Explaining Pacman's Peculiar Hitboxes (Smash Ultimate)

So today we are taking a look at the first of many round fighters, starting off with pacman! Despite being round he does have some fairly out there hitboxes, but what better way to find that out than to take a look.

The weird thing about Pac Man's up tilt is that his smash 4 one was already not that good, so they really wanted to make sure you don't want to use it in ultimate. Not that I'm complaining, he has penty of other good moves to choose from.

3:13 Pac Man's grab gotta have the most insane glow up coming from Smash 4. That thing beats spotdodges consistently now

Pac man's grab was atleast the worst in Smash 4 (besides Smash 4 Ganondorf), but the buffed the crap out of that grab that the grab has to be probably the best grab in the game. I main Pac man for 7 years and I tell you, I remember having so many issues with that grab back in Smash 4. I'm so glad they buffed the grab for ultimate, because I could make really good combos with that grab! It's insane how it went terrible to now godlike!

Side-B actually has Super Armor. How I know is because I tested with it with a Ganon at 999%. yeah

Looking at 2:45 the hitboxes for his dash attack, I just now realized that his tongue is his shoes packed into his mouth, complete with the purple highlights.

That's only because the model scaling doesn't work in the hitbox visualizer, so his feet aren't being shrunk down

It's got the same knockback strength as Kirby Forward smash, from my testing in the training room. It's quite strong, although not even close to the most powerful forward smash. Honestly, when I compare Pac-man and Kirby in my head, it makes me realize how much Pac-man doesn't deserve a forward smash that strong.

Tbh pac-man's worst move is probably dilt cuz angled f-tilt is just better since uptilt is a pretty nice combo extender that can also anti air alot of airels, also up b is more then just a recovery move and is a good out of shield option plus it can block projectiles and works as a mini fire hydrant since ur opponent is forced to jump over it to approach

Lucario was a mystical Pokémon who combined physical attacks with some kind of special energy, had a charge blast neutral special with a hitbox while charging up, and a command grab side special. This led people to theorize he was a "replacement" for Melee Mewtwo. Pac-Man is a third-party character with weird projectiles, a down special that places a lingering hazard, a backwards double leg thrust back air and multi-kick down air, and a side special you can guide with additional directional input. Was Pac-Man in Smash 4 designed as a replacement for Snake...?

PAC-MAN main here, side special absolutely has super armor after eating the power pellet. Which usually makes this move an incredibly reliable move to recover with because of said super armor.

Well, you can hit the Hydrant and clank with its hitbox as it's descending, but you can't launch it like you can when it's on the ground.

while pac man is a cool character hes also the prime example of whats wrong with ultimates zoners. its good that he has tools for close combat but the tools he has are WAY to good for a zoner

I actually think he’s quite well designed. His two zoning tools, hydrant and fruit, don’t do much to reward camping. Fruit is not spammable at all and needs to be charged and used up close for his game plan, while hydrant doesn’t do anything to you if you respect it and the most it will hurt is when pac punishes you breaking it or jumping over

His tools arnt good to deal damage far away but they do force the opponent in a tricky situation hydrant you are forced either respect it or challenge it and if you challenge it’s very predictable on what you do the same can be said with trampoline but if you respect it you let him charge bell AND BELL IS THE MOST BROKEN THING EVER USED RIGHT

Side b is a reference to the arcade game, using pellets to get stronger. Up b is a reference to Mappy, whose trampoline he uses. Neutral special... I think that's an arcade game thing too.

@@4xzx4 I main the character, and you can get some good use out of it. It's a pretty good tool at ledge, especially since his kit specializes in traps, and it being able to linger adds some extra benefit since it can catch some late options. And frame 15 is pretty good for how big it is, being able to catch ledge hangs and two frame. Also no, it does not "lack knockback".

@@vick7868 I have mained the characters as well. But that doesn't matter. Move is mediocre at best. Every move has something good about them - doesn't automatically make them good though. Ganondorf's Warlock Punch has insane knockback and super armor which can soak up a laggy move then hit back with a devastating punch. Still a bad move.
