Busy watching all the episodes, and just amazing to see the American vehicles driving in Botswana/Namibia. In this video @ 13:17 min, you mention a shot up Land Cruiser. That vehicle is actually a 1980 Isuzu KB. You also mentioned the 300 series Land Cruisers you wish you had in North America, well same goes for us in South Africa that we wish we got your big Toyota trucks. Great footage to watch !! The pace required to complete a filming agenda is one thing, but stopping to help that girl is on another world of planetary humanitarianism. Thank you guys for allowing your schedule to accommodate paying respect and offering your help to villagers who have little to no resources. This truly brought a tear to my eye and I thank you for going above and beyond a normal “show” production to just stop, be human and connect with what is around you. Hats off amigos!

After watching XOverland for a few years it’s always amazing what you can learn. I was amazed, in the last two episodes, to learn that one of my distant relatives was an explorer in southern Africa. We didn’t know that until last Sunday and when I sent the kids a screen shot of the summit of Van Zyls pass they were thrilled. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've been watching your videos for several years now and I'm a huge fan. I've already been overlanding in Africa many times. I love the African style of overlanding and I'm also a huge fan of the US overlanding scene. You're such a very likeable team and it's so much fun to watch this series. Seeing how you deal with problems and seeing how the American overlanding style combines with the South African style. Traveling and overlanding is one of the best ways for people to understand each other. What you've done here and how you do it cannot be valued highly enough in these difficult times. It's great that you have some of the best South African overlanders by your side. If I ever ship my Jeep from Bavaria to the USA (the plan is still there!) then I'll visit you in Montana. That is one awesome show you guys! I stumbled by accident across it. I was searching for videos about South Africa. And I also do some off roading in Alberta. That why it instantly grabbed me, when I saw it. Last summer, I had the unbelievable opportunity to spend 3 wonderful weeks in South Africa. I think every day about it. I came across that poem, and I believe almost everyone that has been to Africa, can agree with me, that’s what I feel when I think about Africa. AFRICA SMILED written by Bridget Dore in 1995 (dedicated to Nelson Mandela) Africa smiled a little When you left. "We know you," Africa said, "We have seen and watched you, We can learn to live without you, But we know we needn't yet." And Africa smiled a little When you left "You cannot leave Africa," Africa said. "It is always with you, There inside your head." And Africa smiled a little. Hi, Van Zyl's pass was built by Ben van Zyl in 1960 and opened in 1965. He was appointed Commissioner of Bantu Affairs in the Koakoveld in 1947 and built the pass to enable him to visit the area under his control a little bit easier.

1947? Apartheid and its laws were in 48'... In 47' we were still a British colony and followed their rules and used their currency. In 1910 the British gave it to the Afrikaners to run it for them while they were stealing the gold and running it from behind the scenes. In 1902 after the war the first thing the British did in Joburg was increase the gold production to pre-war lvls again. In 1914 they basically forced us to fight their war on germany(ww1), in 1916 the afrikaner uprsing was violently queled, assisinated one of our leaders too, in 1922-24 the afrikaans workers uprising violently queled again. We were in the backseat in our own country of birth while we were a British puppet country. Anything pre-apartheid laws is partly British fault, if not all, as even during ww2 our puppet leaders chose Britain's side in a war that had nothing to do with SA. Aus, New Zealand, Canada were all also still part of the crown and dont think for one moment their native population weren't treated any better than SA's were just because we had the Afrikaners aswell as the British.

I never agreed with placing the shocks upside down but there you go, a great example of what happens when you place a shock upside down. Now Icon had to ad a few ounces of weight to protect the shaft and it created problems on the trail. Keep it simple. Toyota designs things simple for a reason. Dont do that with your shocks. Awesome video, overall.

As an outside observer and being and having traveled traveled Southern Africa your biggest challenge is a too tight schedule. Africa is NOT like the rest of the world, time is an extremely relative construct here. Should you ever return take it slower and explore more, you've driven past some of the greatest jewels of Southern Africa. Great video none the less.
