Wow, that's crazy how the CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) changes between the open target and the targeted one! I am running ads right now and my CPM is super high at $4.51, even though I am also targeting some cheaper countries like Brazil and Mexico. Cost per conversion is also high at $0,95. I was wondering how to turn this down and will now experiment with open targeting. Will let you know how it goes!

I spent $26 targeting Tear-1 countries plus Mexico and Argentine, resulted in 3,300 clicks almost all from Mexico and Argentine. In spotify I got only 20 streams from these two countries. On the 4th day I removed Mexico and Argentine from the ad, but I was still getting clicks from Argentine so I decided to delete the ad altogether and forget about the whole damn thing.

you used a Traffic campaign, which doesn't work. You need to use Conversion campaigns.

@Blades of Freedom hit the nail on the head. Traffic ads only work in tier 1 countries. If you’re gonna go outside of that, use conversion ads.

I have noticed my CPR is still pretty high so my question is what do you recommend I do to try to bring that down? Yeah, definitely. I think it’s a better long-term play. I still go to the song in the short-term for new music sometimes, but I always have ads going to my profile.

I typically stay away from that level of financial detail as I'm not a tax professional or financial advisor or anything like that, but I do encourage looking into a business structure, whether sole proprietorship, LLC, or even a corporation, that allows you to deduct expenses like marketing, etc.

Yes, I use engagement for everything. Technically speaking, you can use leads, but I wouldn't say it's the best route to take.

It’s really difficult to silo out that sort of data at this point. I have traffic coming from everywhere and I’ve built in so many listeners and followers on the platform as well. All I know is this system continues to reliably work month over month.

If you're using a conversion campaign, use your landing page URL. If you're going with a traffic campaign, use your Spotify artist profile link.

Hi Tom, can you please help me my business manager is restricted and in my Instagram account, its saying promotions are disabled, account is restricted. I can't run ads so I'm thinking of making a new business manager with my family member's old account with a new facebook page but do I also need to make a new Instagram account. I have even tried talking to customer support but nothing worked.

Hey dude! If going through the support process didn’t work, you may need to start from scratch. Make sure you know why you got restricted in the first place though so you don’t repeat it with the new account on accident.

Every time I have used additional placements, all of my traffic ends up coming from Instagram anyway, so I always end up returning to that.

We can target teens with conversions, we just can use any detailed targeting or do any retargeting with that information. It also depends on the country. Places like Indonesia and Thailand have specific age limitations that other countries don't.

I’ve found that when I add apple music, my cost comes down a bit. Streams still coming in; im gonna be testing retargeting with iTunes soon. Look at it more “what’s the worst that can happen?” Lol

Hey thanks for watching. No, I’m using predominately video ads. Only images in the two placements I mentioned. The results on Spotify have been excellent. ~250 new followers in the past 28 days. All from those 13 countries.

@@BOF303 a long time advertising and pulling good data into my account,. The longer you advertise, the more Facebook learns about what works and what doesn't. A seasoned ad account is priceless.

If you're sending traffic to Spotify with either a traffic or conversion campaign, you should start to see data on Spotify for Artists when things update the next day.

Mostly because the main side effect I’ve wanted from growing on Spotify is to grow on Instagram. I also found early on that most of my audience was in IG over FB anyway. Having said that, I’ll probably test FB placements again soon just to see if that still holds up.

That’s a really good question I’ve been running lately with both FB & IG placements I find my engagement is really high comments, likes, shares etc but I’m not sure if it’s providing me the overall best results because my landing page is showing that 50% of my clicks on Instagram have successfully went through, as opposed too Facebook only 15% although my cpc is at 0.10. I’m not sure if maybe I should turn off FB placements & only use IG. Any suggestions Tom?

Hi Tom - Thanks so much for all of your insightful information. I have a question: We are currently running a Facebook/Instagram ad campaign for our latest single where we are asking people to stream on Spotify. It's a video ad that contains a portion of the music video. We are pushing users to a Toneden smart link first, so that we can let our tracking tools pick up information on the user, then we are sending them over to Spotify to listen. Toneden gives us the option of including a song preview, where the user can hear a portion of the song. Should we use this feature or does this deter them from clicking on that Spotify link to listen? They've already heard at least a couple of seconds of the song in the video ad. This may not even matter, but if our goal is to get them to go to Spotify to listen and hopefully follow, we weren't sure if this could have a detrimental effect.
