The only way to really understand the extent of damage spanning seven homes at Rocky Point is to see it from the air.

Common sense!!! Do not build / buy property on a beach front! Belong to the Ocean to spread! Move your houses to a higher grounds!!! The beach belongs to everyone!!!

Living on the beach isn't worth it in a long run. It's like having a home next to a river, or any flood zone.

I remember taking a course at the University of Hawaii. My Oceanography professor was often called upon to sign off on s me of these developments . He flat out said No. many builders wanted to place rocks etc… in beachfront areas but professor said it will cause erosion down the coastline . The beachfront is not controllable. Many did it anyway.🤷♀️

Fix the coral reef. Because with no reef it will have a lot of water. The reef will act as a barrier.

Conservation of land? Someone gets paid for that? Impossible job. Stop selling coastal lands and reclaim beaches as preserved space. Roots of trees use to hold land in place.

Aloha These Homes have been here for over 50 years & More This is not Florida or Louisiana where mangroves and different marshes would hold the Ocean back, this is the North Shore, Oahu Hawaii, and it is hammered by storms and waves like you wouldn't believe, and if there were only trees here, there would be nothing here the land, it would be all the way back to the mountain, you have no idea woman what you are talking about here in Hawaii, I'm not happy you should have compassion which says yeah they need the large boulders, they need the large rocks some of the huge places over here on the South Side, Southwest they get to build something out there to protect the big building, that has many people that live in it, on the beach, oh yeah they brought in big boulders for that, anyway you don't know anything about it at all, there is no more beach front property to sell over here.

@@kathypaaaina3953, aloha kakou, to you and yours. My O’Hana are from Hau’ula. Our generations have been on Hawaiian homelands since 1927 on Kuku’au. I do know the area and I do know that there has not been an investment in infrastructure anywhere on the North Shore or that side due to the reality that there is no interest by the governments who control the purse. Climate change has now caused a new dynamic, and island lifestyles are about to experience incomprehensible destruction, unseen in our lifetimes. I mean no disrespect and I have just donated funds to those who have recently suffered. You, my dear do not know me, so do not judge me. “Hau’ula skies, fair and bright. Mountains are green. Oceans are wide.” Go rest on your high horse morals and lecture someone else. Up, Mauka, It is the overall diversion of waters, the splicing through a mountain to create a freeway, as well, the lack of clearing out streams and the ignorance that these buildings built 50 years ago can withstand the torrents on the way. When you have one retailer bragging about putting up a concrete wall to prevent water from coming inside his place, but he did not think how that would affect the others around him, that is not aloha, sis. That is ‘all about me’ logic. This is a community issue to be solved as a village, not by one person thinking that it is, all about him. Ask your local representatives, and seek help to get the roads fixed, and find real solutions. Meanwhile I live on high ground on Big Isle. I suggest what Hawaiians are left, move to Big Island, where affordable places are still available and they can breathe fresh are, plant ono food, fish, hunt, and buy affordable land. Oahu is overcrowded and the spill over into the countryside is now inundated with too many people ‘getting their own.’ Only wish you more good will. Not anger.

everybody takes risks when they buy a home. It is not bad luck when a homeowner ignores Mother Nature.

Who is in charge of planning.? The planning department should be held accountable.. I mean seriously why are they funded if they are the ones in charge of planning and permits.. They permitted these homes in the first place.. You can't get insurance.. You can't sell.. Sounds like worse than bad planning it sounds like a scam.. The county/state needs to buy these people out.. No if ands or buts about it.. Otherwise defund the planning department and let us build whatever we want on the land we buy and you guys can butt out of our lives.. We can just anticipate disaster and start go fund mes or start our own insurance savings.. Because whether its erosion on Oahu or wherever.. Or lava on the big Island.. I mean look at Royal gardens.. Who allows these developments in the most geologically unstable places.? These people may have been suckers to buy in the crappiest location. but still the planning department needs to take the bulk of the responsibility.

I hope they don’t think taxpayers money is going to fix this.
