Oh man, brings me back to 2007 when I had the same issue with my Sierra. I tried so many things. My buddy comes over, pops the hood, pulls the cable right off and says, "this is your problem..." After 2 days of getting rides to work, he fixed it in 30 seconds!!! I now NEVER undertighten battery cables!!! Lesson learned!! Lol!

Great video and new series. I love the drama of the battery. Seems like the most stressful emergencies end up being so simple when calmer heads prevail.

Happened before to me and the family on a long trip in our excursion. Connections seemed tight but were not. Finally found it when trying to jump the battery. Tightened the connector down and all went well after that. Good luck in your travels.

I've had that problem before. Thankfully, it wasn't in the middle of nowhere because I didn't have a second battery or jump box. Now, the first things I check on all cars that seem to be dead are the terminals. Sometimes you just have to end up in certain situations to find the simple solutions that aren't always obvious.

Ooh man that was some drama with the battery! That's why it's so important to have proper support equipment like the battery jumper, voltmeters, proper wrenches, etc. Glad the issue is fixed now!

Had similar issue once on my start battery, but it was the other bolt in the positive lead, not the one on the battery clamp but the one that lets the clamp pivot.

Love the content as usual, but I’m looking forward to seeing a larger expedition as I feel like the Solo series avoids pushing limits as to not get in a situation that would require another vehicle. A couple additional hands to film and we’ll get some longer episodes too. 👀 I used to make popcorn and wait for the PanAmerican series.

My experience with Toyota battery terminals is, replace them with Marine grade battery terminals. Toyota ones are cheap and flimsy. Marine grade are solid and make more contact with the battery post. Also the have slots available to attach accessories. Great video and good job on figuring out a solution.

Yeah that modified terminal for the dual battery setup was ah..different. LOL. Add this to the preflight checklist. And some basic battery/alternator function training.

Great video. One thing of importance is when jumping a battery, connexions should be made Positive first on both ends, then Negative. This is a safety issue if a cable is dropped or get loose since the car chassis is on the negative side. If done as actually shown in the video, dropping the positive cable will result in a short circuit and risk of fire or explosion. This should be corrected on this video.

I remembered when I started driving my papa always say ...what ever happens negative clamps should never be on by itself. "Always think positive 1st before thinking negative" as in life goes for jumping batteries too!

Excellent editing and videography as usual with the series. @expedition overland, why the change in format from the previous and successfully series like Alaska? Among the excellent videography, the early seasons (planning, adventure, offroading) are what set the XO group apart from many of the others on KZbin. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Surprised that you're not set up to flick a switch and start using the aux battery? I guess jumper cables work fine, but is there a reason to not have that option. I have my dual battery system set up this way and it saved me once when I accidentally drained the starter battery.
@samsonitte4 жыл бұрын
When on a trip with the family one of the things you should avoid saying is, "this isn't good" ,with the kids within ear-shot. Having a dead battery is not an easy problem to find a solution, but nice work finding a way around. That auxiliary battery was a life saver.
