I’m a Ford Tech. I see this pretty often. Water is “supposed” to enter the inside of the door. Behind the door panel, you’ll have a protective sheet that has an adhesive material to prevent the water from getting into the inside of your truck. However, you have 2 square openings at the bottom left and right of your door that’s supposed to drain the water out. Sometimes there’s debris at the bottom, preventing proper draining. We usually leave that rubber grommet out (that you addressed) because it’ll keep happening haha.
@justmyperspective74302 ай бұрын
Why is water “supposed” to get in your door? (This isn’t sarcasm. It’s a serious question since you’re a Ford Tech. My Tahoe does the same thing and I’ve always wondered why 🤔)
@jaybrooks62352 ай бұрын
@@justmyperspective7430 Yea, man. So manufacturers know that their vehicles will not create a perfect seal when I comes to water in certain areas (every manufacturer is different from their engineering). To prevent water build up, they add channels and drains for the water to go so it doesn’t build up over time creating overflow into the vehicle. The window glass run allows the window to go up and down within its groove keeping the window aligned. Allowing that movement will definitely let water in. Water will flow past that window glass run and into the interior of the door behind your door panel. On f-150-650s they have a plastic water shield that prevents water from splashing onto the floor boards that ultimately leaks into the vehicle when the doors are closed. Now that you have water sitting in that door panel, the 2 square holes on the left and right corners of each door are “supposed” to drain the water efficiently. Theoretically this works, however, debris, dirt, etc blocks those drain ports. Since the rubber grommet he pulled out is at a higher point that the water built up to, was able to relieve some of that water. I always use this technique and after the water is drained, I use a pick to clean out the square openings. On 1 particular f-150, the engineering tag for the door was stuck in the outer square port.

Your drain holes are clogged. To prevent rust inside your door, spray some transmission fluid inside your door. You will have to take the door apart, clean out the drain holes, make sure it's completely dry before spraying atf in the door. You only need about an inch to soak into the cracks. Make sure you tape over the drain holes so it doesn't run all over. Then remove the tape and drain the atf out after 10 min. Wipe clean and that will prevent rust from the inside out. Or you could do nothing a see what happens.
@chevy383jt2 ай бұрын
It's somewhat normal. Your window seals aren't sealing very well, or one of them is out of place. Some water is expected, especially during heavy storms. There are supposed to be holes that always drain the water that gets inside. I would just leave that rubber plug out unless you plan on driving through deep water soon.

All vehicles have drainplugs in the doors because water will always get in, if for no other reason than moisture on the inside of the windows. In dry climates like the southwest the moisture evaporates easily, but in humid climates it will pool at the bottom of the doors and body panels because it can't evaporate. That's why you see cars rusting in those areas.
