Ex-Mormon here. Starting out with hard liquor as your first alcoholic drink is SUCH a horrible idea. It's better to ease into it with beer, wine, or sweet cocktails. My first alcoholic drink was Shock Top, which was a perfect choice. As a side note, alcoholism amongst Ex Mormons is unfortunately SUPER common. When we're prohibited from using something our whole lives, it's not surprising that we overcompensate later in life, and that can lead to addiction problems. Sex and porn addiction tends to be pretty common too, for the same reason. Just remember, use moderation and common sense when transitioning from high demand religion.

I come from a similar background. I was 20 when i lost my virginity and my dad could barely speak to me for years. Both my parents response was deeply emotionally abusive and scarring. My dad thought I had lost my value as a human being because I wasnt a virgin anymore. My mom sat me down and called me a slut over and over in my face, even though I had been dating the guy for an entire year and was 20 years old not living at home..... Not only that but being indoctrinated by these beliefs gives you a complete loss of identity once you start doing things you were supposed to never ever do that 'define' your value as a person. Your identity is formed by all the things you dont do in those communities, but life happens and once you start entering adulthood its like you have no idea who you are anymore, because youve done the things you defined yourself as never had done. If that makes sense. My heart goes out to that girl. I hope she reads this and knows shes not alone.

Get out there and experience life, go fail, so you can be successful and be able to tell your kids/grandkids how many trial and errors it took u to be successful & one day you can inspire those that look up to you who ever they may be. Y’all are both young adults now y’all know right from wrong. I heavily support both of you, seek your happiness & you’ll find your purpose along the way. Just remember this lifetime isn’t free just short, one thing we’ll never get back is time so be sure to make the rest worth it.

Rooting for you girl!! As an ex-mormon myself I know how hard it is to be a confident less active. Left when I was 18, went to Uni and found myself and Love myself, I am a much happier person, I have better relationships and I am actually excited about life, because at the end of the day Heavenly Father did not bless us with this world and the people around for us to not enjoy it. You're doing great❤
@carlizeaploon25062 жыл бұрын
At no point did I mention anything about alcohol in my comment. As an ex-mormon, I understand the traumas that come with that and they are very very real. It takes a hell of a lot to leave, especially if its all that you know and drinking is definitely not reason alone, everything else, however is. I am just here trying to support this girl, because I understand. I also know that once you make this decision you are completely seperated and Isolated from your whole life ( family, friends) and so everyone making the decision deserves all the extra support they need. Once left, a new journey starts where you have to find out who you are, understand what happiness really is and build a new and healthier relationship with yourself and your spirituality and that is what I am rooting for.

Everything about this was great, except for the drink choices 😆. Here would be my suggestions: 1. Start with a good sweet cider, or a nice craft beer if they want to try it and like the flavor 2. Let them choose a really palatable, delicious fruity cocktail, based on their flavor - maybe a pina colada, a fuzzy navel, or a mojito 3. A nice glass of wine, red or white, based on their preference 4. END with a shot (not start 😆), if something with a nice flavor - maybe a really high end, smooth bourbon, or a tequila or mezcal

I know exactly what that girl is going though. Even though I'm a guy, my dad was very very controlling. The best thing I did was leave the house not to long after my grandma passed. She lived with us at the time, and I only stayed because I was forced to take care of her by myself during the day.

Giving a first time drinker a shot of vodka is INCREDIBLY irresponsible. Vodka shots should be avoided at all costs. Give them some good mixed drinks.
@phunkyphresh37992 жыл бұрын
My first drink was a homemade hard cider I made from apple juice, champagne yeast, and sugar. I let it ferment in my dorm and when I tasted it I almost threw up. I poured the rest into the toilet. I tried a few shots of bottom shelf vodka a day later and the first thing I thought was “Jesus this is so much better than my hard cider”

They both seem like strong, openminded & kind people. I truly hope that their family becomes less rigid and strict about their believes and won't shun them simply because they went in a different direction when it comes to faith or ideology. I come from a strict protestant reformed background and left when I was 18... after a difficult 5-6 years my family slowly started to let me back into their lives a bit again. We're fine now (over 2 decades later). Also, the churchbench was a nice touch :D

I’m an atheist so I wouldn’t discourage anyone from leaving their religion, especially fundamentalist religions (I’d also never presume to encourage anyone to leave). But what’s with encouraging people to drink? Alcohol is a carcinogen for many kinds of cancer. I used to drink moderately, and even now I’ll have a beer or glass of wine, but very infrequently, but alcohol is bad. Cut seems to love getting people to drink hard liquor. Why? I know it’s so much fun to get high from alcohol.
