I remember microwaving a glow stick back in junior high. We had a local kids club that was basically a nightclub for ages 13-18 on friday nights. This was early 00’s and my friends and I were into raving and edm, and the microwaving a glow stick thing was this kind of urban legend that was talked about but nobody I knew had ever actually done it. So one night after I got home from the club thing and my glow sticks were getting dim I decided to try it out. Nobody ever said how long to put it in for so I stuck it in for 10 seconds and it barely got brighter so I tried again for 30 seconds. As I’m watching it it starts to get brighter and brighter until.. pop! The damn thing blew up in our microwave. Thankfully my parents didn’t hear it and get up. I tried to clean it up immediately but I burned myself while trying to wipe it up with paper towels, so I waited for it to cool off and then had to quietly clean out the microwave to cover it all up. Well guess what, my mom noticed that the microwave had been cleaned the next day and asked me about it. I told her my cup of ramen had boiled over and that I had to clean out the microwave. She bought it, my parents never found out, and I didn’t try to microwave a glow stick again after that. Though I did microwave other stuff like balls of foil and grapes, water balloons filled with hot water from the tap, pop rocks, ice cubes, all sorts of dumb stuff.
