded roads of Connecticut, get a undercoating put on the unibody. You can do it yourself just make sure you do a great washing of your underbody. Get every spec of dirt. A good undercoating is just like a spray on bed liner. It prevents chips and the salt from getting to the metal.

3:08 Lot's of cars will automatically disengage the A/C compressor when the throttle is at 100%, and reengage it when you lift off again. 3:44 It's a 5, so it has Active Yaw Control; it's a torque vectoring rear differential, which is one of the fancy things that makes the Evo's handle like a boss. 12:00 If it uses an air flow meter instead of a MAP sensor, then adding an atmospheric bov instead of a recirculating valve, will screw up the fueling. Save the hassle and just go recirculating valve. If you fit a cone filter you'll still hear it blow off, just not so loud.

An evo 9 turbo isn't really necessary (but they will see 400 if thats what you want). My Evo 6 had stock turbo, Walbro 255, 3" downpipe & catback, K&N filter, spark plug gapped & it was 360bhp & 350 ft/lbs @1.55 bar but thats the maximum safe boost on the standard rods really. If you want high 300's you'll need to get forged rods especially if you want drive it hard a lot, also oil starvation can be an issue.

just so you know granted I drive Audis and it may be a slight bit different but with all people who drive all-wheel drive cars the one thing you have to remember is momentum as your key and do not lift pedal as it will cause the front wheels to slide instantly and you will understeer massively your throttle is your friend to pull you around turns but if you're definitely going in way too hot the throttle could cause problems as well.... basically the weight of the car will still push you in the momentum it was originally going unless you have enough grip in the front to pull the car in a direction that you want same as drifting when you're gripped up in your sliding you have enough grip to push you in the direction you need to go instead of sliding off course

The pop between shifts is the factory Antilag. It diverts the air from the charge pipe into the exhaust manifold to keep the turbo spooled. Cool JDM shit.

@Adam LZ - Without knowing the particulars. Get rid of the Blow-off valve - Evos don't like them unless you go for an SD (speed density) tune, it makes them rich hesitate etc. Get an Evo8 MR Recirculating BOV (metal unit) and fit that. it works for decent boost pressures too. Then get a decent Electronic boost controller like HKS EVC 6 and then you can tune boost. Or go mental and get aftermarket ecu (but most road going evos will retain the stock ecu as its plenty tunable for a street car). (I have and race an evo 7 and tune it etc.)

Ive got a 4G4F in my Hyundai, they are great motors. Mines at around wheel HP now. Ive done about 120,000km on that setup. Internals are stock, just has an upgraded head gaskets and ARP head studs. The 4G4F and 4G63T motors are pretty much the same in regards to internals apparently. Just different compressions as the 4G4F is an NA motor.

@@kylebertram3159 I think you are I'll informed my friend. The 5 and 6 share the same chassis, wheelbase and width. The 6 was just a revised evo 5. Slightly improved engine internals, the rods and pistons, which allowed them to do the ECU change for the torque increase. The turbo has different internal turbine, as it was made from titanium, but shares the same housing, meaning both sides are the same MM. Yes, the shocks and spring rates where improved, but are the same make. You, got me on the steering ratio and spoiler is slightly different. As I said before biggest change was the bumper and interior changes but that doesn't change the car b.c for the most part it's the same car. 4 to 5, 6 to 7 and 9 to 10(never existed) evos are different cars. And the change from evo 7 to 8 is much much larger from the 5 to 6. Bilstein stocks and a LSD and the introduction on the fq400s. Even tho the 7 and 8 are the same car.

AYC (active yaw control) rear diff transfers torque to the outside rear wheel to help the car rotate (cancel out understeer) it's a slightly odd feeling sensation until you get used to it.

Rally set ups usually run a front wheel drive bias, so a little more power goes to the front. It could be 50/50% stock set up. Not sure if you can change that, be nice if you can.

Reflash, e85, 1600cc injectors, 450 In tank cam gears and you'll have one wicked evo and you should see a strong 380hp at the wheels
