Hey Dr. Mike, I discovered your channel ~2 ½ years ago, and your straightforward, evidence-supported content has proven to be the most effective fitness blueprint ever for me. I’ve been lifting for a decade. Before stumbling into RP, I was a SixPackShortcuts disciple turned Athlean- X weenie. I trained to failure constantly, my idea of overload was switching between gimmicky circus trick workouts on a weekly basis, and I spent a non-negligible amount of time trying to recomp, effectively staying in body purgatory. It got to the point where I sincerely believed I was one of those genetically-doomed chodes whose total muscle gain couldn’t amount to more than ~15 lbs. In fewer than three years of following RP’s training and nutrition guidelines, I’ve lost more body fat and gained more muscle than I had in the previous six. My only complaint is that you hadn’t started dropping these nuggets of knowledge/gaining traction earlier on in my fitness journey!

@@BigBADSTUFF69 Eh, it actually is a concept that exists. It's the structure that occurs when you force wolves into an abnormal/unnatural/synthetic pack. He retracted his theory specifically because of that fact, he supposed that the "alpha-beta" structure was how natural packs formed and how the hierarchy broke down in nature, but it only looked like that because real wolf packs are a mother-father-pups unit, with the mother and father at the top, and instead of studying that they just forced a bunch of wolves who were strangers to one another together and... they didn't like that. Bad conclusions were drawn, and then they realized that the experiment was shitty (as far as fulfilling its original goal goes, it was still a good experiment if you wanted to study what would happen if you forced unrelated wolves to live amongst each other).

Jump forward five years same person, they gained fifty pounds over that time and now off gear for whatever reason they shank back to the size they were when they asked for your advice five years ago, and you are still jacked and haven't cycled in five years.

@@Artiscetic I see that alot where I work. Usually they just hop on gear and don't even bother researching the stuff like OK this that this that done but how about I add one thing more then after a cycle they still working out but for some reason nothing happens anymore and they get discouraged coz they are looking for that ultra fast growth and it doesn't happen anymore and some of em stops working out coz depressed since the cycle is done so they are recovering from all the gear they took so that's a good time for weeks and most of these guys don't even understand it's the gear making them think that way. But some of them just resume doing another cycle too early and then and there a GYM BRO is born always on gear always losing his mind till his heart reminds him that it's time to pay taxes with a stroke. Ignorance is bad, if you are gonna do gear do your do diligence and study up so you don't get blind sided once you are showing behavioural changes that affects your decision making big time so you don't end up on a spiral to the void due to bad decisions brought to you by gear and that's a very nasty cycle.

And yet they age horribly and fast ... It doesn't look good. In my opinion, the whole thing - the way it messes with your hormones, the effects on heart, brain, hair, the need for control, the idea that you can't get big enough, the need to kind of shock people, the obsession , the dying in middle age... it's far more akin to anorexia... What baffles me is that whilst one is seen as a mental illness; the other is seen as "goals"... I can never decide whether it's worse that we encourage, or at least allow, (primarily) men in this field to slowly destroy themselves; or whether it's worse that we don't stop them or seem to care... One thing I'm fairly sure of though, it's not just vanity. There's a whole lot of insecurity and low self esteem built in there too.

I would love a reaction/critique video regarding Will Tennyson's new one (or something similar) regarding biohacking for muscle growth/recovery. As a scientist (a structural biologist who admittedly is unfamiliar with the current state of the athletic science literature), that stuff always feels like bunk, but I know plenty of people will (and do) buy into it.

I have read a study that men that didn't work out and took steroids gained more muscle than people who worked out and didn't take steroids. I think it was short term, though.
@joshuablair252 Жыл бұрын
Theres alot of problems with that study though. Once you hop off you lose all the gains. And that also happens to guys that never lift, they gain muscle while on gear, but you have to be eating right.

It's sad to see kids get caught up like this. I've been in this game responsibly for over 5 decades. I've seen dummies like these two come and go and it never ends well. They remind me of the Barbarian Twins. 30 years later one is dead and the other looks like shyt. Ask the survivor if it was worth it. I'm all for physical enhancement with an edge if it's done correctly and under doctors supervision. I get blood tests every month. I'm monitored by 4 doctors and it's worked well for me. I'm 62 and am often mistaken for 40. In fact I had one endocrinologist warn me that I might have problems later in life after looking at my chart, seeing what I'm taking. My response was, when is later in life? Do you realize In in my sixties with more year's behind me than ahead of me? She almost fell off of her chair in shock. Thinking I was 39 or 40! 🤣

How come you removed the hypertrophy training guide from your website? It had recommended weekly sets and exercises for every muscle group and was very helpful
@elpresidente1990 Жыл бұрын
Because it’s useless. It was a good guide, but it’s only helpful to you because you’re searching for a definitive answer to which there is none. Train with sufficient volume within 6-20 sets and auto regulate within there or under or over, see how you go.
@therogueserafim271 Жыл бұрын
I might be talking out of my depth here, but I think a shift of training philosophy occurred within RP. I think they're leaning a lot more on auto regulation now, maybe due to results seen from the data collected through the app (which uses a lot of auto regulation). I hypothesize that they're gonna publish a big ass paper analyzing their results in the future.
@BigBADSTUFF69 Жыл бұрын
@@therogueserafim271 their older templates used RPE and autoregulation too, it ws just in an excel sheet rather than an app. I do think you are probably right about the data collection through the app though, or at least you should be as that seems like a great resource having so many training logs digitzed.
@tinguspingus1538 Жыл бұрын
@@elpresidente1990 it provided several ranges for volume. Was very helpful to see the different sets per week for each muscle group. I'm currently on my third week off and I must say I don't feel different mentally nor did I feel different while on. Hard to say when you are critiquing yourself, but even those close to me haven't reported me acting differently. Nor did I have acne or some of those other effects.
