This one was the one I remembered fondly growing up, I was accustomed to this one as well as the 2003 show more than the original cartoon and 90's movie. I couldn't agree more. I caught this one completely at random when flipping channels one day and was really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. When I heard it was headed to theatres, for some reason I dismissed it as just being a tie-in for the then-current cartoon (which I am not fond of) rather than being a reboot or continuation of the film series. I would have *loved* for the series to continue in this direction.

I was a kid when this one came out and was watching the 2003 version of the turtles and I think this was intended to be a continuation of that as many of the designs are similar and some of the characters like Karai where in it but not the previous live action films, however it does work as its own film which is a great strength and I also agree that its a good film that's often overlooked by older turtle fans and I would have loved to have seen more like it, love your channel BTW you've given some interesting insight into many films I dismissed as bad or never bothered to watch, so please keep up the great work!

I saw TMNT in theaters twice when I was still in college. I'll always remember how I scared nearly everyone in the theater when I cheered seeing Raph on the big screen again. Loved the animation, the look, the fights, the voice work, and the references to the previous films. The only part that always kinda bugged me was how April knew about the story of Winters character; it just came out of nowhere. Other than that, solid. I'm also happy to see an internet review where it DOESN'T bash the film.

CHECK OUT TURTLES FOREVER! (2009) It's a crossover with 3 gens. of the animated turtle series from 1st gen which was silly, to the B-W comics gen. thats hardcore and serious. with the last animated series(2003) in the middle and existing all in the same universe. They take on 2 different shredders! it's got to be the most creative TMNT movie by far.

So, I was THAT age when the Ninja Turtles got big. I saw the first two movies in theaters, then many times afterward on VHS, for the several years following. I never saw the third movie, and have gone large swathes of my life basically oblivious to it. I had no idea that TMNT was meant to be a sequel to the original movies. The tumultuous relationship between the turtles felt like it was continuing from source material that I was unfamiliar with, which wasn't too weird to me, because I hadn't been in that particular loop in... 14 years? Maybe 15? While I generally enjoyed the movie, I felt like the plot and what the turtles were going through were jarringly disconnected. The specific impression I had, was that someone really wanted to tell a story about Winters/Yaotl, but the movie they were stuck making at the time was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so they just shoehorned them in to make it count. They were kind of the third wheel in their own flick. If the movie failed, this is why.

Oh shit would I love to see a City at War film!! It's one of the absolute greatest story arcs in any comics if you ask me. Especially the stuff with Splinter and the Rat King is REALLY powerful stuff. Don't know how an average TMNT fan that's only familiar with the series' and films would react to such dark and material from the franchise though. It would have to be a very adult TMNT film, and I don't mean Michael Bay-adult. It'd probably be a real shock for many people mostly know the Turtles from the '87 cartoon, but if done right with talent and care, I'm sure it could be pulled off. The story is contemplative, dark, violent, sometimes horrifying and even flat out depressing, but through and through it's just soo good. It could be the Dark Knight of TMNT after the Batman Forevers of Mr. Bay, or something. :d I'm kinda depressed now since it'll most likely never happen.

I really like this movie, and I would put it even above the 1990 movie. Being animated allowed them to do so much more, especially with the action scenes. The only issue I have with it is that it makes NO SENSE for Splinter to send Leonardo off on his own to "become a better leader". And it make even less sense for him not to tell the others that he sent Leo away. So literally all the inner family drama in this is caused by Splinter for no reason.

I don't think the marketing did this one any favors. It was released while the second series was still on tv, but didn't look anything like it (or the original series, and it certainly didn't look like the movies it was a sequel to) so it was really hard to tell which, if any, continuity it took place in. A one-off is easier to ignore, so it didn't really catch on with fans of any of the three, only fans of _all_ three. I saw it years later and enjoyed it, but I probably would have seen it in theaters if I had known it was a sequel to the other theatrical releases.
@EveryGamerLife10 жыл бұрын
I remember watching this in the theater and enjoying it, then again i was a kid then who didn't go to a lot of movies so i probably had some rose colored glasses there. I think the whole cosmic/ancient timeline angle may have confused more people and turn them off to the movie than invite new people. I remember going and wanting them to fight shredder but was ultimately satisfied with what the movies did instead. If they did just a straight retelling of their origin story but animated maybe that would have turned out better? Then again people said its too early for a Spider man reboot so who knows.

I think this movie didn't do well was because the direction of the story. I mean in the beginning we find out Leo was sent out to become a better leader. Why did he need to be a better leader, what was the fall out before hand and the like. I guess because we were thrown into a story where we had so many questions about. And also we weren't sure what universe this was in. Was it a separate one, or was it continuing from the 2003 series? I guess it would have done better if we had those answers.
