@@rdf098311 well an empires success is not a measure of its commitment to the wellness and needs of its population. Hierarchies typically are not based on oxytocin or vassopresin bonding hormones. Without that everybody gets treated as an outgroup. Ideas like patriotism are not nuanced policy consequences insights. It’s a propoganda tech because ingroup favoritism does not need to be taught. But for propoganda based patriotism that ties into terror management and attatchment theory dynamics. Then because society is not deliberate designed for the population but rather a multi-polar evolutionary psyc process and genetic brain structure and social / bio-psycho-social model of causation, basically you can’t also have a society that’s “for the American population” that is held together by disgust, contempt and shame.

There is little humanity and nearly all of the administration- starting with the top, is fueled by a horrid anger. This is a recipe for disaster. He says in the 1930's there was a shift to the right in many countries falling into authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideologies, and full on fascism and in cyclical fashion, many aspects of the 1930's are evident today. Then he says, but wait, I am not saying Trump and his MAGA administration are fascists and this current right shift may be only transitory. Basically, buy my book but don't take it too seriously because now it may look like the 1930's but then again maybe not. What? The only person who currently appears to have guts is Larry Summers when he says things like "Trump's treasury 3-3-3 plan is not achievable and will be a disaster for the economy". @@tboughnou Current count is that Trump won the plurality, 49.9% vs Kamala's 48.3%, which is the smallest margin since 2000, of the popular vote. But a win is still a win. Given that Biden won all three, and with much larger vote margin (51.3% vs 46.9%) and 7 million more total votes (81,283,501 votes vs Trump's 74,223,975 votes), I suppose it's also fair to say that Biden and Democrats had a bigger mandate in 2021?

@seyi8206 If you believe the numbers from 2020 I suppose you are correct. I would like to ask, where did all those Democrat votes go? Some 4.5 million people seem to have changed their minds. Current vote totals show a difference of @ 4,524,292 less votes this time than in 2020 about the same amount of votes Biden won by in 2020 Also with the electoral college it was 306(Biden), 232(Trump). Vs. 312 now for Trump vs 226 Harris. This time Trump won all the swings states , so I quess they swung back to The R side.

@@stfn4472 He clearly uses very diplomatic words to sound either neutral, or as pro-Trump as possible. For example he uses the word "renovate" (with positive connotations) when stuff like education programs will be getting gutted, but he will likely profit handsomely from Trump himself. He also uses the word "war" frequently because it can resonate with some of Trump's supporters. Trump's supporters might not want war with Russia or Iran, but they might want war with China, because it's a rising threat that could completely usurp America's role in the world. Of course they're not thinking about the possibility that they themselves will get drafted into the war, even if they're 30-40+ years old. I mean some of the MAGA outreach to Russia is in the fantasy that the Russians will somehow unite with Trump against the Chinese.

Your analysis of historical cycles and the dollar's power is compelling, but I wonder if the modern world is messier than past power transitions. Yes, we see classic signs - US relying on dollar privileges, internal polarization, and a rising China. But today's dollar system has network effects and global embeddedness that make it different from past reserve currencies. The Taiwan situation is fascinating because it's not just about the island - it's a test of US credibility that could affect the whole dollar system. That said, China's capital controls and political structure make the yuan an imperfect replacement. Maybe we're heading toward something more fragmented rather than a clean handover of power? I'm not convinced we'll see China simply take over as world hegemon like past transitions. Too many differences today - nuclear weapons change conflict calculus, economies are deeply interlinked, and information flows totally differently. Plus China has its own major hurdles (aging population, real estate bubble, authoritarian limits on innovation). Feels more likely we're heading toward a messier multi-polar world. Maybe regional power blocks with their own financial/tech systems? US and allies, China and its sphere, maybe EU, India etc becoming more independent. Not as clean as historical empire-to-empire handovers, but maybe that's what modern complexity creates. Looking at internal chaos in US though...who knows. Curious what others think about this "fragmented future" possibility vs clean power transition?

The conflict we have right now is not between the extreme left and the extreme right. The problem we have right now is with the extreme right. You said that a big thing that you look for is for people to stop following the rules. January 6th 2020 was a huge breach of those rules. I would think you would have more to say about that. Howdy hi hi, If there is one thing that Little Donny excels at doing. It is in exposing how tenuous our hold on power really can really be seen. We excel economically due to the reality of the industrial enhancements we built for world war 2. In combination with our role as the world's gun dealer. Including of course all the various aircraft, ships, tanks and other vehicles, weapon systems, and munitions. We see humongous income from our allies who buy our military gear. Without this reality, we would be basically on par with all other industrialized nations when viewed on a per capita basis. That being said, our 345 million in population does play an important role as well. Mr. Dalio, I respect you, and your intellect. But I would submit to you the idea that the so called world order is little more than window dressing. We love to chant about how we're number one! I say, who cares? We don't have to be dominant in the world to survive and prosper. We don't have to lead the world, to have value in the world. We would, I say, do much better overall, if we were to acknowledge the value of others who are outside our borders. We would do well to accept responsibility for the consequences of the bad things we also do. Leadership was never about dragging others behind us. It has always been about showing the way forward and inviting the crowd to follow. Far easier to climb a mountain when you only have to lift your own weight. As opposed to trying to lift and carry the entire team.
