Agree, if you learn a functional grappling system and a functional striking system you should be ready for most self defense situations. I have been training bjj for about 6 years (purple belt currently), in my gym we cross train wrestling once a week to improve our take downs and recently we started doing boxing/mma on Fridays to supplement our grappling with some striking, it definitely helps you a lot as a grappler to cross train some striking.

Yes, I think you did the right analyse. You should start with boxing, its so simple but effective. You also learn to take punches. The next level is muay-thai. A thai boxer will usually win against a boxer, becourse they dont know how to defend themselves against those kicks. Check out on youtube when "big daddy" Ridick Bowe, who was a worldchampion got his ass kicked in a thaiboxing match by a much smaller guy in Thailand ! BJJ is exellent for grappling and groundfighting, but I doubt if it is better than russian Sambo ? Fedor Emelianeko was a sambist. In Russia they also learn Sambo in the russian specialforces Spetznaz troops.

So you trained mma and wing Chun for 2 years, boxing + kicks in 8 years and you still had time to get a physique like that? Damn. I do MMA since 6 years and I'm skinny like Max Holloway, even with 3 S&C sessions a week for an hour and a half 😅 and can't kick as high as you! All the blessings for you and your channel mate, is never too late I guess
