As an Aussie, because this guy is Aussie too, it's also illegal here. The age of consent varies from 16-17 for each state & territory, BUT those only apply for people within a 3 year age range, i.e. a 16y and an 18y, so that kids who met in highschool aren't considered sex offenders under law. A 4 year gap is absolutely not covered under that here. Additionally, stuff like photos are still entirely illegal and considered CP until all parties are +18. As a SA survivor, I find it interesting when abusers or abuse-enablers seem to point out our lack of empathy AFTER we’ve reached a certain point. Personally, I got really angry after I was refused help or justice by local PD, and even angrier when I learned he assaulted his family members and many, many other young women and children. I didn’t lack empathy, but it got harder for me to be empathetic towards others (who were *not* empathetic towards me in the slightest to begin with) when I was kicked when already on the ground. It’s just interesting how they only know of empathy when they can use it for their advantage 🤔

After what happened with that lovely bones writer falsely accusing that man, I don’t think people should be so quick to judge with how little evidence there is. Everyone seems to have a different story of what the messages are between drake and the girl. He could have said worse than he’s claiming or it could be a lot tamer than what the girl said. Since most of the girls claims were false, it does discredit her a bit. And drake also has the other allegations working against him. But it does absolutely matter if drake knew she was 15, to not care about that is to not care about full context. Without knowing what the actual messages say, it’s irresponsible to treat it so black and white

To me, it seems like he is actively trying to condition people into having a particularly forgiving, understanding, and compassionate mindset towards abusers, as they may be acting out of their own traumas. It might be that he is just projecting and attempting to excuse his personal wrongdoings by blaming it entirely on trauma. He would rather see abusers being coddled than being held accountable.

Or if they had been sexting likely there were pictures of her face. A confession and guilty plea is not quite the same. A confession is used as evidence in court. Pleading guilty to a charge is accepting the sentencing for that charge. Someone could plead guilty to certain charges in court to get less/no jail time while they could be actually guilty of more charges or guilty of none. A confession could still be forced, it just depends on the context. I don’t think drake bell is fully innocent, but neither side for or against him is using evidence in their arguments
