Denny Hulme was always up there . He was a brilliant driver always at the pointy end of the field, the man also had no ego, was a great story teller for those lucky enough to here him when there were no crowds. .Not in the places here but for about 8 years was always up there. Drivers came & went but he stayed near the front until he retired.

The thumnail pictures called dead mans curve for obvious reasons.. I think its the same place where mike hawthorn burnt to death, before the changes was made..

Mike Hawthorn(1929-1959) died in a road accident near Guildford, England in Jan. 1959. His fellow driver at Ferrari, Peter Collins(1931-1958) did crash at the Nürburgring), at Pflanzgarten curve and died from head injuries- not by burning. I do not know of any F1 driver burning to death at the Nürburgring, so who did you have in mind?

Schade das die Strecke heute so zugewachsen ist. Da hatte man noch die Autos weit verfolgen können. Schade.

Organisationally the Stewart-Tyrell season eventually dominated in 1971, the vibration problems facing the Ferrari B3 never being resolved. Ickx like Hailwood never made any attempt to set up his own cars, unlike Peterson who always frustrated the Lotus team in 73-5 and 78 by attempting to set up his cars, offering endless talks and plausible suggestions which rarely proved successful. Because of this Chapman didn't greatly appreciate Peterson and would not to employ Ronnie after 1973, like McLaren inexplicably to many fans Chapman like McLaren, thought Ickx the better driver and preferably driver.

My own view is Ickx definitely won the 1970 World Championship as the Lotus 72 was usually running to totally illegal specs, notably at Brands and Monza, where Ridn't 72 was geared for 205mph with off balance tyres and weight. At Brands Ridnt got past J.Brabham on the finish line by a whisker, but the wing on the 72 was several inches higher than acceptable and pushed down by the crew on way to a second appeal scruitneering inspection, (see Lotus team manager Waugh book). Chapman considered the anti squat anti drive 72 probably quicker if uncomfortable. Put it this way in the first two practices in Brands in 70, J Miles ( no r) got in few slow laps, in the final practice had the usual two laps at racing speedfor a Lotus no 2 and did 1.25.9 cf Ridnts 1.24.7 and the best March cars Peterson 1.25.8, Stewart 1.26.0 and Andretti 1.26.2 (Goodyear) and Amon 1.27.0 and Siffert 1,28.00. The Lotus 49s of Hill, Fittipaldi and lovely were in the 1.28/29. I suspect Ridnt was not in the top 5 in 1970 my own view is the top five in speed and ability would have been Ickx, Stewart, Surtees, Rodriquese, Amon.

Actually, Regazzoni should've been the 1970 WC if not for Rindt. Clay only joined F1 5 races into the season and missed out one more race because Ferrari still hadn't fully committed to him. Although he missed 5 of the 13 total races he came in 3rd in the standings with 33 pts. If you calculate his point average based on the 8 races he did enter and multiple it by 5 (the races he missed) - he would've scored 53.6 points vs. Rindt's 45 and Ickx's 40. Regazzoni had one of the best rookie seasons in F1 history in 1970 (he also was F2 champion that same year).
