He started talking to her again about 10 years ago, but obviously their relationship is very limited because he's still a witness. She can't even smoke a cigarette if he's around because she's so afraid of losing her father again. I've seen disappointment in her eyes everytime he doesn't want to get too much involved in her life. The saddest thing is that she's gay and she never lived as her true self because she's afraid her father may shun her again. This shit leaves you traumatised to the core.

Who knows what her life details are. Moreover, even if she is 16, this kind of trauma leaves kids in a dark place and a cigarette- albeit harmful their health- causes a temporary release from pain and a powerful addiction. They also never mentioned if she was an addict or a casual smoker. Regardless, it's a sad thing she still, after many years, is experiencing. Hopefully this provides a little more perspective and compassion. 🙂
@JosieViolette2 ай бұрын
My condolences for your friend's loss. What she has in her life is a bully and a coward, not a father. If she saw any example of a real father that sparks powerful boundless love and safety, she would know this. Secondly, I hope she seeks out a mental health professional who specializes in familial dynamics and relationships. Being around that man is not a good investment for her personal wellbeing. She's afraid of finding love because of him, which in a way is his mission, after all- to keep people from being around others who would help her heal and get away from him. This keeps her from investing in herself and her bright future ahead that could be filled with far greater love and possibility, because that place is being filled by fear of such a small, pathetic excuse of a man. Your friend deserves to have a real family, and a real life, not whatever this plague-ridden human is offering her. As the video mentions, when starving, even crumbs feel like a banquet. I truly hope you are able to help her realize this and guide her toward increasing her self-esteem, self-compassion, forgiveness for herself and not that man masquarading as even the shell of what a parent is meant to be, realize what he's doing and cut him out entirely. (EDIT: If he is genuinely apologetic and actively working to help her recover from the pain he's inflicted, that's wonderful. However, it's his responsibility to accept who she truly is and let her find joyous love without fear of him hurting her again.) He's already pushing her away from new relationships and made her fearful of repeated abandonment as a punishment. This tactic of emotional abu- isn't unique to this group. It's in _countless_ other humans, parents, partners, friends, strangers. She deserves to be free of that. She deserves to live the one life she has free and happily with true love from a family that she makes among her friends and healthy loved ones. I know it's so difficult to let go, to not blame yourself, to not understand "why" they did it, "how" they don't see or could apologize without using selfless actions to heal what they'd hurt, and to feel abandoned after walking away from them. But in order to grow a new garden, the diseased plants that are sucking the life out of the soil most go away completely. Then a new garden full of life and fulfillment can grow. Yes, this is the same concept of shunning him out, but there is a difference between shunning an abu- human than shunning out an innocent child or an adult just because they didn't allow themselves to be emotionally abu- and literally controlled by fear. I don't know the situation entirely, so my sincerest apologies if I've made a mistake here. I only wish for you and her the best, happiest, healthiest lives and hope she finds peace. She sounds like such a strong woman. Best wishes and happy holidays! ❤❤❤

I can confirm from experience. I had a bad argument with my mother as a teenager (we were both technically at fault but I was a teenager and she was a grown woman...) She gave me the silent treatment for two weeks. By the end of the two weeks, I grovelled and begged her to forgive me and talk to me, and afterwards I was too frightened to argue with her again because I couldn't bear the thought of her rejecting me again. I can't possibly imagine how painful it would be for your entire family and community to do this to you. It destroys you in a way that's hard to describe. Now, I'm a lot more assertive and strong. The last time my mother tried to do this to me, I threatened to cut off contact entirely, and suddenly she wanted to discuss and resolve the issue. You can recover folks! If someone treats you like you're invisible, that's a testament to THEM and not you. It shows they're unable to handle you challenging them. They're weak. Not you. DISCLAIMER: I'm not talking about people who cut contact with a toxic family member. I'm talking about people who deliberately give the silent treatment. The difference is this: cutting off a toxic person is an act of love for yourself, but giving someone the silent treatment is an act of punishment towards them.

I grew up in a JW family, but I was adopted into it. I still had contact with my biological dad’s side so I got to experience Christmas, birthdays, etc. I always knew from an early age that this “religion” wasn’t for me. I’ve had 2 family members that were disfellowshipped and it’s disgusting. Not only do they announce it to the entire congregation, then you have to sit in the very back and leave right away. Once you’re reinstated, people still don’t just up and forget that you were disfellowshipped….and you’re still kind of judged. It’s so sad and inhumane. 😞

@Duhble072 ай бұрын
@ Excellent point. Shunning IS “a whole other level of control”. Spread via videos and elder edicts. The induced fear of “invisible punishment” disables our innate biology to nurture, replaced by a fear of those we should love. JW’s emphasize verses about “fear, hate, and punishment”. While Jews emphasize verses about “love and honor”. All these verses come from the same book, but the different choice yields entirely opposite outcomes. Jews are successful and one of the most highly-educated groups, while JWs are one of the least (Pew Research).

Notice how Sonia upon returning to the JWs was without Eric and her two children. Thar’s the pitiful reality of this cult. evidently he wouldn’t convert nor have his children convert, and so she returns by herself smiling like nothing happened. After having known a woman in their faith, I gained a whole lot of insight. I got to know her on the Internet, and I thought there was a chance for us, but when I offered to come and meet her in person, she declined, saying that there were people in the fellowship all over like spies and they rat each other out when they see a member fraternizing or otherwise engaging with a non-member. I’m glad I let that one go.

For context, my brother had no interest in joining Jehovah's Witness. Well, they had a child, that poor child was being torn in different religious directions that had to be perplexing and nonsensical. My brother enjoyed decorating for Christmas, his wife looked down upon it, and this poor child was caught in the middle (this is just one example, mind you). Eventually the poor child couldn't deal with his Father's passing and the constant conflict .. decided to end their life.

This is honestly pretty fascinating, because from the point of view of someone who left their own religion, what I see is a girl who found a man who made her happy and who helped her grow to leave the JW cult, and to leave her toxic family. And then of course being ignored by her family in order to subtly push her and quietly manipulate her into joining the cult again and continuing the long process of indoctrinating people into the cult because she has children. But on the other side of things, the JWs see a toxic and disgusting girl who betrayed her family by disrespecting Jehova/God, and then she has a revelation that she made a terrible mistake and returns, redeeming herself. And that second video man... Is just so manipulative it hurts. That video is designed to be one big horrible guilt trip to make everyone thinking about leaving the JW cult fearful of the guilt and pain they will cause them and mainly their loved ones. It's nasty stuff dude.

@ghostthelizard2 ай бұрын
Honestly to me the story reads like an accident that caused two deaths seen through a religious perspective. And the reason aaron shouldnt mourn is because he was a man of high position. If the president of a nation suddenly fell into deep grief it would probably reflect on his performance in that job. You may tell yourself that this incident was punishment by the lord to make it easier to stay strong during a moment of great loss. It was also only aaron and I think some priests (?) that couldn't mourn. Everybody else could. And as mentioned, Aaron as head priest simply was not in a position where he was allowed to mourn. But of course the JWs prefer to ignore that because it doesnt fit the narrative

@chaoticcow43572 ай бұрын
@@CatholicAlyxImplying that forgiveness is always possible and that heaven is achievable if you repent isnt exactly motivating taking responsibility. You can only take responsibility if you acknowledge that you can't always be forgiven. The point of responsibility is to try and make it better, not for your own self gain, but for the gain of those you hurt. This is a huge issue in christian communities where victims are expected to just forgive culprits, and culprits are allowed to be embraced regardless of if they made the proper efforts to fix what they've done. I can't say as much about the other abrahamic religions, because I never lived in them, but I did live in Catholicism for a while before detaching myself due to the harm it did to me. I can most certainly say that those years spent in the religion, I was the most ignorant about my flaws and ignorant about what taking responsibility is and what it means to forgive.

Former JW - well from 4-18 years of age. So much bullying and nastiness especially by the children of "elders" and "ministerial servants". I was never good enough because I wasn't born into it. We weren't rich so another reason we were looked down on. I watched them be nice to homeless until they got baptised and then they ignored them. Worse 14 years of my life as I didn't belong "in the world" and no one wanted to be my friend in the religion. Did everything they said age 7 to work to be baptised. Got 58/60 for the questions. Failed two about marriage (I was 15 and answered that if my spouse died I would still be married to them - that was apparently wrong - the other question was similar) but was turned down so another girl could be on show to be baptised as the only one - yeah.... I walked away at 18 leaving everyone behind when I was the only one not invited to the engagement party of one of the girls my age. I knew I didn't belong there and now I didn't have to stay. I will never be in another religion again. I don't trust now. I hate what I was taught and how long it took to undo that.

I know JW’s who feel strongly that disfellowshipping is wrong and not biblical and does not show love yet they go along with what the organization says hoping it will change and they will get “new light”. The recent very minor changes give them hope that it’s changing and evidence of Jehovahs love…I wonder why they don’t question why they have known this “new light” decades before the governing body and why Jehovah allowed so much pain and torture to “his people” before revealing this “new light”. This can be applied to the blood issue and their countless other nonsensical beliefs they follow mindlessly. None of it makes any sense. Ugh 😑

He was told not to show signs of mourning and to continue his priestly duties, but he was also ordered to mourn along with his family. “But your kinsmen, the whole house of Israel, shall bewail the burning which the Lord has brought about” (Lev. 10:6). God specifically instructed them to weep for his sons’ sins. It made it seem like this story isn’t entirely harsh. So, I wonder what happened to Eric? Did he marry her? Is he her kids’ father? It’s a bit strange that he just disappears after she left.

Also, it's strange to me that Sonja was apparently disfellowshipped for 15 years, some of them supposedly spent with Eric the non-believer, and not once did she doubt god?

They needed to demonstrate a way for her to find her way back to Jehovah, which is super tricky if no one is talking to you. At the time this video was published, it appeared her only way back in was to attend a Kingdom Hall, and deal with all these eyes on you and no one saying Hello. They needed to feed her a re-entry script so a disfellowshipped person would know what to say to get back in.. "I thought my sin was too big for Jehovah". Now, due to their newfound, financially imposed enlightenment, they are now allowed to at least say "Hi, how are you?" How generous! I'm sure all the disfellowshipped will be immediately leave their new lives where they don't have to pester strangers going door to door like unpaid Kirby vaccuum cleaner salespeople, and rush right back in.

When I was 12, we got a new Circuit Overseer, he had a 12 daughter who was baptized since she was 10, and of course, all the adults would use her as an example to all kids to get baptized that young, she was already a full-time publisher. I would roll my eyes every time anybody would tell me to be like her, I remember being that same age and thinking how ridiculous the whole thing was to get baptized that young, at that age all you think about is home work, playing games, TV. The last thing on your mind should be to go out and preach every day as a kid.

It genuinely astounds me how family can just deadass pretend someone doesn't exist purely because of differing beliefs like ??? You finna take the side of a hypothetical being rather than the flesh and blood you RAISED? Like this shits real and its so insane that it happens WAY more commonly than a lot of people would probably think.

My childhood best friend was a Jehovas Witness. She could never celebrate anything! She couldn't even say the pledge of allegiance at school. It was so odd. Her parents were mean, too. 😔 I hope she's out of that "cult" now.
