Darren-Edward Oneill Thanks?!?? Yes... there was a short disconnect on the subject matter for the moment there including the stabilizers on the wall. Sorry if this was a distraction. What can I say... there is still beauty found in imperfections and I for one am truly "imperfect." ;-)But we all strive for perfection... even if it only remains a chase after the wind. Critical eye and attention to detail...make the finer things in life... like aircraft. Thank you for adding to the world your creations as a designer and a builder and as a human being. I THANK YOU for taking the time to watch this video, and maybe others that I produce, and I ask you to LIKE and then SUBSCRIBE to follow along as each and every one of these get better one video at a time. The goal is to increase Production Value whilst the same time be an encouragement to the aviation community. If you are currently building an aircraft...JOIN ME in sharing. I just created a video highlighting that very thing. Check it out and contribute if you would so be inclined. Thank you Darren-Edward Oniell! - Bryan

@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel I realized shortly after posting that I probably let my bad day get the better of me, was still annoyed at the distraction but certainly don't expect perfection being sorely imperfect myself. The simple truth is I really enjoy your uploads and subjects... keep bringing us the builds that inspire! Long ago sub'd and I always like what I see despite sometimes grumpy impulse reactions. I must say getting back to the build, his choice of installing RC servos raised my eyebrows, I'm fully behind modifying designs especially if it saves the builder time and money (like the foam ribs, something I've employed as well) but I can not imagine the FAA certifying RC electric parts for operation in the critical applications of a man carrying sailplane - it's not the load or stress capability of these servos that worry me it's the tendency to fail randomly with no redundancy design because there's no need in RC. I installed several autopilot systems on a variety of types and the servos and motors or actuators are all industrial and much bigger than RC components in even the lightest experimental. Very special to me to witness wood builds, still the best material for aeronautics IMHO. I wish you were in SA you could report on my builds and designs. Great work

Five years (so far?). These guys have a lot more patience than I do. I built a LongEZ in 23 months while I was working full time. A really nice one too, put 18 air race trophies on my "I love me" wall. I've thought about building a ULF 2 motor glider with more wingspan/aspect ratio for better performance. The designer told me not to go over 10 meters with the span but didn't say why. Not being from Canada or Yerp I'm not exactly sure what a meter is but I guess I could Google it LOL.

Built a few RC gliders and single piston planes. Only thing different is the scale. And how it hurts if you have a crash. So neat watch people build stuff that can fly. It will be great to see it in the air.

I have been working w/ CAD (cardborad aided design) on automotive sheet metal for years, now. The best template material out there. Nice build and I really liked that design improvement, where he did away w/ the myrriad of pulleys and bell cranks to a simple lever assembly for his spoiler. I don't think I ever built a model plane exactly to its specs, as there always seems to be a better way to do things, given some time to ruminate.

What if you test 'Royalite', or the 4mm thick concrete hull kart depicted in 'The Indian Concrete Journal', Oct 2004, pp 43-44, built in Karlsruhe? The B&V-246 gliding bomb had Sorel concrete wings, but it does not admit irons. Gesund +

I have been pondering the possibility of doing a “light hybrid” type setup for an aircraft. It’s a hybrid system GM used for a while, it’s ideal for small aircraft I think because it can be made lighter than most alternatives depending on use case. I think it may help for homebuilts where there are a lack of ideally sized gasoline engines available.

Hello Mr. Obrecht! Could you give me some idea of what the cost for all the materials would be, at current ex-works prices? (I'll worry about shipping costs etc. later). Also, to your knowledge, are sets of plans still available and what would these cost? At this point, I just want to get a a realistic overall "ballpark" figure for my own info and others who might be interested in sharing with me the expenses, construction work and the flying, once it's complete.

That's great until one servo fails with the spoiler up on one side while your low and slow on final.. You better make sure you have enough rudder to over compensate for a stuck spoiler. I have been building scale r/c models for 40 years, and even the best servos fail sometimes. Also, there is no way on God's green earth I would fly that glider with the covering stopping only a inch or two past the leading edge sheeting. If there is a sane one in the bunch, I pray they will convince them to wrap the covering completely around the leading edge of the wing. Forget about how pretty the wood is going to look with the stain on it, wrap the darn covering completely around the leading edge, Please. You guy's are asking for major trouble. I assume there will be no rib stitching either, and your just depending on the glue. If just a little bit of air get's under that covering, it's all over but the crying. I am familiar with that "new" covering and glue they are using as well. I am also a licensed pilot of 35 years, so I do have a little credibility. I'm not but an hour away, and I'll help come help cover it! I'm not trying to rain on anyone's dream, and I'm sure its a great flying design, but please reconsider your covering decisions. No one's life is worth the appearance of some finely stained wood. I know the covering and glue has been tested and "approved", but that covering method is a huge huge red flag, even with a VNE of 50. I wouldn't even cover a model that way! Sorry for my rant, I just don't want anyone to get hurt, or worse!

That's actually how many vintage gliders are covered. Coming from rc I thought they were crazy, but covering the whole wing adds a lot more weight. I'd still do the whole wing, it's much more durable then.

Why is electric „new technology“? Isnt it older than any combustion engine?
@ExperimentalAircraftChannel
@ExperimentalAircraftChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Martin Kaufmann Maybe we should say "new to aviation" as it seems that there is a shift beginning for aircraft (at least smaller aircraft) to go electric. Historically I believe you are correct... just the technology (i.e. batteries) were never advanced enough until now to begin use in aircraft. Thanks for watching! I appreciate you engaging here as well.
