It’s crazy how people started rating RJ after the trade. It was a lateral move for both teams talent wise, but I think fit wise it makes sense for both teams.

Yea I do like RJ & do think he will thrive in Toronto, but BDS doesn’t look at basketball objectively or doesn’t understand what “Team fit” means. I disagree with the trade thinking they could’ve gotten something better than OG since he is on an expiring deal, but he could be a good fit without being a “GREAT SCORER” lol.

As a Kobe fan, the fact that ppl take away the fact that Bron is way more athletic than Kobe like it doesn’t matter is so stupid. Bron being faster, stronger, taller, more explosive and with a better motor absolutely matters. If Kobe was born with Bron’s athleticism he might be better than Bron, but he wasn’t and that’s absolutely okay. Kobe’s game being more complex does not make him better. Bron’s game doesn’t need to be as complex as Kobe’s cuz he can get to the rim whenever he wants.

@@remcobuwalda9473 it definitely matters. I think Kobe would be even better in this era, but Bron would still have the edge mainly bc of his athleticism and passing. It’s the same reason Jordan was better, shots at the rim are the most efficient shit and if you can get to the rim whenever and finish, you’re more effective. Also same reason Bron was a better defender, it’s hard to protect the rim or switch onto a big if you’re 6’6 instead of 6’9

Agree with a lot of what you said, HOWEVER, this idea that intangibles/mentality doesn’t affect the game heavily is crazy and one of the worse concepts NBA YT tries to push. It’s basic psychology really. People respond and react to stressful situations in different ways. A lot of ppl understand the idea of fight or flight, and that even to a degree is an oversimplification. Just bc a player is more skilled does not mean that that skill will be properly utilized or even deployed when theres stressors involved. That most of the time is going to be determined by the players mentality and mindset. Also, to say Kobe is the most overrated defender of all time is out of pocket, when Lebron has a case for that to. He hasn’t been good on defense in a decade, and his best defensive years coincided with his time in Miami. Where he was coached by one of the best defensive coaches of all time. Correlation and causation. You played reel of Kobe being beat on defensive but there’s extensive vids of the same thing happening to Bron. Overall bron is better tho, imo. I don’t think the gap is as large as some may have ppl believe tho that’s just my opinion
@YungMustard
@YungMustard 5 ай бұрын
I actually think it’s hilarious you say that because LeBron definitely isn’t the defender he used to be but even since the Miami years he’s clearly turned it up defensively in the playoffs numerous times like in 2016, 2017 and throughout the entire 2020 season especially in the playoffs when they won. (also in 21 before injury also). You also said LeBron best defensive years came in Miami like he wasn’t an elite defender for part of his first cavs run. I personally think 2009 is arguably his best defensive season. But I guess you’ll tell me that was all Mike Brown huh? Lmao to credit Erik Spo with that is hilarious because Spo was not the level of coach then that he later became. Bron legit did so much for that team defensively to hide Bosh flaws and give them a secondary rim protecter and size. You really tried to downplay it with Spo and that’s hilarious to me. Kobe defense was overrated for years and I remember even Phil Jackson said he never deserved all those all defensive teams, though I don’t need his confirmation, it’s just funny that Kobe’s own coach said the same thing lmao.
@leothelion2593
@leothelion2593 5 ай бұрын
@@YungMustard I actually didn’t downplay him at all. Spo utilized him differently defensively than Mike brown did, he was asked to do a lot more in Miami (as you yourself just admitted). You just go to basketball reference to see when he had the most DWS, so you can make your argument. But it wasn’t until he got to Miami that we saw his defensive versatility bc Spo was SMART enough to deploy him that way. Thats coaching is it not? He put LeBron in different positions defensively than Mike Brown did. Which is why the year ppl think he should’ve won DPOY, it was when he was in Miami. You’re a box score watching, basketball reference merchant. Numbers don’t mean anything without context. I never said Kobe’s defense wasn’t overrated, I just said that LeBron’s defense is as well. And it has, saying LeBron “turned it up in the playoffs” doesn’t mean anything to me bc in those playoff runs through the East what insane offensive player did he play during those runs? Demar Derozan? Young JB and Tatum? Bc when he got to the finals he was getting cooked by KD. So yeah his defensive numbers may have improved but he wasn’t playing the hardest of offensive competition in the playoffs. The East was weak as hell. THE FACT IS he hasn’t made a defensive team since he left Miami, not first or 2nd team. It’s 2024. He left Miami a decade ago.

@@YungMustard and for context you said 2016, 2017, 2020 2016: was against Indiana.. PG put up 28/8/7 on poor efficiency. But that team was AWFUL. But good job Bron, then he played Toronto, Demar Derozan is known to be a bad playoff performer. Then they played IT Boston Celtics, who was the guy he so desperately needed to lock up on that team? Then the finals KD averaged 35 points on him. 2017: nearly sent home by Oladipo in the first rd. No forwards who really posed a significant threat and he did not spend a lot of possessions on Dipo. 2nd rd once again.. Demar lol 3rd Rd nearly sent home by 19 year old Tatum. Who had a really good series. And then KD put up 28 a game. 2020: Portland.. they had Dame, CJ, that’s it. Caruso and KCP did a lot of the heavy lifting in that matchup defensively on the guards. Then Houston who literally was running the smallest lineup in history, and again a steady diet of Caruso and KCP was put on Harden. Bron played more free safety roaming sort of role. Then the nuggets, the toughest assignment was given to AD. Then in the finals Jimmy put up 28/8/10 on the lakers. What crazy offensive team was lebron locking up in those years you cited? Goofy boy

Phil Jackson's own words, "Kobe's defense is overrated". That's literally the GOAT coach who watched MJ and Kobe play every night from the sidelines on his comforter seat chair. He said that Kobe too often was ballhawking, meaning he was watching the ball too much instead of his man. Kobe was notoriously awful at guarding shooters who just sat on the three point line. He would leave them or forget about them too often. Kobe's defense from 1999 to 2003 was great to good, but after that, it was quite average. I would say his defense in 2009-10 was really good, too. However, he got way too many undeserved 1st Team Defensive selections that made absolutely no sense.

I get most of your points but dawg LeBron is not better than Kobe on defense. Also consider the fact that Kobe played in a much harder era during his prime. LeBron's prime was in an ASS era and in the worst conference. Kobe was playing in the harderst era for his type of play and in the most stacked conference. When bron hit his peak there were not big men to really stop him in the post. We had niggas like DeAndre Jordan as all nba 1st team 😭. But for kobe he had to go through a lot of very good defenders, Kirk hinrich, Chauncey Billups, Ron Artest, Tony Allen. etc. As soon as a good defensive forward came he struggled. In 07 he got destroyed by the spurs because they had competent big men, lost to the celtics repeatedly mostly because of KG's defense, locked up by a 22 year old kawhi and had multiple long series with PG even when he had the heat to support him. Also don't forget that Bron also played worse than jason fucking terry in the finals. Fact is Kobe is far, FAR more skilled than Bron but Bron is athletic magic johnson. IMO bron is still higher all time than Kobe but He's not more skilled. Don't forget Kobe was a KILLER.

LeBron is CLEARLY the better defender? You sure? He’s had great moments but he also got cooked in his prime by Jason Terry in the finals. Kobe’s defence was probably a little overblown later in his career but young Kobe and prime Kobe routinely marked up against the opposing team’s best scorer from PG to SF. Every single night. LeBron is a great defender overall but those finals meltdowns weren’t just from scoring. LeBron couldn’t stop sh*t in June 2011. I agree with the “more versatile but not better” comment. I think Kobe was mentally on MJ’s level defensively. The mind games he played on defence were legendary.

What does "I think Kobe was mentally on MJ's level defensively" mean?
@nbarealtalker
@nbarealtalker 5 ай бұрын
@@QuestionEverything562 Kobe talked about how he would double team a guy who just got a fat contract and hard deny the guy in a contract year to cause internal turmoil on the opposing team because the guy in his contract year will be bitching at the guy with the big payday to get him the ball. Kobe said he studied the way sharks hunted and used angles of attack to figure out how to guard quick little guys like AI. Pretty sure Coach K told stories about Kobe telling him he wanted every toughest defensive matchup through the Olympics. Obviously a few more stories to boot. I don’t think Kobe was as great of a defender as MJ, and certainly wasn’t as great in his final years (and maybe even on one of those last all defensive teams was a reputation award). BUT, Kobe was a great defender with that assassin mentality and I don’t think he ever got cooked by anyone he guarded other than maybe an MVP AI on a few plays in the 2001 finals. Lakers still won that 4-1. There are literally compilations dating back to Miami of LeBron’s defensive collapses and meltdowns. I wouldn’t say that makes him a bad defender, he is still great, but I don’t remember Kobe ever flat out failing on defence at all. I think LeBron, while great, is living off the reputation of his big moments defensively like the chase down block in 2016 etc. I just don’t see a reason he’s CLEARLY a better defender than Kobe. Other than obviously having been big enough to guard centres at points in his career.

“Kobe had a better 3P shot” factually not close to true. Lebron > 3P% in regular season, playoffs and finals (Kobe 31% 3P% in finals also 41% FG%). LeBron playoffs clutch by far the most makes ever on some of the best efficiency and Kobe not efficient at all in the clutch in playoffs. Since 97 playoffs Lebron BY FAR the most makes from 0-60 seconds to tie or take the lead. Objectively though Lebron in regular season final 0-30 seconds not efficient and Kobe has more makes (though Lebron still much more in final 2-5 mins of clutch games within 5 points). Lebron washes Kobe in defensive win shares and Defensive rating. BDS is a clown. Lebron & MJ on a tier all their own and I’ve seen both live 51/53x in great seats (pacers season tix since 87). You lost me on the Hakeem slander though. Playoff Hakeem averages 29 PPG 86-95 in 114 games. Peak shaq was unstoppable though. I just defend Hakeem bc imho had he played with same teammates/coaches/GMs as Kareem Shaq Duncan Russell he’d have 4-12 titles and they’d all have 0-2 titles in his situation (88-92 rockets for 5yrs of Hakeem prime were a mess. He also averaged 6 stocks in his prime).

Blah blah blah Kobe didn't lose 6 Finals. Kobe didn't lose to Carlos Arroyo, Ginobili and Spanoulis. LeBron is only the GOAT to low standard Dunning-Krugers. Imagine playing the metagame like a sugarbaby 304, tampering, and still losing so badly and getting owned by the West. At least Kobe played in the West. LeBron was going up against DeRozan, PG13 at best. LeBron was in the worst iteration of the East ever. If you think LeBronze is GOAT, you're the clown.

Lebron spent 7 years on a team that gave him nothing and went back to win a ring against the 73-9 warriors. He has won a ring on every team he's been apart of as the best player. How did he quit on his team? Edit: Kobe asked for a trade a few years after 3peating

"Just cuz players played against other players it doesnt mean they know what they are talking about?"...literally the stupidest shit ive heard. If the players dont know who tf does??? Or i guess the opinion of someone taking the game in thru a screen and tabulated statistics is more informed then the guys on the floor sweating and actually playing the game? Im not disagreeing BDS is a whole clown but that take by micheal blackson' nephew near the end was wild stupid. You cant invalidate someone opinion thats based on actual experience.

Nobody is invalidating their experience. The problem is invalidating someone’s opinion just because it’s not in line with those who played. Analysis is not the same as playing, you can be talented at something but not that knowledgeable. There are plenty of former athletes who have bias about players they don’t like, played with, etc. To just take their word for gospel and invalidate others is pure confirmation bias and glazing
