Discover a powerful breathing technique to swiftly reduce stress and induce relaxation in this exclusive video by Patrick McKeown, the founder of Oxygen Advantage®.
Whether you're a part-time or professional athlete seeking enhanced performance and faster recovery or just a person going through a stressful moment in the day, this exercise is designed to help you relax and alleviate stress within minutes.
By engaging in simple breathing exercises, you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system, triggering the body's natural rest and digest response. With a specific focus on your exhale, you'll be amazed at how quickly you can achieve a state of calmness.
The controlled exhalation technique taught by Patrick McKeown stimulates the vagus nerve, resulting in the release of acetylcholine, a powerful neurotransmitter. As a result, your heart rate slows down, counteracting the accelerated breathing and elevated heart rate associated with stress.
Additionally, this method is effective for combating "stress at rest," a phenomenon where stress causes your heart to race even when you're in a relaxed posture. With this simple yet powerful technique, you have the ability to swiftly and safely remove yourself from stressful situations.

Thank you Patrick! I went into cardiac arrest 2 years ago while confusing deep breathing with hyperventilation like so many. I have been trying to relearn how to breath in a slow gentle manner through my nose. Play say hello to the people of Moycullen for me, I spent a summer there when I was a student!

I like to add a humming sound on the exhalation, it prolongs the exhalation

Nice presentation…. Is it okay to have a longer inhale? I find it to difficult without more inhaled air. About 4 seconds in slowly and exhale slowly until breath depleted?

How do you do it for 90 seconds? I only seem to exhale for about 20- 30 seconds

🤣 I think Patrick means complete the soft inhalation + slow exhalation sequence for a maximum of 90 seconds rather than exhale for 90 seconds 😅❤

Correct @@mariadillon860 Reasonable mistake to make @mingoroballo. Just prioritise the exhale breath being a second or two longer than the inhale breath and you'll be fine.

When I do this exercise (softly breathing in and out) I usually have a big yawn afterwards with my mouth open. Why do I yawn and is yawning good for us?
