Yeah. Like, gen 1-3 toys and media were my first introduction to and what got me to get into MLP (in general, not just FiM) in the first place. 5:36 Funny enough, upon re-visiting this show I also found a striking resemblance to a range of personality disorders. I have a slightly different take on this tho. - Twilight is neurotic/suffers from anxiety - Pinkie Pie is the embodiment of a Sad Clown paradox and most likely is Histrionic - Rarity is an obsessive-compulsive drama queen with a habit of emotional eating (maybe even bulimia) - Fluttershy doesn't have social anxiety alone, it is caused by severe PTSD (watch Hurricane Fluttershy episode) As for Rainbow Dash and Applejack, I don't know much about hypomania or MPD, but the post author gives pretty convincing arguments. Also Pinkie's family as a whole is pretty troubled. Maud appears to be autistic (also her lack of emotion and social withdrawal points to Schizoid personality) and Marble has worse social anxiety than Fluttershy. It should be noted that Pies are most likely modelled after the Amish, which hints to many ways of abuse. So yeah, Equestria isn't so happy-go-lucky as it appears to be. After all, it's not devoid of evil. Just remember the "equality" cult Starlight was running, which appears to have flown completely under Celestia's radar. But even that pales in comparison to the savage dog-eat-dog world beyond it, which was shown in the movie. The show is also riddled with psychological references. For example - in Winter Wrap Up you can see two porcupines nearly impaling each other while trying to hug. In psychology that's known as "Hedgehog's dilemma". In another episode in last seasons Starlight is sent to Canterlot to solve a "friendship problem" between the two sisters, which literally puts her in a position of their therapist. And later on (SPOILER ALERT) she becomes a counselor at Twilight's school. Oh, and Cozy Glow is a textbook psychopath. All in all, I'm not surprised. I made a similar argument for Owl House: the most appealing characters are usually the ones that are flawed and damaged. The show would be boring otherwise.

I know there's also a lot of toy-related stuff on the iceberg, but I'm a very casual toy collector so I don't know too much. Off the top of my head there's the g1 pony friends based on animals where there's a giraffe, lion, and zebra, and there's another line where's a sheep and a cow off the top of my head. I also know of a controversial toy which depicts a native american stereotype from one of the earlier generations but can't remember anything about it. There's also the toy Lily Blossom from g4 who had a unique design which never appeared on the show, as opposed to other toys which borrow molds from the main cast. She also appears with the main cast in some promotions. I feel also like toy redesigns also might count as obscure iceberg stuff? They're common among toy collectors who are also fans of g4 or who just like to reimagine old toys that never appeared again

@@Shunks If you're interested about random toy facts for icebergs there's stuff I can mention : Nirvanas : back during G1 hasbro sold producing rights to multiple companies around the world so they could make ponies in their factories. This lead to a lot of ponies being made in other countries than the usual China and Hong Kong, and most of them differ from the regular ones, going from slight changes in colors to ponies that don't look like any regular ones Reverse Gusty : a factory error on Gusty that results in her two hair colors being swapped (red with a green streak instead of green with a red streak). Its rarity (only 2 or 3 exists) and the huge debates to see whether the ones found after the first one were authentic made it one of the most iconic rare ponies in the collecting fandom Lesbian ponies : some collectors (myself included) see g1 Moondancer and Glory as a lesbian couple because of a porcelain figure representing them in wedding attires Mlp wasn't supposed to be colorful : at first Bonnie Zacherle wanted to make a line of pony toys with realistic colors, which is why My Pretty Pony is how she is. Hasbro then decided to have them be colorful instead. Celestial ponies : they were a planned set of g1 ponies that never got released, we have concept art of them though. Dream Beauties : technically not mlp but they're connected. They were a short lived hasbro toyline of colorful model horses, they were advertised as being grown up mlp ponies. Male ponies in female molds : for some reason some ponies from late g1 that are supposed to be male use molds that had previously been exclusively used for female ponies (boys usually had their own molds with fetlocked hooves). Examples include Baby Schoolbag, Sports-Time and all the dads from the second wave of families.

I had no idea My Little Pony had so much depth! This series definitely seemed to gain a lot of traction. If I had to make thumbnails for this series I think I'd focus on the it goes deeper part by pointing an arrow lower and lower on the iceberg, having it more to the left and then fill up the rest of the scene with one bold pony and maybe if it needs something else add something relevant from that year? Try and keep it simple, I'd consider leaving PART 2 for the title, and maybe just keep a pink #2 in the corner. Just try and balance the image and not feature anything too small (like what you have in the bottom left). Alternatively you could scratch the iceberg on the images (except the first), and photoshop a snorkel onto a pony under water. Regardless it looks like this series was a huge success in your niche! Congrats!

Update to add to the timeline theory: gen 5 takes place in the bad timeline. Unicorns, pegusi, and earth ponies have all broken apart and there is rampant r*cism between the three groups. Sunny *does* manage to bring the three back together, however her idea of how the Mane 6 acted is based on her own childhood memories of her father's storytelling. The journal looks the way it does because it never split, like is shown in FiM. The journal holds the stories from seasons 1-4 and the misadventures from Pony Life

Regarding the timeline theory, G1 had a television special involving Tirac (the G1 version of Tirek) and Scorpan, where Tirac tries to to turn ponies into dragons to pull his "Chariot of Darkness". And In Twilight's Kingdom (Tirek's first appearance in G4), it's mentioned that there was a previous incident where Tirek and Scorpan tried to steal Equestrian magic before Scorpan reformed. Could it be that the incident mentioned in Twilight's Kingdom was the incident at Midnight Castle from G1? Of course, this idea is probably not true and it has many holes in it, such as the two incidents being described differently. Regardless, I like the idea so I thought I'd share it.
