I was there a few weeks ago, but the tunnels were closed. But I see I didn't miss too much. The modern pipes they installed have completely ruined the place. The baths on the otherhand were absolutely incredible and my favorite ruins in Rome by far! I can't believe this place is almost completely unknown to tourists.

Thank you! I discovered your videos prior to our 2nd trip to Rome this June and I was looking for some "new" sites to see. Your videos provided what to see. We started at the Museo delle Mura and Aurelian Wall and then hiked to the Caracalla Baths. Wish I would have known about under the baths when we went. It was 104 degrees and it would have been nice to cool off before walking to Bascilica di San Giovanni in Laterano ;) We survived and had a great day! Very few people and just overwhelmed by the size of the baths. Thank you!

Hi Elyssa, I have found your videos and website incredibly helpful as I plan my trip to Rome. I would like to ask you which are the best catacombs to visit in Rome? And can you recommend a tour company that offers small group tours. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. 😊
@Romewise5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Belinda! I'm glad you find my videos helpful. It's hard to answer the "best" of something archeological in Rome, because there is so much amazing stuff to see. The Catacombs on the Appia Antica are the easiest to visit, because they are together, and they are near other stuff so you can visit a lot in one day. Also, most of the tour companies do tours there, even though you can also go with a tour from the place itself. My personal favorite Catacomb is Priscilla. It's in a completely different area, so you will have to go there specifically to see it, but it's astounding. There is supposedly the first image of Mary and Jesus there on the ceiling. A couple of really good tour companies I suggest are Roma Experience and Context Travel. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much! It depends on which part of the City Centre you are referring to, and how you plan to get around Rome. It's about a 15-minute walk from the Circo Massimo metro station, which is part of Ancient Rome, which is definitely part of the historical center of Rome. If you are talking about how far from say, the Spanish Steps, I'd say it's at least an hour's walk, but it's easy to reach on the metro or by bus. I have directions for getting there on the website.
