@@OBSMProductions Our system benefits from people that culturally follow the rules. Society as a whole benefits by people following the rules, and rule breakers being removed. The Internet gives people a chance to thrive despite running counter to their local culture. That's not a good thing for cultural cohesion. It's divisive and disruptive, the exact opposite of a homogenous functioning society. So now we get dumb tv shows like Breaking Bad becoming so mainstream where they celebrate criminal activity and normalize violence that people culturally are more accepting and empathetic of criminal misdeeds (see your own comment, for example). Or people getting fascinated with prison, drug, gang culture etc. These are not good things to "get interested" in. It's not a good thing to be compensating criminals for doing criminal behavior. It's fine that the guy is giving his insight and entertaining people, but don't celebrate him like he's some hero fighting against the Oppressive System. The system is what allows you to own things and sleep safely at night. Society would be way better off to not be parading criminals like some sort of anti-hero, hard knock lifestyle.

Additionally, the murders had to happen in a tight timeframe, so each killing was a killing of opportunity. So they had to kill him where he stood instead of in the room. I think they only had a few minutes to kill them all.

The one guy who was burnt alive was almost certainly inspired by an infamous murder that happened on arizona"s death row back in 1982 where an inmate threw an ice cream tub full of hair tonic on a murderer named buster holinger then lit him up and calmly walked up too a guard and said "there's gonna be one less on count tonight, I set buster on fire".

the important thing to note is the difference between state prisons and federal prisons. Federal tend to be ran safer, but state tend to have their prisons ran by private companies and as such their ran to cram as many people as they can in the prison and they'll cheap out on anything they can to maximise profts. Granted this is also higher sequirity prisons. Lower sequrity prisons for small crimes like stealing have their issues but you don't have to worry that much about crazy shit like this and they tend to even host things like classes you can take during your time. It's something I'm not proud to see in my country... but it's an example of capitalism going bad,

Something to remember too is that when they were planning the hits, they were keeping in mind which people they had who worked as guards at that facilities so it's possible for some of these that they might have been able to make the cameras "malfunction" if it had to go down in the open.

I saw a real prison attack on a documentary once and it was so disturbing that I had nightmares. The inmate actually stopped stabbing to catch his breath , then went back to stabbing this other inmate. It was horrific.

The point you made about it being fast is great, and its an important thing to keep in mind. You dont have someone walking towards you slowly, ominously, blade in hand, like in the movies. Murders like that happen fast, they usually try to ambush you and get you off-guard, and its over quick. THATS why you gotta be prepared in prison; always ready, because if you're not, you'll get caught unawares. And thats probably a big contribution to PTSD and mental illness after getting out. The mind isn't supposed to be on edge 24/7. It causes mental fatigue, like being in a combat zone for prolonged periods of time.

I was a CO in prison before moving to the county jail. While I was in prison we had the inmates moving across the yard coming to chow. When one particular inmate made it to the chow hall he was wobbling around and we thought he was fucked up on K2. We approached him and he faces his body towards us. Once he did that we saw a fountain of blood squirting from the side of his neck. He had stitches put in from the top of his face to the bottom of his neck and the weapon was never recovered. The prison violence is real.

Love this talk. For me, the rat bit hit home. I work at a bar that unfortunately had a dumpster catch on fire one day. The rats that were still in the dumpster, below all the shit that was burning, only came out when the FD came through and flooded the thing. I'll never forget seeing a rat run out the topside of a smoldering dumpster to avoid drowning and leap directly onto the firefighter who was attending to the whole mess. He was pretty cool with the whole thing thankfully. Anyway, thank you Larry for your awesome content. ❤️

Thanks for breaking down the jail killing scenes. Which ones were the most realistic and why. I watched Breaking Bad when it first came on the air. Started off as more of a dark comedy than just got really dark, but really awesome. Been in jail before, luckily never saw anything that bad, but it was for minor shit, nothing major. Still sucked being in there none the less. I really hope you're videos and words will make some people realize it's so NOT worth it. You take your freedom for granted till it gets taken from you and than even the simplest things in jail what few commissary things or getting a razor to use was the only thing that made me feel somewhat human while in there. My experience of having been there it's pretty dehumanizing.

Originally Vince Gilligan was only going to make Breaking Bad 2 season with Jessie getting killed at the end and Walt regretting it all. I'm very glad Vince changed his mind and took it in a different direction and didn't kill Jessie off and didn't end it at two seasons and I'm glad that it turned out to be one dark crime drama

I mean what's worse (to my mind) is that that happens all the time, far too frequently and on a very dubious basis regardless of whether they meet a violent end or not. Look up three strikes laws, "conspiracy" etc redundant fluff charges and how they're (mis)used in conjunction w/plea bargaining, especially in the federal system, the frequency and fondness of prosecutors for tacking on lifetime parole/probation supervision onto plea deal conditions combined w/how the whole parole & probation system sets people up to fail. Plus how broad/wide and potentially arbitrary the judicial discretion range is for many charges (i.e., in regard to a lot of crimes believe it or not, for the exact same charge you can get handed sentences ranging anywhere from ~5 years plus probation & fines to LIFE incarceration, depending upon countless variables and ultimately whether the judge had a bad day or not, I suppose?), the rapid spread & pervasiveness/political popularity of mandatory minimums beginning around the 90s or so to present, persistent racial and socioeconomic disparities in sentencing... It's all deeply disturbing, and just *bleak*. To say nothing of "hosprisons" for RSOs & convicts deemed (rather arbitrarily, and ironically, but that's another topic) mentally ill who've already served their sentences and which are nearly impossible to ever be released from (and before everyone hate-dogpiles me for this comment, look a little further into how the criteria works of who gets selected to be admitted to those places and who doesn't, seriously it's pretty messed up--spoiler alert, it ain't really about "protecting the public", "treatment", or based in any actual science in reality, despite what they claim). One metric/indicator that starkly illustrates the point I'm making is the percentage/proportion of elderly prisoners over the age of 60-65,and how it's alarmingly grown in recent years/decades (and keep in mind, the healthcare in the US prison system often rivals that of extremely poor developing countries for how atrociously bad it is, and prison authorities seem quite fond of ignoring cancer until it's totally untreatable & hence terminal). You know that old joke to the effect "...what do you call the person who graduates last in their medical class (and maybe got their license suspended several times for malpractice and/or ethical misconduct)? Doctor!" Hint: where do most/many of those "just-barely-fit-to-be-a-doctor" types go to practice? (Not counting extremely rural areas, impoverished foreign/forever-"developing" countries, and Native American reservations, which are more-or-less the overlap of both of those two categories, just switch "foreign" w/"sorta sovereign".) That answer to that rhetorical question a.) makes that joke much less funny, and b.) really underlines how dangerous it is to be, and why you really super-duper wouldn't want to be, sick, injured, chronically disabled or pregnant in prison. So on the one hand, as an average American inmate, you have the low-to-moderate but perpetually present risk of meeting the kind of fate depicted in the clip Larry's reviewing, and on the other, numerous pathways to dying behind bars even if you're lucky enough to be able to live out a "full", "natural" lifespan. Not exactly a system befitting the wealthiest country on the planet, is it? **TL;DR:** Absolutely, but even more horrifying than the cavalier approach to inmate/prisoner safety and potential violent death inside this comment implies is that regardless, the Kafkaesque nature of the American criminal legal system gives it a "Hotel California"/"Roach Motel"-esque quality far too often by default. Prison reform NOW.

No from my experience it’s only people who bring it on themselves, or people who don’t make any friends. If you don’t bond with people in your pod then some dickbag might try to extort you for your food. I’ve never seen any rape or anything but sadly I’ve seen/had to hear people get stabbbed in the shower. whenever I took a shower I’d ask a buddy to stand outside just in case

These comments don't apply if the convict is a child sex offender of any sort. They have to spend their entire sentence in solitary confinement from day one, or they *will* be killed in general. If you're in that position, all you can do is hope your death will be quick and out of nowhere.

The music, the editing, the sound overall mixing in brutal noises with the upbeat music, all that. But it's the part of the brain that instinctively realizes the realness of the scenes the creators have gone through such great lengths to portray. There's a believable desperation in these scenes that's rarely captured. The victims, who are even shown to have any time at all to react, barely have a moment to realize what's happening before they are flailing around in absolute primal panicked desperation and yet are utterly hopeless. The guy who tried to catch the door before it trapped him really shows it all in the way he instantly knew what was happening and tried to give himself any slim chance to survive but was totally doomed. He doesn't even turn to face his killers, not that he had time as they were on him so fast. The kills are brutally efficient. Not super stylized, instead quick and horrifying. As they would be irl even if the killers cared nothing of being caught, they would care about their victim getting the upper hand on them, getting away. Drawing the ire of the shot caller that sent them to get the job done. They may already have life so another murder means nothing, but it's a sentence served within the walls owned by those who ordered them to do the deed. Keeping their status within the good graces of those is all they have left. Losing that is one thing they have left to fear. In the same way real footage of an actual murder is going to be much, much more upsetting than pretty much any movie murder, this show is bridging the gap between the two and adding some nice touches with the music n all the effects and angles only adding to the intensity instead of taking anything away. Speaks to the ultra-rare talent behind this universe. Who actually thought Better Call Saul was going to rival BB or even surpass it ?! Virtually no one I would wager.

I can't imagine watching someone get killed in a show then thinking "wow, that brought back memories." Actually insane. Dealing with that, I think proves the realness of Larry. One of my main goals in life is literally just, don't end up in prison EVER. I'd never forgive myself, would be one of my biggest regrets at death. Don't have to tell me twice to not do crime.

Great point about the felony pods vs misdemeanor pods. I always got put in the "Angel Dorm" b/c I'd get put in for super low level crimes like trespass, open container. And, c'mon you guys, there are cameras EVERYWHERE in the county jails nowadays. Even on the phones! Yep, the phones use a kind of Skype system, meaning that the person you're talking to can actually see into the dorm or pod behind you.

Why would they give prisoners a hiding place on their standard-issue clothing? That really surprised me. Thanks again!

It was a rush job, they had a certain amount of guys they wanted dead for being suspected informants, they had to have all of them hit within 2 minutes so they couldn’t put them into protection due to the other ones being killed, it’s an interesting concept for sure

There was a scene where Walt calculated exactly how much money he needed before he was going to leave the meth business. 737,000 dollars…I believe. If Walt, all along, had ambitions of being a kingpin, he would not have went through the effort of calculating that.
