You don't need a lot of weight for Jefferson Squats. They are excellent for building the entire leg, especially the sweep. For those who can't/don't want compression of the spine, then Jeffersons are great. Give them a try and go at a slow cadence, and you will build muscle fast. I'm 61 and don't go over two 25 lbs plates per side (145 lbs), and keep in mind these are unilateral exercises, so it's actually like 300 lbs back squats. Doing 95 lbs Jeffersons for 25 reps at a slow cadence is also a cadio exercise. You'll find muscles you didn't know you had. Also they are excellent for opening the hips, take the first few reps increasingly lower until you get to your maximum depth.

I returned to doing Jefferson squats in September this year, and the truth is that when done properly, you don't need a load of weight. The emphasis of the movement is to maintain tension throughout the movement, so it should be applied late in a leg workout. Therefore, straps and load aren't needed, and your legs will tell you that it is time to quit.
@kiltedsasquatch3693
@kiltedsasquatch3693 15 күн бұрын
Absolutely. I do them with a slow cadence and high reps when using 95 lbs. For those not aware, Jeffersons are a unilateral exercise, meaning two sets is one complete set. I usually have to rest between half sets. Great exercise for those like me and wants to avoid spine compression. Excellent for the entire leg/glute/hip area. As a 61 yr old lifetime natural, my thighs are a well defined 27 inches, pumped to 28+. Jeffersons are one of those exercises that you love to hate.

As always, a great video DR MIKE! You’re so funny. It would have been great to have all this info 20 years ago when I started training. I tried all the normal split training (Weider), German volume, DC, what ever you think. I think Kai uses a spotter due to something (like an injury) in his left elbow… In the first part of the video (one plate on each side) you can see.
@ETEcco
@ETEcco 15 күн бұрын
My guess on the pressing is that the lockout is hard for him (I also struggle with it) so the spotter get him the lockout and then stops helping on the way down, lets Mr. Greene take the weight, then does it again when he gets close to the top. This would let you spend more time in the stretch and use your energy more optimally. If you insist on bench, this would let you have more weight in the stretch less in the lock out. Saves energy, allows more ROM. Just my guessing.

Hey mike just recently watched the Jeff nippard arms collab. I just had a few questions. You said that rows and pull ups work the long head of the tricep. Is this from emg data? Because from a biomechanics perspective I can't wrap ny head around. To me that is like saying squats build hamstrings. The shoulder might be extending, but sinces the elbow is flexing, the long head of the tricep isn't actually changing lenght. Thoughts?

Hi, I'm one of the three and a half of the female viewership! It'd be super cool to see Dr. Mike critique Mitch Hooper's training since Strongmen don't get much coverage by comparison, and considering he's a science based competitor, it would be cool to see if you agree. Plus I'm sure Dr. Mike would find an inappropriate way to geek out about how hot the baldest, Strongest Man is.
