This one is not on the Military database, so I went and mapped it and took some photos. #ww2 #history #explore

6 pounder position I'd think, with the large opening at the front. Rather a nice find!

My guess is it was covering the main road and the important road crossing of the river Rother. Its one of the main routes to London from my part of the coast.

That's awesome, so cool you can add to the history books :D

"Who do you think you are kidding Mr Jim Bob", very interesting mate and just shows you how real the threat was. Those lads had to be ready to pop up and sort business. Maybe it will come around again? There are still Aux units dug outs dotted around the UK. A good number I bet lost. Hope you are in good form mate, all best.

The is a few underground communication bases near me. I guess because we were on the front line. The French coast is only 30 miles from me.

I think someone has had a clear out. I dont remember it being like that as a child. But to be fair, that was 40+ years ago. 😂

Nice Alan. Always used to fascinate me as a kid. Pill boxes, that is. We have a line of them past our town. About 4 that I can think of. Visited one only a couple of weeks ago for childhood memories. They go down toward the south coast to the Weymouth area, I think, as there are a couple down there which connect at Abbotsbury. A beach one, then one up on a hillside as you walk the coastal path to West Bexington. Not sure if you know them, but if you park up in Abbotsbury and walk up to St Catherine’s Chapel, you can then go down over the hill towards the Swannery and join the coastal path there. You will reach the sub tropical botanical gardens, then double back on your self on a path following the road back to Abbotsbury and pick your car back up. I did this walk a few weeks ago. All the best.😉👍🏾🇬🇧

@@frogmaster83 Wow. Cool. Thanks Alan. I wonder how long they all took to build? There are a fair few of them, isn’t there. All the best.😉👍🏾🇬🇧

@@Soggz7785 The were all built quite quick. The was a few basic shapes and local builders were contracted to build many of them.

@@frogmaster83 They are mainly the hexagonal ones around this area. As you move closer to the south coast, they seem to become more square in shape and buried into the hill sides.

I Say Allan Old chap! As Alex @randomhato said 💯 Strategic 6lber gun emplacement with side Bren Machine gun loop holes. You have the leg stands there. Front flaring brickwork to openings and fixing positions as standard. As you say protecting a vulnerable point road and canal. Similar to the one we have on the Dorking Gap that Alex and I visited. You'll have to come and see it. When you going to do a camp in it? 😁🙏 Would make a splendid transmission. Catch you soon Old chap! Ohh and you already logged the pillbox on your channel which is awesome so if the other "Official sites" are not grateful to you we certainly are and then it's the two finger salute to them! Probably more expertise on here than any of theirs! Awesome Old chap! ♨️S

Thank goodness they never had to be used! We haven't got any in the West Midlands but I suppose if Jerry got as far as Brum we would have been screwed. Lest we forget!

Thank God the German's weren't able to invade, those men in side those ww1 style pillboxes I wouldn't like to think , everything had moved on by 1940 , when we landed in France 1944 the day of the pillbox was over .

It would make a great bothy and as such it's rental could pay for its upkeep and restoration, plus protection from vandalism to an extent.
