Very well done. A few inaccuracies, such as Michael “Spock” Anderson was actually VFA-81’s flight leader, not VFA-83’s. Also, Speicher was a Lt.Cmdr at the time of this mission and time period. He was later promoted to Captain years later after this incident as he was still classified as missing in action.

Well I downed the AWACs effectively blinded him. This was in 2008 Barrack Hussein Obama II was going to be the president. Liberal principles of individual choice, female empowerment, and destruction of patriarchy create a society of people who have no family to take care of them in their old age. The liberal feminist solution to this problem is to create more welfare programs. What this means is that they want the elderly to live alone in what are essentially pods, their only human interaction being with "care" takers to check if they're still alive once a week. AWACS create an uneven playing field. Their absence in Vietnam War is why the US lost thousands of aircraft. In Gulf War, they lost only one to enemy aircraft, Scott's F18 because AWACS came in handy.

I heard that there are some un-confirmed reports of MiG-25s shooting down F-15s Even though I have hard time believing it because there is no concrete evidence of it. But the MiG-25 is an aircraft which performed well in the roles that it was designed for! A really amazing Jet! I am from India and we Operated these Aircrafts. We took delivery of 6 MiG-25RBKs and two MiG-25RUs in 1981. All of these were operated by by No. 102 Squadron "Trisonics" based at Bakshi Ka Talab AB in LucknowUttar Pradesh. A really cool 1.

No F-15s were hit in air to air combat in Desert Storm and no F-15 has ever been lost in air to air combat, ever. I have heard one bogus claim that an Israeli F-15 was supposedly shot down by (supposedly) a Mig-25, but that was a while ago, and with no evidence. It seems this claim was dropped. I also stumbled upon an article claiming an F-15 was shot down by a Mig-25 in Desert Storm, but it is this very story of Scott Speicher, claiming he was piloting an F-15 and not an F/A-18, which is obviously a mistake.

@@ali-haider5788 It's very arguable whether the Mig-29 was going to win the dogfight. The F-15s weren't allowed to engage within that distance without visual confirmation, and they ended up in an somewhat awkward situation. But the F-15 that was locked on defended, while the other F-15 took the Mig-29 down. I don't know why the Migs were flying apart. Also I never said the Iraqi Mig-29 pilots weren't good. It's just that they also faced good pilots, who were flying better equipment. Back in the day, during the Israel-Egypt conflicts, Egyptian pilots suffered heavily. The Soviets blamed the Egyptian pilots and once in the early 1970s their own Soviet pilots happened to face those same Israeli pilots, even in Mig-21s which were better than the Egyptian ones. We all know the result.

Two F/A-18s from VFA-81 shot down two Iraqi MiG-21s, one with an AIM-7 Sparrow missile and one with an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile, in a brief dogfight with their bombs still latched on. Maybe do this next since it was VFA-81 F-18's getting those kills.

Incorrect... More than four planes were downed during air combat with Iraqi pilots in the second Gulf War... There is a book titled ( Iraqi Fighter & Arab Migs Volum1) by authors Douglas Deldy and Tom Cooper in which he mentions these clashes in the sixth chapter..

His F18 was hit by a missile overloaded with explosives the missile is called R 40. The missile hit his nose and sent the aircraft from its flight path between fifty and sixty degrees with a resulting 6 g minimum load.

One of the biggest mysteries seems to be whether he actually ejected or not. Did the crash investigators confirm he ejected from the aircraft? It was evidently a big explosion and he may not have survived the impact.

the evidence (from what I read) indicates the missile detonated very near the cockpit. Could have been killed or seriously wounded at that point and passed sometime after ejecting.

@@billfish6244 story I heard here in Jax is that the crash investigators cut the cockpit area off of the wreckage and removed it from the crash site, I *think* the seat was long gone. I do know the canopy was miles from the main wreckage. I thought it odd that they would remove the cockpit...nothing super secret in the -18 especially considering it had been in the desert so long at that point....maybe there was evidence there they wanted to process elsewhere (?)

The United States defeated Iraq in just five weeks. The Iraqis couldn't have been that much more inept. Although the loss of LCdr Speicher was tragic, thankfully the number of American casualties was very low.
