This is a great Video for my needs. I had Marantz sr7015 doing all the work for a 7.2.4 setup. I just got a Emotiva a3 amp to power the LCR of my home theater The Marantz AVR will power the side, back, and top layer speakers. Kef Q900 L&R, Q600c center, Marantz will power the side, back surrounds and the 4 top height speakers. I have used the Spatial Audio Calibration Tool kit to set levels and then the timing for each of the speakers. That has made the most improvement of all.

Watched all these videos about amps so got an Emotiva xpa5 for ground and Basx5 for hight and I must say I really haven't noticed much of a difference. @@kixxoff928 If you are using the internal amps inside the Denon, things will tend to heat up quickly. No matter how many external amps you add. If you own the Denon AVR-X6700H or higher model, you can go full preamp mode and shut off all the internal amplification. The Denon will still heat up, just not as much if using the preamp mode. My Denon ran close to +120°F when using all external amps, however, I ordered three cooling fans, 1 for the receiver, 1 for the 4k player and the last for one of the external amps. Just by adding that cooling fan, my Denon went from +120°F average to now 77°F to 80°F on cold temperature days and 80°F to 89°F on the hottest days here in So Cal. You might want to add a cooling fan, I'm using the AC Infinity AIRCOM T10. AC infinity has the different types, some blow the air towards the front like the T10 model, others will blow air to the back, etc. The AC Infinity is able to set the different fan speeds, I usually keep mine around the 2 line mark, it's very quiet.

One thing about the triggers I struggled with at first with my Pioneer 505 hooked up to my Emotiva amp was not knowing I had to enable the trigger for each input on the recivers, like Blu-ray and stream box. I just could not figure out why the amp was not automatically turning on......until I decided to read the manual days later. @@maximrybchenko6578 I can really tell in my tower speakers while watching movies. There’s definitely more clean bass that come from them. It’s not as much as a sub but definitely more than my receiver pushing them. Also, the center speaker sounds more clear as well. The center speaker is mainly for dialog, so there isn’t much more you can get I’m guessing. I’m still learning settings within my receiver and I haven’t ran the diagnostic yet with the microphone. After I complete the complete setup, I think it will sound better. Also, your receiver isn’t pushed as hard when the speakers power loads are taken off of it and put on the amp.

That's what I'm using (actually SR7011). It looks like two mono block amps. I was going to get a MM7025, but the 7055 was only a few hundred more, and allows for more options, not to mention more power supply overhead for stereo. I've read some negative reviews about these amps. A few said Marantz amps sound distorted. Maybe they got a dud. I'm not sure how valid the reviews are. Mine handles Kef R5, and R2C speakers well. I don't hear the fan, and the noise floor is dead quite.

You explained this very well. I'm using an Denon DRA-800H AVR and a Emotiva BasX A2 power amp. Using Preouts on Zone 2 (on AVR no other preouts) into the BasX. One thing I noticed is the sound is flat compared to speakers connected to the AVR (DRA-800H). Is this because the preout cleans up any sound processing that happens within the receiver? If so how can I go about getting that big sound into my power amp? thanks to you or anyone who can help answer my q's.
@TheAioros261176
@TheAioros261176 Жыл бұрын
I believe, since pre-outs are before the amp and perhaps, all the processing, yes the signal will be unchanged from source. One way to find out, connect speakers to your avr, but use pure direct, if the sounds is the same as using pre-outs, then you know the avr is processing the signal.
@utjoseywales
@utjoseywales Жыл бұрын
Just purchased my first external amp (Emotiva XPA-3 Gen 3 from eBay) to go with my Sony STR-DN1080 (which does not include preouts). I purchased 2 Russound ADP-1.2 Speaker-level to Line-level adapters to fix that shortcoming with the intent to power my front soundstage (left, center and right). Since my Sony AVR has a reported 165 watts per channel (2 channels driven) I will use it for my rear surrounds. One cool thing about this Emotiva is that it has expansion slots, so at any point in the future I can add in additional amplification channels if I so desire, perhaps for the rear surrounds if I feel that they're lacking. My system consists of a Sony 85" 4K TV, Polk Reserve series speakers (R700, R400, R200) along with an RSL Speedwoofer 12S. I think this amp will be more than sufficient, my only unknown is whether or not these little Russound adapters will be able to handle the potential power of the Emotiva. We'll see within the next week or so... Great video as always. Never assume that someone knows what you may consider obvious when it comes to audio/home theater....many of us thirst for this type of "basic" tutorial, I assure you of that!

@@ealanosborne I do have a question that, perhaps, many of us new to this hobby wonder. If you're able/willing to respond, that's up to you. All of our A/V devices have settings, all of them, from audio to video. How does one know what's ultimately controlling the sound? It is so frustrating to me when I can change a setting on my AVR, and things sound fine, then I can later change a setting on my Blu-ray while playing an audio CD, and it seems to trump what I had previously set up on my AVR. I mean, what is ultimately controlling what. All of these devices have similar setting and I never know what to do. It's the same with my HDTV......my Blu-ray player has video settings. My AVR has video settings. My HDTV has video settings. What in the hell has the ultimate say in what's being played/displayed? How does on know?
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
@@utjoseywales Typically I let the TV do any video processing, since it’ll most likely be superior to what your AVR can do. So if there is a “pass through” video option on your AVR, make sure to turn it on, so that the TV processes any video signal. I usually have the AVR process all audio, typically set up by telling your Blu-ray player to output “bitstream” audio (or sometimes just called “auto”). If you tell the Blu-ray player to output Multichannel PCM audio, it will be the processed by the Blu-ray player itself. That and if you choose a “Pure” audio option on your AVR, that’s also telling to the AVR to NOT process any audio, but simply pass the audio through to the speakers. I usually do that when I listen to CDs, so that’s it’s just pure CD quality without any added processing by the AVR. The same applies if you have a turntable connected to your AVR and don’t want your AVR to add any audio processing while listening to vinyl records. 🤷‍♂️

Denon becomes really hot if I turn up the volume. But I do not turn the volume too high very often... Anyway, there is a nice 2nd hand Emotiva BASX A5175 (yes, the old one) which I could buy. Seller says its in perfect 10/10 condition.. I think you will notice a difference, since your Q Acoustic speakers can handle up to 4 ohm loads, and the BasX amp in question can output 175 watts per channel into 8 ohms? That’s much more powerful than the replacement A5 amp that Emotiva sells. So your speakers will be able to draw more current from that amp and reproduce some more details in the audio mix that the Denon couldn’t. At least on paper that’s what I think will happen. 😁

I don’t think the “assign” part of it is in the X6500H. I think it is with the 2020 and newer models. That being said, I think the X6500H is just “ready” for a signal to output through a pre out if you plug an RCA digital coax cable into it.

@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
Receivers are great all-in-one components - it’s a video processor/switching device, and audio processor, and powers your speakers as well, with its internal amps. Great for entry level systems and speakers that don’t require lots of power. But once you begin to upgrade your speakers - needing more power to really bring out the true nature of your speakers’ capabilities - you’ll need external amps to power them. A receiver typically powers up to 50 watts, maybe up to 75 watts per channel when ALL channels are outputting audio simultaneously. When you see the power rating online, it’s almost always “2 channels driven,” not “all channels driven,” unfortunately. In my dedicated home theater space, all my speakers can handle a lot of power, so they’re all powered with external amps, allowing for the receiver to only worry about video and audio processing - not powering - which in turn makes the receiver perform better. It’s always best to have separate components doing their own separate duties, but systems like that obviously cost a LOT more, so a receiver is a great compromise for those starting their home theater journeys. 😀🎉

@ealanosborne Ай бұрын
Hi! Honestly, if you're really wanting to use the Dynasty kit with your surrounds, I would bypass the XPA-11 all together since that would be drastically reducing the output of the XPA-11. The Dynasty amps only output 50 watts per channel into a 4 ohm load. That's not a lot of power. Whereas the XPA-11 can output hundreds of watts per channel. Whichever speakers you want to have lots of power going to them, I would connect them to the XPA-11. But if you really want to avoid long speaker wire runs to your surrounds, I would just go from the surround pre outs of your X6700H and connect them directly to the Dynasty kit. But if it was me, I would connect all speakers to the XPA-11 and find creative ways to hide long speaker wire runs.

That's definitely a great way to use your 5000x amp within the system. Amp Assign: 11.1 Floor: 5Ch & SB Height: 4 speakers (I know it's weird, but trust me) PRE: Front Then go back into Speaker Config page, make sure all your speakers are accounted for, but be sure to have the rear heights set to "none," since you only have 2 heights, and need to essentially "trick" the AVR into powering those 5 speakers with the 5000x amp.

Receivers are good all-in-one units that can make any home theater sound great without spending loads of cash. But with audio components in general, it's always been better to have separate components, because they do their job much better on their own. Like back in the 90's, I had an AIWA all-in-one audio system - 3-disc CD changer, dual cassette deck, aux in, and radio. But it would've sounded better and lasted much longer if I had all those components as separate units - preamp, amp, CD player, tape deck, radio - but as a punk teenager with no money, there's no way my parents would've spent that kind of money on separate components. So the AIWA system was a good compromise. Getting a 9 channel receiver would still put you back in the AVR situation, with a component that has so many different tasks to perform simultaneously. Which 7 channel AVR do you currently have? I'm going to guess it might not even support the use of an external amp...

The cables that I used in this video are Aperion Audio RCA patch cables (affiliate link below). They are much better than your standard red and white stereo analog RCA cables because they are better shielded and higher quality for home theater purposes. Red and white stereo RCA cables still work, but there's a chance they might introduce noise or a hum into the signal. But if the Aperion Audio cables are too expensive, just search for "digital coax" cables, which are basically the same, but less expensive. www.aperionaudio.com/products/aperion-audio-rca-audio-stereo-subwoofer-cable-mono-single?ref=xgnDvScPYS9H3

But instead, should I go with maybe a 7-channel amp (200 watts x7) for the base layer and use the receiver just to power the 4-height channels? What would make more sense or be better? Eh, it just depends on how big your front soundstage is. If you have an LCR that can handle lots of watts, and smaller surround/height speakers, going with a single chassis might be advantageous. If you have equally power hungry LCR and surrounds speakers, getting a 7-channel amp might be the way to go. But overall, it’s always best to power all your speakers externally, if possible. Lots of people get a 3-channel amp to power their LCR first, then get more amps later, just to split the cost up over time. 🤘

What’s up man. Love the channel, I’ve learned so much from ya. I had a question about what is more ideal for a 7.2.6 setup when it comes to the pre amps. Am I better off getting one 7 channel pre amp and doing all my bed layer speakers and a second 6 channel pre amp for my atmos speakers? Or should I get a 13 channel amp and run them all there? I think I learned that the more channels, the less power per channel? Just want to make sure what’s exactly ideal. If it is less power per channel, the more channels you have.. would that mean ideally a 3 channel amp (for LCR), a 4 channel amp (surrounds) and a 6 channel amp (for atmos, as they don’t need as much juice) would be the ultimate setup? Tryna figure out how to get the best bang out of my setup. I plan on running Kef in walls, with kef heights, and two kef subs on a Sony str az7000es receiver Thanks for all your help.

Yeah, I guess it depends on your LCR. If you have 3 monster KEF speakers for your LCR that can handle a lot of wattage, and 4 surrounds that aren’t as beefy, I’d maybe go with the 3 + 4 + 6 combo you mentioned. But if you have 7 ear level speakers that are relatively similar in size, go for the 7 + 6 amp combo. I maybe wouldn’t go for a 13 channel amp, since they’re usually really expensive for size and convenience’s sake. The upside of splitting the power duties between 2 or more external amps is that it’s more easily replaceable if one decides to fail. That and I love my 7 + 6 combo because I can easily turn off the ear-level amp and run only heights if I want to test out what’s actually coming out of the heights. 😄🙌

@@ealanosborneSounds like a plan! Thanks so much for the clear answer. My LCR's will be the kef R Series in walls which do push a bit more power than my surrounds which I decided to go with the Q series in walls from Kef. Thanks again for the clarity my dude!

Are we using the power of both amps? You know? Seems like you would wanna add an amp to add power to existing receiver NOT canceling out the receivers amp but adding external amp for added power????
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 10 ай бұрын
No, not really. Most consumer grade speakers don’t need THAT much power. But by essentially turning off the internal amps, it allows the AVR to process audio even better because doing it all - HDMI switching, audio processing, video processing, amplifying speakers - really bogs down it capabilities having to perform all those tasks simultaneously. But an AVR performs much better if it no longer has to worry about amplifying audio signals. 👍

@@ealanosborne My thinking 🤔 was you could combine the 2 units power. I was about to pick up 2 125 watt Marantz mono blocks and I wanted to hook them to L and R fronts in addition to my Yamaha putting out 125 watts also. Combination of 250 watts @ 8ohms. So that's not possible?

@@budzlightyear2212 No, sorry. Once you connect an external amp to the pre out, it reroutes the signal to only go through the pre out, not both.

why not connect the speaker Wires to amplifier ? I dont understand you connect just pre out wires but not speaker??

@@voederbietels Cool. You should be able to use the Aventage 3040 since it has the 7.1 analog input section. And as long as you select "pure" or "direct" music mode on the RZ70, it shouldn't add any additional processing to the signal. 👍

I just don't get the volume control. Does the trigger control just turn on/off the external amp(s)? How do the volume controls match on separate components? When you calibrate do you turn volume control on both amps half way? Quarter way? I plan on getting a processor and THREE amps. If anyone can answer, would appreciate.

It’s just how the software works. The only “assignable” pre outs that you need to worry about are either the Front L/R or Rear Heights. Otherwise, all the other pre outs are ready to accept an RCA cable to then be connected to an external amp, if necessary. 👍
